Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation, Vol. 58: December 1941 Imports of oilseeds and oils were about 10 percent smaller from January through June this year than last. But in the third quarter, as a result of an improved shipping situation in August and September, imports showed a gain of 39 percent over the third-quarter imports a year earlier. Approximately 20 percent of our total requirements for fats in recent months has been met by imports, more than half of which have originated in the Pacific area. Prices of fats and oils were steady to lower in November, but they advanced fairly sharply early in December following the outbreak of war with Japan. On December ceilings were established for wholesale prices of all fats and oils, except butter, at the level of prices prevailing on November 26. Advances in prices for imported items were less pronounced than those for domestic items, and in the case of edible olive oil a slight decline was registered. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation, Vol. 202: May 1960 Output of food fats during april-september, the second half of the 1959-60 season, will decline seasonally but is expected to be about the same as last year. An increase over last year for cottonseed Oil and a slight increase for butter will make up for the decline in lard. Little change is expected in soybean oil production. During the first half of the current marketing year, production of food fats was 9 percent greater than a year earlier. The gain mainly reflected sharp increases in cottonseed Oil and lard. Domestic disappearance of food fats during the first 6 months of the present marketing year was at a record level, and about 1 percent above a year ago. Increases for margarine and shortening slightly more than Offset de clines in butter, direct use of lard and salad and cooking Oils. As usual, domestic use of food fats will decline seasonally during april-september, but probably will not differ much from last year's level. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation, Vol. 178: May 31, 1956 Edible oil prices so far this marketing year have been under strong upward pressure from the record export demand. Prices through the rest of the year will be influenced by just how tight supplies turn out to be. Relatively moderate variations in output, domestic use or exports would mean the difference between a tight or comfortable situation. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation, Vol. 195: March, 1959 Exports and domestic use of food fats and oils are expected to rise to new highs in the 1958-59 marketing year, but the record supply is much greater than probable market outlets, and a sharp increase in carryover on October 1 is likely. Most of the increase will be in soybeans though lard and vegetable oil stocks may be somewhat larger. These prospects indicate that prices of edible oils and lard during april-september 1959 will continue below the same months of 1958. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Fats and Oils Situation: August, 1958 Supplies of edible fats, oils, and oilseeds will set a new record in the 1958-59 marketing year beginning October 1, l958, according to August 1 indica tions. They are expected to exceed the current year's billion pounds (oil equivalent) by about 10 percent. Beginning stocks of food fats (including the oil equivalent of soybean stocks) are likely to be up 20 percent from the pre vicus year's level. Output of lard is expected to increase around 200 million pounds and cottonseed oil about 75 million pounds. Soybean supplies are expected to increase by 66 million bushels-about 10 million due to larger carryover stocks and.56 million larger 1958 output. This is equivalent to about 700 mil lion pounds of soybean oil. Domestic disappearance of food fats per person probably will continue at about the 1957-58 rate. With the population increasing, total use will be up. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
