Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A 52-year-old hunter, the younger dragon who loves her, and a teenage hunter-in-training, all in a cottage in a magical garden (to say nothing of the three elves, eight witches, a sisterly dragon, and the cat sent by a goddess) . . . Diana Barksdale has been a hunter for the Diana Council for most of her life, working as an avatar for the Roman goddess Diana by finding and eliminating those magical creatures who are causing harm. Known only as Barksdale (because what else do you do in a group with hundreds of women, all named Diana?), she's sacrificed any personal life to serve the goddess's will. But now she's been sent on a far more terrifying mission--training a 14-year-old girl. Harrison David has been in love with Barksdale ever since he woke up to find her spear at his throat. As a dragon, loving only one person makes him a bit of an outcast, but, now that his mother the dragon queen has sent him to live with Barksdale and help her train a new Diana, none of that matters. What does is that there's a threat growing in their beautiful new home, one his dragon senses detect only too well--and he'll do whatever it takes to protect the woman he loves and their young trainee. Artemis (Miz) Montero's hope is simply to get through each day unscathed. As a foster child, she's used to ending up in questionable situations. But a house in a huge public garden where an old woman tells her she's going to become an avatar for a Roman goddess? That's not just questionable. That's crazy! Still, the three of them will need to work together to create a new kind of follower for the goddess. Because there's something wrong with the Diana Council, and, if they don't fix it, they may all be dead. Joined by more magical teenagers than Barksdale can shake her bow and arrow at, they'll have to find a way to heal the land and make several goddesses happy, or they may not live to fight another day. The Eternal Hunt is a perfect introduction to the More in Heaven and Earth universe. Continuing readers will delight in visits from dozens of old friends, while new readers can easily enjoy the loads of quirky humor, romance, and suspense of this unusual contemporary fantasy with plenty of mythological twists. On a Katherine Gilbert wackiness scale of 1-to-10 sarcastic talking cats*, this one is a 7. *Warning: Not all stories contain talking cats. Wackiness may take other forms. The More in Heaven and Earth series is all set in the same magical universe filled with angels, witches, werewolves, demons, vampires, ghosts, and many other supernatural creatures. These intriguing tales can be read in any order or as stand-alones and will introduce the reader to a variety of fascinating characters throughout the many unique locales of this exciting world.

Book excerpt: From the New York Times reporters who first uncovered S.S. officer Aribert Heim’s secret life in Egypt comes the never-before-told story of the most hunted Nazi war criminal in the world. Dr. Aribert Heim worked at the Mauthausen concentration camp for only a few months in 1941 but left a devastating mark. According to the testimony of survivors, Heim euthanized patients with injections of gasoline into their hearts. He performed surgeries on otherwise healthy people. Some recalled prisoners' skulls set out on his desk to display perfect sets of teeth. Yet in the chaos of the postwar period, Heim was able to slip away from his dark past and establish himself as a reputable doctor and family man in the resort town of Baden-Baden. His story might have ended there, but for certain rare Germans who were unwilling to let Nazi war criminals go unpunished, among them a police investigator named Alfred Aedtner. After Heim fled on a tip that he was about to be arrested, Aedtner turned finding him into an overriding obsession. His quest took him across Europe and across decades, and into a close alliance with legendary Nazi hunter Simon Wiesenthal. The hunt for Heim became a powerful symbol of Germany's evolving attitude toward the sins of its past, which finally crested in a desire to see justice done at almost any cost. As late as 2009, the mystery of Heim’s disappearance remained unsolved. Now, in The Eternal Nazi, Nicholas Kulish and Souad Mekhennet reveal for the first time how Aribert Heim evaded capture--living in a working-class neighborhood of Cairo, praying in Arabic, beloved by an adopted Muslim family--while inspiring a manhunt that outlived him by many years. It is a brilliant feat of historical detection that illuminates a nation’s dramatic reckoning with the crimes of the Holocaust.

Book What Love Is This

Download or read book What Love Is This written by Dave Hunt and published by . This book was released on 2007-04-22 with total page 590 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Many sincere, Bible-believing Christians are Calvinists only by default. Thinking that the only choice is between Calvinism (with its presumed doctrine of eternal security) and Arminianism (with its teaching that salvation can be lost), and confident of Christ's promise to keep eternally those who believe in Him, they therefore consider themselves to be Calvinists. It takes only a few simple questions to discover that most Christians are largely unaware of what John Calvin and his early followers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries actually believed and practiced. Nor do they fully understand what most of today's leading Calvinists believe. Although there are disputed variations of the Calvinist doctrine, among its chief proponents (whom we quote extensively in context) there is general agreement on certain core beliefs. Many evangelicals who think they are Calvinists will be surprised to learn of Calvin's belief in salvation through infant baptism and of his grossly un-Christian behavior, at times, as the "Protestant Pope" of Geneva, Switzerland. Most shocking of all, however, is Calvinism's misrepresentation of God, who "is love." It is our prayer that this volume will enable readers to examine more carefully the vital issues involved and to follow God's holy Word--not man's teachings. "The first edition of this book was greeted by fervent opposition and criticism from Calvinists. In this enlarged and revised edition I have endeavored to respond to the critics." --Dave Hunt

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the winner of the 2015 Man Booker International Prize The latest novel from “the contemporary Hungarian master of the apocalypse” (Susan Sontag) Seiobo — a Japanese goddess — has a peach tree in her garden that blossoms once every three thousand years: its fruit brings immortality. In Seiobo There Below, we see her returning again and again to mortal realms, searching for a glimpse of perfection. Beauty, in Krasznahorkai’s new novel, reflects, however fleetingly, the sacred — even if we are mostly unable to bear it. Seiobo shows us an ancient Buddha being restored; Perugino managing his workshop; a Japanese Noh actor rehearsing; a fanatic of Baroque music lecturing a handful of old villagers; tourists intruding into the rituals of Japan’s most sacred shrine; a heron hunting.… Over these scenes and more — structured by the Fibonacci sequence — Seiobo hovers, watching it all.
