Book Separation of Vehicles

Download or read book Separation of Vehicles written by Cambridge Systematics and published by Transportation Research Board. This book was released on 2010 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NCHRP Report 649/NCFRP Report 3: Separation of Vehicles - CMV-Only Lanes presents an extensive compendium of information about CMV-only lanes and examines major issues and concepts that should be understood in developing new applications of CMV-only lane concepts as a potential method for both easing congestion and reducing the number of traffic accidents on highways. Appendices to this report, including an annotated literature review, performance evaluation criteria, benefits monetization factors and unit costs, and net present value calculations for benefit-cost analysis, are available on the TRB website. This report and the supplemental information can be used by public agencies that may be considering CMV-only lane concepts in corridor studies or other planning applications. The report provides data such agencies can use to support their own evaluations of CMV-only lane projects.

Book Strategies for Separating Trucks from Passenger Vehicles

Download or read book Strategies for Separating Trucks from Passenger Vehicles written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research addresses the growing number of trucks in Texas by developing tools for evaluating needs for special truck facilities, developing a truck route system, and developing recommendations for demonstration of a pilot system. Tasks required to accomplish these objectives began with a comprehensive literature review, to include the major corridor studies and an evaluation of special truck facilities implemented outside of Texas. The research then established criteria for each of the three levels of truck treatments, developed a plan to classify truck facilities, and developed an evaluation framework for these facilities. Based on these tasks, the research then investigated techniques for evaluating levels of service on truck facilities. The techniques were then applied to selected candidate corridors to demonstrate their utility. Finally, the research developed an action plan for implementation of the exclusive truck facilities.

Book Case Studies and Annotated Bibliography of Truck Accident Countermeasures on Urban Freeways

Download or read book Case Studies and Annotated Bibliography of Truck Accident Countermeasures on Urban Freeways written by and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To address the growing problem of congestion caused by incidents, especially truck-involved incidents, this study was undertaken to identify truck accident countermeasures which have been used nationwide. Desired conditions surrounding implemented countermeasures in this study included urban freeway volumes of 95,000 vehicles per day or higher, a significant number of trucks in the traffic stream (typically 5% or more), and countermeasures involving road design. The study omitted countermeasures directly related to the vehicle and the driver. This project included the following steps: literature search, telephone survey, and field visits to selected sites. The information collected by this project is intended to assist agencies in identifying, selecting, and implementing truck accident countermeasures. Information was gathered on the following truck accident countermeasures: lane restrictions, separate truck roadways, urban inspection stations, ramp treatments, major incident response and clearance, and truck bans/diversion and time restrictions.

Book Truck Accident Countermeasures on Urban Freeways

Download or read book Truck Accident Countermeasures on Urban Freeways written by Dan R. Middleton and published by . This book was released on 1994 with total page 110 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In addition to fatalities and injuries resulting from truck involved accidents, excessive costs and delays caused by these accidents and incidents have prompted several operating agencies to consider various strategies to reduce the truck accident/incident problem. This study was undertaken to identify truck accident countermeasures implemented in different areas of the U.S. Issues considered when selecting countermeasures for review in this study included urban freeway volumes of 95,000 vehicles per day or higher, a significant number of trucks in the traffic stream (typically 5% or more), and countermeasures involving road design. The study omitted countermeasures directly related to the vehicle and the driver. This project included the following steps: literature search, telephone survey, and field visits to selected sites. The information collected by this project is intended to assist agencies in identifying, selecting, and implementing truck accident countermeasures. Experiences with the following truck accident countermeasures are included in the report: lane restrictions, separate truck facilities, ramp treatments, truck diversions and bans, reduction of shoulder parking, urban truck inspection stations, incident response management, differential speed limit, increased enforcement, tall barriers, and mainlane treatments.
