It would be much to the discredit of our Christian profession, if there were not the difference we have been speaking of between the past and the present. It was no shame to them that better provision was not made for the performance of public worship. But neither have we anything to boast of, seeing that we live in very different times. The days are not evil, in the way they were then. We run no risk - we peril neither life nor substance - we put in jeopardy neither person nor property, by professing the faith of Christ crucified; but are free to erect such buildings as may be thought most suitable; and to worship, every man after the manner of his fathers, or otherwise according to his conscience, in open day, unharmed.
