Book Bleaker House

Download or read book Bleaker House written by Nell Stevens and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2017-03-14 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: When she was twenty-seven, Nell Stevens—a lifelong aspiring novelist—won an all-expenses-paid fellowship to go anywhere in the world to write. Would she choose a glittering metropolis, a romantic village, an exotic paradise? Not exactly. Nell picked Bleaker Island, a snowy, windswept pile of rock in the Falklands. Other than sheep, penguins, paranoia, and the weather, there aren’t many distractions, but as Nell soon discovers, total isolation and 1,085 calories a day are far from ideal conditions for literary production. With deft humor, this memoir traces her island days and slowly reveals the life and people she has left behind in pursuit of her writing. It seems that there is nowhere she can run—an island or the pages of her notebook—to escape the big questions of love, art, and, ambition.

Book Joint Development of Hydrocarbon Deposits in the Law of the Sea

Download or read book Joint Development of Hydrocarbon Deposits in the Law of the Sea written by Vasco Becker-Weinberg and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-08-05 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines the concept and purpose of joint development agreements of offshore hydrocarbon deposits from the perspective of public international law and the law of the sea, taking into consideration and extensively reviewing State practice concerning seabed activities in disputed maritime areas and when hydrocarbon deposits extend across maritime boundaries. It distinguishes between agreements signed before and after the delimitation of maritime boundaries and analyzes the relevance of natural resources or unitization clauses included in maritime delimitation agreements. It also takes into consideration the relation between these resources and maritime delimitation and analyzes all the relevant international jurisprudence. Another innovative aspect of this book is that it examines the possibility of joint development of resources that lay between the continental shelf and the Area, considering both theoretical and practical problems. As such, the book is a useful tool for scholars and experts on public international law and the law of the sea, but also for national authorities and practitioners of international disputes resolution, as well as public and private entities working in the oil and gas industry.

Book International Organizations and the Law of the Sea 1995

Download or read book International Organizations and the Law of the Sea 1995 written by Netherlands Institute for the Law of the Sea (NILOS) and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-12-21 with total page 1045 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 16 November 1994, the 1992 U.N. Law of the Sea Convention took effect. Progress is now evident in the implementation of Chapter 17 of Agenda 21, as reviewed by the 1997 UNGA Special Session. These developments and the establishment of the International Seabed Authority (ISBA) and the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea (ITLOS) make the continuation of the NILOS Documentary Yearbook, now in its 11th year, of particular significance in the years to come. The Yearbook compiles the documents related to ocean affairs and the law of the sea issued each year by organizations, organs, and bodies of the United Nations system. These include documents of the U.N. General Assembly, ECOSOC and its regional Commissions, the U.N. Secretary-General's Informal Consultations, PrepCom ISA/ITLOS, UNCED, UNEP and UNCTAD; followed by the documents of specialized agencies and other autonomous organizations of the U.N. system, including FAO, IAEA, ILO, IMO, UNESCO/IOC and WMO. The Yearbook reproduces in full documents issued in the course of the most recent year and lists other relevant documents. The NILOS Documentary Yearbook has proved of invaluable assistance in facilitating access by the community of scholars and practitioners in ocean affairs and the law of the sea to essential documentation.

Book The Maritime Political Boundaries of the World

Download or read book The Maritime Political Boundaries of the World written by Victor Prescott and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 680 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses the often vexed question of national maritime claims and the delimitation of international maritime boundaries. The number of undelimited international maritime boundaries is much larger than the number of agreed lines. The two boundaries that define the marine domain of coastal states are examined. First, the baselines along the coast may consist of low-water lines or straight lines or a combination of both. When straight lines are used they define the seaward limit of the state's internal waters. Second, the outer limits of claims to territorial seas, contiguous zones and exclusive economic zones are measured from the baselines. All states will have to delimit at least one international boundary with a neighbouring state, whether adjacent or opposite. In confined seas no state can claim the full entitlement and must negotiate international boundaries with all neighbours. Many states bordering oceans can claim the full entitlement seawards, although they will need to delimit national boundaries with adjacent neighbours.

Book Maritime Delimitation and Interim Arrangements in North East Asia

Download or read book Maritime Delimitation and Interim Arrangements in North East Asia written by Sun Pyo Kim and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2004-02-01 with total page 406 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work will be a useful guide for those who look for rules and practice on the relations between neighboring States in the absence of maritime boundaries. The main question the author is trying to tackle is how to handle the relations between neighboring coastal States when there is no maritime boundary in place. This book attempts to clarify the legal issues of exploitation of oil, gas and fisheries resources, and jurisdictional conflicts with regard to marine scientific research and protection of the marine environment in disputed areas. This book shows numerous instances of provisional arrangements in disputed areas around the globe together with as many as forty-five valuable maps. The author, a scholar and diplomat of Korea, gives an up-to-date and in-depth analysis of the complicated legal issues of maritime delimitation and provisional arrangements in North East Asia. The English texts of the provisional arrangements in the region annexed to the book are also valuable materials.

The increasing interest in work in oceanography and marine biology and its relevance to global environmental issues, especially global climate change and its impacts, creates a demand for authoritative refereed reviews summarising and synthesising the results of both historical and recent research. For more than 50 years, OMBAR has been an essential reference for researchers, students and workers in all fields of marine science. An international Editorial Board ensures global relevance and expert peer review, with editors from Australia, Hong Kong, Ireland, Singapore, and the UK. The series of volumes can be found in the libraries of institutes and universities worldwide.
