Redick's stunning and original fantasy series combines the invention of Scott Lynch with the power of Philip Pullman. The mighty centuries-old ship, Chathrand is long gone ... At the centre of an enchanted forest stands a clearing. Above it looms a ruined fragment of a vast tower. At its base, a group of friends. Exhausted, terrified. They stand around the body of a sorcerer, Arunis. They have slain this foe, but not before he unleashed the Swarm of Night, an ever-growing cloud of annihilation that is even now spreading across the world of Alifros. Arunis summoned the Swarm using the Nilstone, an artifact from the land of the dead. And only the Nilstone has the power to banish the Swarm again. But to do this the friends, Pazel, Thasha, Neeps and the mage Ramachni, must pass through a deadly, war-torn world, by land and sea, to the very maw of death's kingdom. Only there, far from any hope of rescue, can the Nilstone be cast away. But the Nilstone is no longer a secret. The sorceress Macadra is searching for the travellers. And while they have only each other to rely on, Macadra has an empire at her command.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Zerfall awakens in an alley, wounded and unable to remember her past. Chased by an assassin out into the endless wastes of the desert, she is caught, disfigured, and left for dead. Her scabbard is empty, but the need for answers—and the pull of her sword—will draw her back to the city-states. When Jateko, a naïve youth, accidentally kills a member of his own tribe, he finds himself outcast and pursued across the desert for his crimes. Crazed from dehydration, dying of thirst and hunger, he stumbles across Zerfall. Hunted by assassins and bound by mutual need, both Zerfall and Jeteko will confront the Täuschung, an ancient and deranged religion ruled by a broken fragment of Zerfall’s mind. Swarm, the Täuschung hell, seethes with imprisoned souls, but where gods—real or imagined—meddle in the affairs of man, the cost is high. In Swarm and Steel, the power of belief can manifest and shape reality, and for political and religious leaders, faith becomes a powerful tool. But the insane are capable of twisting reality with their delusions as well, turning increasingly dangerous as their sanity crumbles. It is here that a long prophesied evil will be born, an endless hunger. The All Consuming will rise.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considers how ancient Greek comedy offers a model for present-day politics. With Democratic Swarms, Page duBois revisits the role of Greek comedy in ancient politics, considering how it has been overlooked as a political medium by modern theorists and critics. Moving beyond the popular readings of ancient Greece through the lens of tragedy, she calls for a revitalized look at Greek comedy. Rather than revisiting the sufferings of Oedipus and his family or tragedy’s relationship to questions of sovereignty, this book calls for comedy—its laughter, its free speech, its wild swarming animal choruses, and its rebellious women—to inform another model of democracy. Ancient comedy has been underplayed in the study of Greek drama. Yet, with the irrepressible energy of the comic swarm, it provides a unique perspective on everyday life, gender and sexuality, and the utopian politics of the classical period of Athenian democracy. Using the concepts of swarm intelligence and nomadic theory, duBois augments tragic thought with the resistant, utopian, libidinous, and often joyous communal legacy of comedy, and she connects the lively anti-authoritarianism of the ancient comic chorus with the social justice movements of today.

Book Seerstone

Download or read book Seerstone written by Joe Fasbinder and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2018-05-30 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Seerstone is a thoroughly researched, tension-wrought tale of greed and how it dazzles and threatens, sometimes using the most arcane and unearthly means, to conquer a man and his family and to wring seemingly impossible changes, potentially enormous changes in the life of Dayer Preston, who, with his wife, has always striven to work toward the light, as they understand it. The story takes place at the dawn of the nineteenth century in Williker Township, a cold and dying place in western New York State at a time when it seemed that there was no magic strong enough to make things right, to bring forth abundance from an earth that withheld its bounty, despite mans best efforts. Despite the magic that stirred the spirits of heaven and earth. It is a strange and unearthly time. It was an era in which an average, everyday person knew that if you put a few hairs in a glass of water, they would turn into worms overnight, and that to assure prosperity, lamens scrawled with magic words would be placed behind the mantel. The line between magic and reality was blurred, and so the arrival of a ritual magician at your door on an early spring night wasnt much to be noticed, not even when he began to bring a struggling farm family closer and closer to the line between objective reality and a world ruled over by magic words scrawled on a page. It is a tale of mystery. How much can the magician Walters bring forth? How much of what he says are lies? And how much of what he possesses can bring forth bounty and potential wealth from an unforgiving earth? How much is simply evil? And can it be controlled? And why is Dayer Preston so necessary to the grandest of all the magic rituals that awaits them?

Book The War of the Mind Understanding Inflation and Alienation

Download or read book The War of the Mind Understanding Inflation and Alienation written by David Sinclair and published by Magus Books. This book was released on with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Christians say that Jesus Christ had two natures – divine and human. What would that be like? According to Carl Jung, we are all Jesus Christ. Our human part is our ego, the center of our consciousness, while our divine part is our Self, the unconscious center of our entire psyche. With Jesus Christ, both natures – divine and human – were conscious in one person. According to Jung, the problem for humans is that our divine nature is unconscious and our conscious human nature is, for the most part, completely unable to communicate with our inner God. If it could, we would all be Jesus. Instead, the human mind is at war with itself. The part that is truly connected to reality is our unconscious Self, the God inside us. The part that is prone to making up reality – the part that lives in a fantasy world of its own devising – is our conscious human part. For Jung, the ego (consciousness) has to undergo a process called individuation to make proper contact with the Self (the divine unconscious) and thus reach the answer to life, the universe, and everything. Dreams are where our inner God attempts to speak to us, but people are hopeless at interpreting their dreams. The more successful you become at individuation, the better sense you can make of your all-important dreams. If the conscious ego and unconscious Self have a poor relationship, disaster usually follows. Two of the biggest dangers are "inflation" and "alienation". These are currently happening on an epidemic scale and infecting the whole world with madness. The Mind War can end only if the two natures of Jesus – human and God – can at last learn to be on the same page, and understand each other's role. Come inside and find out what has to be done.

It explains how to harness an organization's natural ability to self-organize new processes spontaneously, and explains the traits that characterize collaborative members and community behavior. For business, these processes can result in successful development of products in R&D through lead-user innovation; better customer relationships by finding influencers and early adaptors; and better project management processes by finding gatekeepers and hidden leaders. The applications transcend sectors and organizations. It is about finding what is cool and putting that to productive use, whether by a small group of individuals or a large corporation.
