Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A moving narrative that offers a rare glimpse into the lives of African American men, women, and children on the cusp of freedom, First Fruits of Freedom chronicles one of the first collective migrations of blacks from the South to the North during and after the Civil War. Janette Thomas Greenwood relates the history of a network forged between Worcester County, Massachusetts, and eastern North Carolina as a result of Worcester regiments taking control of northeastern North Carolina during the war. White soldiers from Worcester, a hotbed of abolitionism, protected refugee slaves, set up schools for them, and led them north at war's end. White patrons and a supportive black community helped many migrants fulfill their aspirations for complete emancipation and facilitated the arrival of additional family members and friends. Migrants established a small black community in Worcester with a distinctive southern flavor. But even in the North, white sympathy did not continue after the Civil War. Despite their many efforts, black Worcesterites were generally disappointed in their hopes for full-fledged citizenship, reflecting the larger national trajectory of Reconstruction and its aftermath.

Book The Coming of the Son of Man

Download or read book The Coming of the Son of Man written by Andrew Perriman and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2012-08-21 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tracing the powerful motif of the coming of the Son of man from Daniel through to Revelation, Andrew Perriman provides thought-provoking ideas about eschatological narrative. What was it like to hear the biblical proclamation of this coming for the first time in a cultural, political, and religious context very different from our own? How did early Christians think about the imminence of the promised day of the Lord? What difference did this message make to how they thought, lived, and spread the gospel message? This book engages the minds of jaded twenty-first-century postmoderns who have heard it all before. By seeing the fulfilment of much of New Testament apocalyptic in events of the first centuries, Perriman proposes that in some important sense we have moved beyond eschatology--into an age of renewed community and mission that is creational in its scope.ÊThe Coming of the Son of ManÊis important reading for those who want to engage in the debate concerning what church is--and will be.

Book excerpt: In this revolutionary book, you will discover solid Biblical truth that demonstrates beyond all doubt that God doesn't cause birth defects- He HEALS them! You will also read firsthand testimonies written by parents from around the world who are seeing God heal their children from diagnoses such as cerebral palsy, autism, and down syndrome. You will read of: Doctors amazed by disappearing defects Children moved to normal classes because they no longer qualify as "special needs" Organs, bones, facial features, and muscles restored to normal function Families restored to joy and peace by the truth of God's grace. If you are looking for hope and practical Biblical answers that will empower you to minister healing to those afflicted with birth defects, then this is the book is for you! This book is not written for the unbeliever, naysayers, and critics. This book is written for the parents who have a child diagnosed with birth defect and know that God offers the hope of healing and need encouragement for their faith. Genetic birth defects such as down syndrome are by medical definition a disease and Jesus heals diseases. This book is a solid reminder to each of us who claim to be followers of Jesus Christ that Jesus is who he said he is. Now He lives inside of those who truly believe in Him to do His same mighty works. This is not just about healing birth defects. It's about rediscovering who you truly are, Christian, now that you've been born again. The Word of God says, "But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him." Jesus said, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I am going to the Father. Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask me anything in my name, I will do it." When the church realizes that she is not without power against birth defects, she will arise out of her subdued apathy. It starts by believing the gospel above your experience and above your circumstances. In addition to solid Biblical teaching, this book is filled with testimonies from parents from around the world with whom were are personally in contact who have discovered these truths and have begun to act on them. Yet they are only a glimpse of the testimonies from parents who are ministering healing to their own children and each other's children diagnosed with birth defects. This book is merely "first fruits," evidence of a much greater harvest that is ripe and still to come. God is raising up a worldwide army that is rallying together for a simple reason- that the Lamb of God receive the reward for which He suffered at the whipping post in the lives of every person, especially those who were born with birth defects. An avalanche of miracles is beginning to rumble through the earth as children diagnosed with down syndrome, autism, cerebral palsy, and other birth defects are being healed before our eyes. We want to give parents and grandparents the book that we wish someone would have given to us the moment our child was born diagnosed with a birth defect. We want the church to wake up and realize that what Jesus' suffering at the whipping post applies to children born with defect. We have written this book to inspire, challenge, and empower you to see your child healed through the power, love, and authority of Jesus Christ. This book represents the first fruits of real, present day experiences of divine healing of birth defects. We offer it as an encouragement to those who are courageous enough to believe that Jesus Christ wants to work through you to free the captives and to liberate those oppressed with birth defects.
