Download or read book The Family Tree The Night of the Storm written by Laurie Copmann and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-03-16 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many years ago, strong hands planted a tiny tree into the ground. Throughout the years, the tree grew and grew and became a wondrous sight. Its many branches offered shade in the summer and provided a home to birds and shelter to animals. It became known as the family tree with its branches representing each person in the family. One night a strong wind tore a branch from the family tree. The loving hands that planted the tree helped ease the feeling of loss by coming up with a creative plan for the broken branch. A picture book for all ages, The Family Tree shares an inspiring promise of hope in the aftermath of a storm.

Book Last Night When I Was Young

Download or read book Last Night When I Was Young written by Geoffrey Littlefield and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2021-11-18 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Last Night When I Was Young saw me riding thoroughbred racehorses as if I were Doug Smith and Fred Winter. In the same vein, I played football as Jimmy Greaves did for Chelsea and I was a Test Match batsman emulating the great PBH May. I hit the biggest serve as Mike Sangster in the Davis Cup, as well as bobbing and weaving in the boxing ring exactly like my favourite Dick Tiger, the world middleweight champion. I was unstoppable behind the wheel of a racing car as Britain's first world champion Mike Hawthorn but on the speedway track I rode with stylish aplomb interpreting my hero, Ronnie "Mirac" Moore. Swinging a mashie niblick as Peter Alliss was no handicap. Rugby Union at Twickenham when my body swerve was very sharp - Richard Sharp. When the Olympics came around, I ran the race of my life both over long distances and over one lap hurdles respectively as Gordon Pirie and the great David Hemery. With eyes open, I loved watching the upright Dorothy Hyman dip and throw herself over the line whilst I fell in love with Mary Rand hitch-kicking her way into Olympic history. Fantasy is then mixed with fact. The jockeys' journeys from completing exacting apprenticeships to becoming champions on the Flat and the National Hunt. Smith riding two-year-olds on the edge in the One Thousand Guineas and the Two Thousand Guineas. Whereas Winter was jumping off the edge of the world in The Grand National. The trials and tribulations with the relative success of the 1960's Chelsea football team from Drake's ducklings morphing into Docherty's uncut diamonds. A fourteen-year-old boy from New Zealand leaves home to become the first speedway superstar. The fight of the week from the USA brings us a Nigerian boxer who confounds convention and fights his way to the top of two weight divisions. A classical English batsman, an amateur as such who set records as a captain and whose impact on Test cricket is second to one. Birdies and bogeys abound, yet our golfing hero is a true British legend. 152 miles per hour as a world record was a cannonball service that belonged to a British no.1 tennis star that left us far too early. The first British world motor racing champion whose play-boy antics on and off the track caused his untimely death. A brief yet scintillating career as England's fly-half sees a jaw-dropping piece of rugby played over and over - sixty years later. The hackles on the neck rise again through an Olympic television commentary that almost matches the magnitude of the performance and the world record that was set. All are sporting yesterday's, worthy of repeat, a young boy's memory listing every feat.

Book IN SEARCH

    Book Details:
  • Author : Daniel Shindler
  • Publisher : Grosvenor House Publishing
  • Release : 2020-05-28
  • ISBN : 1839751088
  • Pages : 412 pages

Download or read book IN SEARCH written by Daniel Shindler and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2020-05-28 with total page 412 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Teachers want more. Daniel Shindler's In Search: Reimagining What it Means to be a Teacher, is an optimistic, necessary book that invites us to identify our core values as teachers, school leaders, and policy-makers. With those values, we journey with him through a series of fundamental requisites that we can apply and nurture in our lives and places of work. Using his teaching experiences, practical examples, and storytelling, Daniel illustrates the requisites we should strive for - honing our expertise, creating powerful and memorable teaching experiences, enquiring with honesty about ourselves and those we teach, building meaningful one-to-one conversations, fostering curiosity and resilience, and building a wider school culture of community and pastoral care. By asking the biggest questions of what it means to be an educator and not seeking simple answers, the book is saying here is what is possible. For Daniel, teaching is alchemy and craft that goes beyond career, intertwining our personal and professional lives. Only a holistic approach will do, if we are to create longevity, which is why Daniel is asking us to reimagine what it means to be a teacher by placing it in the intersection of the private and public self. Why else teach, if not to live? How many of us live in our careers but not our craft? In short, it speaks to the complexity of the human condition of teaching. Our journey is enhanced by Daniel's extensive experience as a teacher of drama, wellbeing and project–based learning within inner cities and internationally, and as lead architect of School21's ground-breaking oracy curriculum. The book includes a compelling foreword by Jeffrey Boakye, teacher and bestselling author of Black, Listed and Hold Tight. In a world of constant change and shifting priorities, never has the search for craft and meaning been more necessary. 'Teaching is a search. It's the effort to walk towards, not forward, or upwards, but inwards towards the self and outwards towards others, at the same time. We've all got a search in us and trust me, In Searchis 100% a jumping off point for your own journey, whatever that may be.' Jeffrey Boakye – Bestselling author of Black, Listed and Hold Tight I loved its scope, the depth of thinking, the range of references, the way public and private, school and life, cross over. It got me thinking differently about things. It's also the perfect antidote to all the books around that reduce teaching to chunks, or a series of moves and techniques. Peter Hyman, Co-Director of Big Education, Co-founder of School 21

Book Banned History

    Book Details:
  • Author : Lynsey Calver
  • Publisher : Grosvenor House Publishing
  • Release : 2022-08-11
  • ISBN : 1803812117
  • Pages : 351 pages

Download or read book Banned History written by Lynsey Calver and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2022-08-11 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Banned History is all the juicy bits of History which were excluded from your lessons at school. It unashamedly probes into the darker side of some of Britain's most admired leaders, as well as exploring the hateful and depraved nature of humanity across the last 5000 years. Banned History answers questions which are deliberately avoided by the school curriculum due to the negative light Britain may be portrayed such as the real reason why Britain didn't bomb Auschwitz and how the Transatlantic Slave Trade came into being. Topical issues such as whether Churchill was a racist and how homophobia developed and spread across the world are explored in depth. Concepts which are too horrific to ever feature in the school curriculum are investigated to reveal how many years it takes for incest to wipe out a family; what the most effective method of torture is; and what kind of person tastes best. Written in a bright and breezy tone, Banned History is full of fascinating facts such as who discovered dolphins (and who fell in love with one); why America got involved in the Vietnam war; why Russia turned communist; how Martin Luther King got his name; how many people Europe killed with their colonisation of the Americas; and when and why the British government legalised men hitting their wives. Welcome to the sort of History you definitely didn't get taught at school.

Book Guinea A Minute

Download or read book Guinea A Minute written by Godfrey Bloom and published by Grosvenor House Publishing. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 196 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Supposedly controversial politician Godfrey Bloom has created an autobiography in a whimsical style with some homespun and sometimes trenchant views. It will come as no surprise that it is not politically correct. What might be a surprise is it is full of common sense, a commodity so sadly lacking in most modern day politicians. Born in 1949 it covers a fascinating post war period from rationing to obesity. Like most Brits of a certain age he does not think we are happier than we were and explains perhaps why. The Guardian did not offer to serialize the book notwithstanding that noble paper's extraordinary help with his political career.
