Download or read book The Examination of Mines and Prospects written by C. Guther and published by CreateSpace. This book was released on 2015-01-09 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mining historian Kerby Jackson introduces us to a classic mining publication on the evaluation and examination of mines and prospects by C.G. Guthrie. First published in 1912, it has been unavailable for over a century and sheds important light on how to examine and evaluate hardrock mines, prospects and lode mining claims. Sections include Mining Examinations, Structural Geology, Structural Features of Ore Deposits, Primary Ores and their Distribution, Types of Primary Ore Deposits, Primary Ore Shoots, The Primary Alteration of Wall Rocks, Alterations by Surface Agencies, Residual Ores and their Distribution, Secondary Ores and Ore Shoots and Vein Outcrops. This hard to find information is a must for those who are interested in owning a mine or who already own a lode mining claim and wish to succeed at quartz mining. Download or read book Assessment Restoration and Reclamation of Mining Influenced Soils written by Jaume Bech and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2017-09-09 with total page 522 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assessment, Restoration and Reclamation of Mining Influenced Soils covers processes operating in the environment as a result of mining activity, including the whole spectra of negative effects of anthropopressure and the environment, from changes in soil chemistry, changes in soil physical properties, geomechanical disturbances, and mine water discharges. Mining activity and its waste are an environmental concern. Knowledge of the fate of potentially harmful elements and their effect on plants and the food chain, and ultimately on human health, is still being understood. Therefore, there is a need for better knowledge on the origin, distribution, and management of mine waste on a global level. This book provides information on hazard assessment and remediation of the disturbed environment, including stabilization of contaminated soils and phytoremediation, and will help scientists and public authorities formulate answers to the daily challenges related to the restoration of contaminated land. - Provides a thorough overview of the processes operating on mining-devastated areas, as well as origin, distribution, and deactivation of harmful elements - Includes outcomes and recommendations of the Global Mining Initiative that are widely regarded as the code of conduct in the minerals industry - Contains global case studies that elucidate various aspects of assessment and restoration of mine-contaminated land

Download or read book Shifting Livelihoods written by Daniel Tubb and published by University of Washington Press. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People employ various methods to extract gold in the rainforests of the Chocó, in northwest Colombia: Rural Afro-Colombian artisanal miners work hillsides with hand tools or dredge mud from river bottoms. Migrant miners level the landscape with excavators, then trap gold with mercury. Canadian mining companies prospect for open-pit mega-mines. Drug traffickers launder cocaine profits by smuggling gold into Colombia and claiming it came from fictitious small-scale mines. Through an ethnography of gold that examines the movement of people, commodities, and capital, Shifting Livelihoods investigates how resource extraction reshapes a place. In the Chocó, gold enables forms of “shift” (rebusque)—a metaphor for the fluid livelihood strategy adopted by forest dwellers and migrant gold miners alike as they seek informal work amid a drug war. Mining’s effects on rural people, corporations, and politics are on view in this fine-grained account of daily life in a regional economy dominated by gold and cocaine.

This book was released on 2002-03-14 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Office of Industrial Technologies (OIT) of the U. S. Department of Energy commissioned the National Research Council (NRC) to undertake a study on required technologies for the Mining Industries of the Future Program to complement information provided to the program by the National Mining Association. Subsequently, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health also became a sponsor of this study, and the Statement of Task was expanded to include health and safety. The overall objectives of this study are: (a) to review available information on the U.S. mining industry; (b) to identify critical research and development needs related to the exploration, mining, and processing of coal, minerals, and metals; and (c) to examine the federal contribution to research and development in mining processes.
