It has been a training support to numerous researchers as well as practitioners, such as teachers, health workers, personal or sport trainers. Since then, it has constantly been republished and a glossary has been added in 1998. This version is the first complete edition of the book in English. The main idea of this new interview technique is to help a teacher, a supervisor or a researcher to guide the student, the practitioner or the subject to give a fine retrospective description of an action. As it is only the subject that has access to this mental or physical action, the goal is to help the subject with the verbalization, putting the implicit knowledge of this action in words. Yet, to achieve this verbalization, we need guidance, because we don't know how to give such a description ourselves. If we leave the interviewee without guidance, he risks remaining in the implicit, speaking in a general way, or in an incomplete or imprecise way, commenting instead of describing. The explicit and precise description we aim is the opposite of the implicit, meaning a fine, detailed and complete way of putting the action in words. The final aim is to elucidate what the subject did to seek his goal

The spirit of this book is pragmatic and relies on a Husserlian phenomenology primarily understood as a method of exploring our experience. The authors do not aim at a neo-Kantian a priori 'new theory' of experience but instead they describe a concrete activity: how we examine what we live through, how we become aware of our own mental life. The range of experiences of which we can become aware is vast: all the normal dimensions of human life (perception, motion, memory, imagination, speech, everyday social interactions), cognitive events that can be precisely defined as tasks in laboratory experiments (e.g., a protocol for visual attention), but also manifestations of mental life more fraught with meaning (dreaming, intense emotions, social tensions, altered states of consciousness). The central assertion in this work is that this immanent ability is habitually ignored or at best practiced unsystematically, that is to say, blindly. Exploring human experience amounts to developing and cultivating this basic ability through specific training. The model is based on an integration of three classic taxonomies of translation procedures proposed by influential translation scholars, namely Vinay and Darbelnet (1995), Newmark (1988), and Dickins, Hervey and Higgins (2002/2016). The book combines these three taxonomies into an integrated model and extends it, effectively, to identify patterns of translation procedures and overall strategies in English-Kurdish translation of journalistic texts. The book is a breakthrough in the field of journalistic translation between the two languages. With a clear definition and exemplification of each translation procedure, the importance of the model is that it is replicable for future descriptive translation studies and can be carried out in other language pairs and on other genres. Moreover, the model is comprehensive in nature, and covers almost all translational changes and shifts that may occur in the translation process. Thus, this model of translation procedures transcends previous frameworks in such a way that prospective translation researchers will not need to go back to these older models of translation procedures.

This renaissance has primarily been stimulated by developments in PET, fMRI and other brain-scanning technology that enable scientists to pinpoint the neural correlates of conscious experience with ever-increasing accuracy. However, the study of conscious experience itself has not kept pace with these advances in third-person methodologies. If anything, the standard approaches to examining the 'view from within' involve little more than cataloging its readily accessible components. Thus the study of lived subjective experience is still at the level of Aristotelian science. This has led many to deny that there could possibly be such a thing as a truly scientific study of conscious experience, or at least to ask: can one be objective about the subjective? Drawing on a wide range of approaches -- from phenomenology to meditation -- THE VIEW FROM WITHIN examines the possibility of a disciplined approach to the study of subjective states. The focus is on the practical issues involved.
