In Priest, Prophet, King, you'll discover Jesus as the Anointed One - the ultimate priest, prophet, and king foreshadowed throughout the Hebrew Scriptures. Using biblical insights and engaging stories, Father Barron affirms that we see Jesus most clearly through the lens of the Old Testament. Book Restoring the First century Church in the Twenty first Century

Download or read book Restoring the First century Church in the Twenty first Century written by Warren Lewis and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2005-10-15 with total page 629 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Restoring the First-century Church in the Twenty-first Century: Essays on the Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement in Honor of Don Haymes' is a snap-shot of a major American religious movement just after the turn of the millennium. When the ÒDisciplesÓ of Alexander Campbell and the ÒChristiansÓ of Barton Warren Stone joined forces early in the 19th century, the first indigenous ecumenical movement in the United States came into being. Two hundred years later, this American experiment in biblical primitivism has resulted in three, possibly four, large segments. Best known is the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), active wherever ecumenical Christians gather. The denomination is typically theologically open, having been reshaped by theological Liberalism and the Social Gospel in the twentieth century, and has been re-organized on the model of other Protestant bodies. The largest group, the Churches of Christ, easily distinguished by their insistence on 'a cappella' music (singing only), is theologically conservative, now tending towards the evangelical, and congregationally autonomous, though with a denominational sense of brotherhood. The Christian Churches/Churches of Christ (Independent) are a 'via media' between the two other bodies: theologically conservative and evangelical, congregationally autonomous, pastorally oriented, and comfortable with instrumental music. The fourth numerically significant group, the churches of Christ (Anti-Institutional), is a conservative reaction to the 'a cappella' churches, much in the way that the Southern ''a capella' churches reacted against the emerging intellectual culture and social location, instrumental music and institutional centrism of the Northern Disciples following the Civil War. Besides these four, numerous smaller fragments, typically one-article splinter groups, decorate the history of the Restoration Movement: One-Cup brethren, Premillennialists, No-Sunday-School congregations, No-Located-Preacher churches, and others. This movement to unite Christians on the basis of faith and immersion in Jesus Christ, and to restore New-Testament Christianity, is too little recognized on the American religious landscape, and it has been too little studied by the academic community. This volume is focused primarily on the 'a cappella' churches and their interests, but implications for the entire Stone-Campbell Restoration Movement abound. The voices that speak freely within were unimpeded in authoring these essays by standards of orthodoxy imposed from without. All of the contributors are acquainted with Don Haymes, the honoree of the volume, and have been inspired by this friend and colleague, a man with a rigorous and earthy intellect and a heavenly spirit. David Bundy, series editor Studies in the History and Culture of World Christianities

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • From one of the world’s most influential spiritual thinkers, a long-awaited book exploring what it means that Jesus was called “Christ,” and how this forgotten truth can restore hope and meaning to our lives. “Anyone who strives to put their faith into action will find encouragement and inspiration in the pages of this book.”—Melinda Gates In his decades as a globally recognized teacher, Richard Rohr has helped millions realize what is at stake in matters of faith and spirituality. Yet Rohr has never written on the most perennially talked about topic in Christianity: Jesus. Most know who Jesus was, but who was Christ? Is the word simply Jesus’s last name? Too often, Rohr writes, our understandings have been limited by culture, religious debate, and the human tendency to put ourselves at the center. Drawing on scripture, history, and spiritual practice, Rohr articulates a transformative view of Jesus Christ as a portrait of God’s constant, unfolding work in the world. “God loves things by becoming them,” he writes, and Jesus’s life was meant to declare that humanity has never been separate from God—except by its own negative choice. When we recover this fundamental truth, faith becomes less about proving Jesus was God, and more about learning to recognize the Creator’s presence all around us, and in everyone we meet. Thought-provoking, practical, and full of deep hope and vision, The Universal Christ is a landmark book from one of our most beloved spiritual writers, and an invitation to contemplate how God liberates and loves all that is.

Book Fundamental Theology

    Book Details:
  • Author : Gerald O'Collins
  • Publisher : Wipf and Stock Publishers
  • Release : 2001-06-26
  • ISBN : 1579106765
  • Pages : 289 pages

Download or read book Fundamental Theology written by Gerald O'Collins and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2001-06-26 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an updated investigation of the central themes of fundamental theology: revelation, hermeneutics, faith and its formulations, and the role of authoritative teaching in the Church. In a clear and balanced manner, Gerald O'Collins sums up the best of Roman Catholic teaching since Vatican II. Students and others who are reflecting on the nature of their Christian belief will find this book invaluable. The unique quality of this work, however, is its foundation in human experience. Before he probes the theological issues, O'Collins lays down a groundwork for understanding experience. It is not an attempt to turn fundamental theology into a subjective science, but it is a recognition that the reality of God always intersects with self-conscious human beings. While it does not touch all of the themes of fundamental theology, the book does provide in-depth treatment of revelation, tradition, and inspiration.

Book The Kingship of Christ and the Conversion of the Jewish Nation

Download or read book The Kingship of Christ and the Conversion of the Jewish Nation written by Fr Denis Fahey and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2016-06-23 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this work, Fr. Fahey explains the rights of Christ the King versus organized naturalism which is counter to Christ's rights. Christians are not only called to be holy and spiritual, but also to transform society according to the rules of God so that Christ reigns not only in heaven, but also in everyday society. Fr. Fahey speaks of the role of the Jews against this rule of Christ the King, explains their role in ancient and modern society, and their conversion to Christ the Messias. Modern society is grossly disordered, as any thinking man will readily acknowledge, and it can only be reconstituted by reestablishing the rule of Christ, and His Church, over all parts of society, from the top down. Though written in 1953 it remains timely because the subject matter remains pertinent to our day and age. Father Fahey is the expert on the rights of Christ in society, and a good place to begin to understand what has happened to our society, why, and the solution.
