Book Explosive Shocks in Air

Download or read book Explosive Shocks in Air written by Gilbert F. Kinney and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 281 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A purpose of science is to organize diversified factual knowledge into a coherent body of information, and to present this from the simplest possible viewpoint. This is a formidable task where our knowledge is incomplete, as it is with explosions. Here one runs the risk of oversimplification, naivete, and incom pleteness. Nevertheless a purpose of this work is to present as simply as possible a general description of the basic nature of explosions. This treatise should be of interest to all who are working with explosives such as used in construction or in demolition work, in mining operations, or in military applications. It should also be of interest to those concemed with disasters such as explosions or earthquakes, to those involved in civil defense precautions, and to those concemed with defense against terrorists. That is, this material should be of interest to all who wish to utilize, or to avoid, the effects of explosions as weil as to those whose interest is primarily scientific in nature.

Download or read book Space Clinical Medicine written by D.E. Busby and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many real and potential hazards will face astronauts* during operations in space. Some of these hazards might be of little medical significance; others might produce serious medical problems. This book is an initial attempt to describe the characteristics and suggest the management of possible medical problems which might arise from hazards of space operations. Attention is not given here to the so-called 'naturally occurring' diseases. Writing is oriented to future interplanetary missions during which, due primarily to the time required to return to earth, the diagnosis and definitive or interim treatment of medical problems will have to be carried out in space. It is therefore assumed that suitable diagnostic and treatment facilities and medically trained personnel will be available on advanced spacecraft, in which large, multidisciplined crews will be living in a comfortable, 'shirt-sleeves' environment. To lay the groundwork of Space Clinical Medicine, a field in which very little has been written and essentially no experience gained to date, it was found necessary to consider clinical manifestations, diagnosis, and treatment of possible medical problems in space. Wherever necessary, various hazards of space operations are defined and analysed in order to determine their possible medical effects. The patho physiologic characteristics of medical problems are discussed, frequently in detail, to provide the rationale for their prevention and treatment.

Book AIR CRASH INVESTIGATIONS SHOT DOWN OVER UKRAINE The Crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17

Download or read book AIR CRASH INVESTIGATIONS SHOT DOWN OVER UKRAINE The Crash of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 written by Dirk Jan Barreveld, editor and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-08-23 with total page 346 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: On 17 July 2014, at 13.20 a Boeing 777-200 with the Malaysia Airlines nationality and registration mark 9M-MRD disappeared to the west of the TAMAK air navigation waypoint in Ukraine. The aeroplane impacted the ground in the eastern part of Ukraine, near the villages of Hrabove, Rozsypne and Petropavlivka. All 298 persons on board lost their lives. The in-flight disintegration of the aeroplane near the Ukrainian/ Russian border was the result of the detonation of a warhead. The weapon used was a 9N314M-model warhead carried on the 9M38-series of missiles, as installed on the Buk surface-to-air missile system. But was MH17 really hit by a 9N314M model war head mounted on a 9M38 series missile? Careful examination of the available facts show that the conclusion of the Dutch Safety Board (DSB) are questionable to say the least. The report is a mixture of an air crash investigation and a criminal investigation.
