This book was released on 2017-11-09 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Outlook for 1939 The total supply of all feedstuffs will again be large for the winter and spring feeding seasons as a result of a good growing season and a large supply of grain and hay carried over from last year. The hay supply is the largest since 1927. The probability is that this ample supply of feed will result in further expansion in livestock production in 1939. The number of hogs, especially, is on the mercase. Sheep numbers also are increasing. On the other hand, the tendency is to hold back cows and heifers to build up bi ceding herds, and there probably will be a smaller total slaughter of cattle and calves in 1939 than in 1938. The dairy industry apparently is beginning to expand again. The decline in number of milk cows which started in 1934 has been checked and the number of heifers now on hand indicates an increase in milk herds next year and still more in 1940. The poultry industry also is expanding. The number of laying hens in 1939 is expected to be about 10 percent larger than during 1938, and with a favorable feed situation, egg production also will be heavier. The number of horses and mules has been declining until there are only about half as many on farms as there were in 1915. The decline probably will go on for several more years. Prices, however, have dropped somewhat this past year and colts raised to be sold 2 or 3 years hence are likely to meet a still less favorable price situation. Book The Farm Income Situation Vol 4

Download or read book The Farm Income Situation Vol 4 written by U. S. Bureau Of Agricultural Economics and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-03-20 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation, Vol. 4: May 23, 1940 The recent sharp declines in prices of grains and cotter are not likely to seriously effect the level of farm income in M y, since marketings of these products in May are relatively small. It is probable that income from straw berries and truck crops will continue to increase more than seasonally. Market prices of meat animals were about the same in mid mav as in mid-april, but uh less the heavy movement of cattle continues income av decline slightly from the relatively high devel reached in April. It seems likely, therefore, that the change in income from April to May will not differ greatly from the usual slight increase which normally occurs between these 2 months. Government pay ments in May are expected to be smaller than in April and to continue low until payments of the 1940 soil-conservation and price-parity programs get under way in volume in the last half of the year. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation: August 1940 The seasonally adjusted index of income from farm marketings increased from percent of the 1924-29 average in June to percent in July. In July last year the index of income from farm marketings was percent of the 1924 - 29 average, the low point for the year. Although the movement of wheat in July was less than that of a year ago, the increase from June to July was mch greater than usual, and helped to offset the greater-than-usual seasonal de cline in income from most other grains. Income from fruits declined much more than usual from June to July because of the later movement of the fruit crop this year. Income from all classes of livestock and livestock products in creased more than seasonally, With income from meat animals showing the great est increase after seasonal adjustment. Book The Outlook for Farm Family Living in 1939 Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Outlook for Farm Family Living in 1939 Classic Reprint written by United States Department Of Agriculture and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-09-18 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Outlook for Farm Family Living in 1939 For the country as a whole, net cash income available to farm families for living expenses and getting ahead financially may be somewhat higher in 1939 than in 1938. Net income from farm marketings is expected to be higher in 1939; gross receipts should increase, following an anticipated increase in demand for farm products, and production expenses are expected to remain at approximately 1938 levels. Income from Government payments, including price adjustments to 000pera tors with the 1939 program, probably will exceed the 1938 payments. The income that farm families receive from nonfarm sources may be a little higher in 1939, with improving business conditions. Altogether then, it is probable that the total net money income of farm families from marketings, Government payments, and nonfarm sources will be somewhat larger in 1939 than in 1938. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Farm Income Situation: February 28, 1940 Income from.fruits in January was lower than a year earlier, with sharp declines in income from.app1es and strawberries more than offsetting the in crease in income from.citrus fruits. Marketings of apples in January were about the same as a year earlier, but prices were sharply lower. Cold weather in the early strawberry-producing States has retarded the'growth of the crop, and only a negligible amount of strawberries was marketed in January. Citrus fruit prices in January were higher than a year earlier, and marketings in January were not reducfd materially by the freeze in the citrus areas of Florida and Texas.
