Book Ethics Codes in Medicine

Download or read book Ethics Codes in Medicine written by Ulrich Tröhler and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-07-23 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1998, this volume considers the Nuremberg Code in light of new ethical grey areas which have become evident due to recent scientific advancements, particularly the questions of DNA and cloning. The contributors reflect in 26 articles on the impact of the Code, events which prompted it including Japan, and more recent ethical issues raised. The book contains the results of two European/American preparatory workshops for the First World Conference on Ethics Codes in Medicine and Biotechnology (October 1997 Freiburg, Germany) supported by the leading national institutions in the field. It aims to stimulate research about codes, the effects of codification and other forms of implementing ethics. It breaks new ground with interdisciplinary and international discourse on the subject, emphasising the need for a complete collection of codes for systematic research and evaluation and filling the gap in literature on the subject to date.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book, edited by a team of leading European bioethicists, is in all respects an innovative publication. As part of the core materials project of the European Ethics Network, this book collects European perspectives on health care ethics reflecting both the rich philosophical tradition and the broad interdisciplinary network in the field of European health care ethics. In the first part of the book on the physician-patient relationship, the authors present different views on the integration of patient autonomy in the relational structure of the medical profession. Here, the focus is on the reception of patient autonomy in the European context and on European alternatives for the radical understanding of patient autonomy. In the second part of this book, the contributions deal with the ethical problems of clinical research with patients and with the ethical values involved in human experimentation. In the third part of the book, the just organisation of the health care system and the consequent resource allocation are critically examined. With their common European background, the authors want to enrich and encourage the ongoing discussion on the physician-patient relationship, human experimentation and justice in health care from various perspectives and different points of departure. Therefore, this volume is suitable for the interested reader as well as for educational purposes.

Book Rethinking Health Care Ethics

Download or read book Rethinking Health Care Ethics written by Stephen Scher and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-08-02 with total page 169 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this open access book is to develop an approach to clinical health care ethics that is more accessible to, and usable by, health professionals than the now-dominant approaches that focus, for example, on the application of ethical principles. The book elaborates the view that health professionals have the emotional and intellectual resources to discuss and address ethical issues in clinical health care without needing to rely on the expertise of bioethicists. The early chapters review the history of bioethics and explain how academics from outside health care came to dominate the field of health care ethics, both in professional schools and in clinical health care. The middle chapters elaborate a series of concepts, drawn from philosophy and the social sciences, that set the stage for developing a framework that builds upon the individual moral experience of health professionals, that explains the discontinuities between the demands of bioethics and the experience and perceptions of health professionals, and that enables the articulation of a full theory of clinical ethics with clinicians themselves as the foundation. Against that background, the first of three chapters on professional education presents a general framework for teaching clinical ethics; the second discusses how to integrate ethics into formal health care curricula; and the third addresses the opportunities for teaching available in clinical settings. The final chapter, "Empowering Clinicians", brings together the various dimensions of the argument and anticipates potential questions about the framework developed in earlier chapters.

Book New Pathways for European Bioethics

Download or read book New Pathways for European Bioethics written by Chris Gastmans and published by Intersentia NV. This book was released on 2007 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is an edition of papers presented during the international conference New Pathways for European Bioethics, held in Leuven in 2006. This conference aimed to stimulate reflection on current developments in European bioethics, such as the connection between social science and bioethics, care ethics, bioethics and law, and ethics and technology. A common theme in these four topics is the growing interrelationship between disciplines or approaches in bioethics and law. These new developments give rise to a number of questions. Are we moving toward a split between an ethics of technology and an ethics of care? How should we deal with empirical research methods in bioethics? Does an international biolaw exist? These and other questions demand new ethical reflection. This book describes these developments, but its mission goes further than paying close attention; it also intends to critically review them. Since most topics are analysed by leading European ethicists, social scientists, and lawyers, this book stands for the interdisciplinary approach in European bioethics. It offers a rich source of material for reflection for ethicists, lawyers, social scientists, and healthcare practitioners.

Book The Voices and Rooms of European Bioethics

Download or read book The Voices and Rooms of European Bioethics written by Richard Huxtable and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-04-24 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reflects on the many contributions made in and to European bioethics to date, in various locations, and from various disciplinary perspectives. In so doing, the book advances understanding of the academic and social status of European bioethics as it is being supported and practiced by various disciplines such as philosophy, law, medicine, and the social sciences, applied to a wide range of areas. The European focus offers a valuable counter-balance to an often prominent US understanding of bioethics. The volume is split into four parts. The first contains reflection on bioethics in the past, present and future, and also considers how comparison between countries and disciplines can enrich bioethical discourse. The second looks at bioethics in particular locations and contexts, including: policy, boardrooms and courtrooms; studios and virtual rooms; and society, while the third part explores the translation of theories and concepts of bioethics into the clinical setting.
