Set in a moralistic landscape, the play follows the story of families torn apart by a web of lies and deceit. At its core is the character of Father Benedict, a nobleman who seeks to protect his daughter, Eulalia, from the truth about her parentage. In doing so, he weaves a complex web of deception that ultimately leads to tragedy. As the narrative unfolds, themes of honor, duty, and redemption come to the forefront. Characters grapple with the consequences of their actions and struggle to reconcile their past mistakes with their desire for a better future. Through the lens of their experiences, More explores the transformative power of truth and the importance of integrity in the face of adversity.

Book excerpt: "For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciv- iousness (license for sin), and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ." Jude 4 Could there possibly exist a deadly doctrine so widespread in Christendom that those who don't teach it are actually considered by many to be "unorthodox"? Are some so apostate in this late hour that they call this brazen false teaching "orthodox Christianity?" Not only did Christ nor His apostles teach such a doctrine (Lie of the Ages), they actually identified this exact teaching as heretical and warned that those who teach it are "ungodly men...denying the only LORD God, and our LORD Jesus Christ." Could the Holy Spirit have been warning the Church here through Jude of the severe danger of believing the first lie ever told to mankind and the prevalent nature and impending danger of this Lie of the Ages? Would it intrigue you to discover the original lie told by the sworn enemy of all souls whom the Son of God stated is the father of all lies? (John 8:44) Here are some of the questions that will be irrefutably answered with biblical clarity in this landmark volume: Exactly what lie is this Lie of the Ages and what damage has it caused and is it causing? Are millions of people within Christendom being taught this same deadly lie and told it is biblical? Is this lie endangering the eternal souls of those who have embraced it? Are you living the Lie of the Ages? How secure is the born again believer in Christ? Are many of our leaders changing the truth of God into a lie while turning the grace of God into a license to sin? Is the authentic believer unconditionally eternally secure and certain for Heaven, even if he lives in sin and open rebellion after being saved? What does God require of men to be saved from eternal damnation and secure for eternal glory? What did the prophets, Christ, and His apostles say concerning this teaching? Are those who have been born again and are now backslidden promised eternal life (Heaven) even if they do not repent before dying? Can the true disciple possess deep assurance and be safe, sound, & secure in the Savior of Scripture? Discover the answers to these and many more intriguing questions in this bold and enlightening look into one of history's most impassioned controversies.

Book Getting Into the Act

Download or read book Getting Into the Act written by Ellen Donkin and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2005-08-03 with total page 260 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Getting Into the Act is a vigorous and refreshing account of seven female playwrights who, against all odds, enjoyed professional success in the late eighteenth and early nineteenth century. Ellen Donkin relates fascinating, disturbing tales about the male theatre managers to whom they were indebted, and the trials and prejudices they endured, ranging from accusations of plagiarism to sexual harassment. This scarred turbulent early history still resonates in the late twentieth-century. The current ratio of female to male playwrights is virtually unchanged. Old patterns of male control persist, and playwriting continues to be a hazardous occupation for women. But within these scarred earlier histories there are equally powerful narratives of self-revelation, endurance, and professional triumph that may point to a new way forward. Getting Into the Act is entertaining and informative reading for anyone, from scholar to general reader, who is interested in the history and gender politics of the stage.

Book Hannah More The Fatal Falsehood

Download or read book Hannah More The Fatal Falsehood written by Hannah More and published by Stage Door. This book was released on 2017-07-31 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hannah More was born on February 2nd, 1745 at Fishponds in the parish of Stapleton, near Bristol. She was the fourth of five daughters. The City of Bristol, at that time, was a centre for slave-trading and Hannah would, over time, become one of its staunchest critics. She was keen to learn, possessed a sharp intellect and was assiduous in studying. Hannah first wrote in 1762 with The Search after Happiness (by the mid-1780s some 10,000 copies had been sold). In 1767 Hannah became engaged to William Turner. After six years, with no wedding in sight, the engagement was broken off. Turner then bestowed upon her an annual annuity of 200. This was enough to meet her needs and set her free to pursue a literary career. Her first play, The Inflexible Captive, was staged at Bath in 1775. The famous David Garrick himself produced her next play, Percy, in 1777 as well as writing both the Prologue and Epilogue for it. It was a great success when performed at Covent Garden in December of that year. Hannah turned to religious writing with Sacred Dramas in 1782; it rapidly ran through nineteen editions. These and the poems Bas-Bleu and Florio (1786) mark her gradual transition to a more serious and considered view of life. Hannah contributed much to the newly-founded Abolition Society including, in February 1788, her publication of Slavery, a Poem recognised as one of the most important of the abolition period. Her work now became more evangelical. In the 1790s she wrote several Cheap Repository Tracts which covered moral, religious and political topics and were both for sale or distributed to literate poor people. The most famous is, perhaps, The Shepherd of Salisbury Plain, describing a family of incredible frugality and contentment. Two million copies of these were circulated, in one year. In 1789, she purchased a small house at Cowslip Green in Somerset. She was instrumental in setting up twelve schools in the area by 1800. She continued to oppose slavery throughout her life, but at the time of the Abolition Bill of 1807, her health did not permit her to take as active a role in the movement as she had done in the late 1780s, although she maintained a correspondence with Wilberforce and others. In July 1833, the Bill to abolish slavery throughout the British Empire passed in the House of Commons, followed by the House of Lords on August 1st. Hannah More died on September 7th, 1833.
