How she deals with her role as a super hero, runs her bakery, falls in love with Bruce Canfield, saves her parent's marriage, and the life of her batty neighbor, Mattie Mc Fee, is the basis for this fast-paced and hilariously funny chick-lit romp through the world of the unimaginable. Marsha, amazingly, does it all while saving herself from freezing to death in a meat locker, loosing dozens of biscotti to Super Chick's fire retardant foam, and capturing Abdullah bin Chad Al-Hijazi, an Afbadistan terrorist, intent on destroying the United States.

Did the army build a 10-mile tunnel right through the middle of town? Did 19th century businessmen use tunnels to secretly patronize the town's brothels? Or, did the local Chinese use tunnels to avoid contact with abusive townsfolk? The curious and talented members of the Deming Writing Group set out to explore these legends and try to sort out the truth. Thirteen writers accepted the challenge and were randomly assigned different literary genres (mystery, horror, screenplay, literary, etc.) to create each one's take on the tunnels. So, do these mystifying tunnels under Deming really exist? Decide for yourself after reading Down Under Deming.

Book Memory and Remembering in Early Irish Literature

Download or read book Memory and Remembering in Early Irish Literature written by Sarah Künzler and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2023-12-04 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ireland possesses an early and exceptionally rich medieval vernacular tradition in which memory plays a key role. What attitudes to remembering and forgetting are expressed in secular early Irish texts? How do the texts conceptualise the past and what does this conceptualisation tell us about the present and future? Who mediates and validates different versions of the past and how is future remembrance guaranteed? This study approaches such questions through close readings of individual texts. It centres on three major aspects of medieval Irish memory culture: places and landscapes, the provision of information about the past by miraculously old eye-witnesses, and the personal, social and cultural impact of forgetting. The discussions shed light on the relationship between memory and forgetting and explore the connections between the past, present and future. This shows the fascinating spatio-temporal identity constructions in medieval Ireland and links the Irish texts to the broader European world. The monograph makes this rich literary sources available to an interdisciplinary audience and is of interest to both a general medievalist audience and those working in Cultural Memory Studies.

Book In Search of the Irish Dreamtime Archaeology and Early Irish Literature

Download or read book In Search of the Irish Dreamtime Archaeology and Early Irish Literature written by J. P. Mallory and published by Thames & Hudson. This book was released on 2016-06-14 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ireland's oldest traditions excavated via archaeological, genetic, and linguistic research, culminating in atruly groundbreaking publication Following his account of Irish origins drawing on archaeology, genetics, and linguistics, J. P. Mallory returns to the subject to investigate what he calls the Irish Dreamtime: the native Irish retelling of their own origins, as related by medieval manuscripts. He explores the historical backbone of this version of the earliest history of Ireland, which places apparently mythological events on a concrete timeline of invasions, colonization, and royal reigns that extends even further back in time than the history of classical Greece. The juxtaposition of traditional Dreamtime tales and scientific facts expands on what we already know about the way of life in Iron Age Ireland. By comparing the world depicted in the earliest Irish literary tradition with the archaeological evidence available on the ground, Mallory explores Ireland’s rich mythological tradition and tests its claims to represent reality.
