Book The Essentials of Pathology Classic Reprint

Download or read book The Essentials of Pathology Classic Reprint written by D. Tod Gilliam and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-07 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Essentials of Pathology The object of this little book is to unfold to the beginner the fundamentals of pathology in a plain, practical way, and by bringing them within easy comprehension to increase his interest in the study of the subject. It is not, therefore, intended to supplant more pretentious works by allaying, but rather to lead up to them by kindling, a thirst for pathologi cal investigation. Some departures from the ordinary have been made in the arrangement of the work, but it is believed that they will conduce to a more thorough and easy under standing of the subjects treated. I have, in great measure, purposely avoided the discussion of unsettled questions, and have occasionally stated dogmatically that which admits of question. This has been done with a view to prevent con fusion in the mind of the student, and to impart clear-cut conceptions of the generally accepted doctrines of to-day. For the same reason I have avoided the slight detractions incident to bibliographical references, though, I fear, with questionable propriety. A very considerable experience in teaching, extending through some years past, leads me to hope that this effort will not prove barren of some good results. Book Clinical Pathology Classic Reprint

Download or read book Clinical Pathology Classic Reprint written by P. N. Panton and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2018-02-23 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Clinical Pathology This book represents an attempt to describe in a reasonable compass such laboratory investigations, whether chemical, histological or bacteriological, as have a practical bearing upon the diagnosis and treatment of disease; to give some account of their meaning, and to assess, so far as possible, their value in practice. Many of the smaller text-books of Clinical Pathology deal with the subject only in part; the complexity of methods in the larger works renders them more suitable to special investigators, and it was felt that a book of intermediate size might be of use to the student and practitioner. The reduction in size has been mainly arrived at by avoidance of a reduplication of methods, in preference to the omission of any essential branch of the subject. Where several methods for the same object are in use, one, or at most two, are described in full: the remainder are omitted altogether. Much of scientific interest has been necessarily sacrificed to the practical application of diagnostic methods, and the book has consequently no pretensions to consideration as anything more than an adjunct to clinical medicine. No list of references is given, and the names of authorities, unless definitely associated with a particular reaction, are for the most part omitted. This book was released on 2017-03-29 with total page 604 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Pathology, General and Special, for Students of Medicine I have' therefore endeavoured, in this book, to detail the essentials of general and special pathology, such as seem to me to be required by the majority of medical students. No novelty is claimed in the arrangement of subjects or presentation of the matter. The question of arrangement of subjects is a difficult one, but since every pathological process is intimately associated with other processes, it has not appeared to me to be one of particular importance. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of General Pathology Attempts have been made to formulate a conception of health on a statistical basis by establishing standards of average capacity. On such a basis health would be defined as the condition of the individual which most closely approached to the average standard of the race. The, possession of health, however, is so frequently associated with a wide departure from such an average that such a method becomes useless, and the subjective sensation forms the only satisfactory means of judging of the existence of health. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Pathology The present edition of the d104 Book of Pathology follows the style of previous issues in presenting the matter in paragraphic reference form, although so much new matter'has been added and so extensive a revision of every section has been made necessary by the rapid increase in pathologic knowledge during late years, that a complete resetting of the whole book was decided upon. The additions however have been in the direction of new matter and detail, with a careful avoidance of specula tion and controversy, the attempt being to give the practitioner and student a conservative defensible opinion of the subject as it is understood today. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Text-Book of General and Special Pathology: For Students and Practitioners Owing to lack of space, it was necessary to give only the essentials and to present views more or less generally accepted in as concise a form as possible; hence, many topics could be only very briefly discussed. For the same reason references to authors and literature have been omitted, except when of historic interest or to support statements in the text which may be at variance with prevailing conceptions. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Pathology This little work does not pretend to be a text-book. The author expects, rather, that the majority of his readers are already conversant with the subjects herein treated. Nor is it desired to compete with any of the excellent treatises on this branch of medicine which have appeared in such gratifying numbers during the last few years. His aim has been simply to establish the natural groundwork which must exist in this, as well as in every natural science, and to place it in as clear a light as possible. These efforts have, in the course of several years, culminated in this little book, which is now issued with the hope of eliciting the opinions of his confreres. Book A Text Book of Pathology for Practitioners and Students Classic Reprint

Download or read book A Text Book of Pathology for Practitioners and Students Classic Reprint written by Joseph McFarland and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-09-16 with total page 826 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Pathology, for Practitioners and Students Tm: author, having taught Pathology and Bacteriology for thirteen years, endeavors in the following pages to present in a succinct, intelligible, and readable manner the facts that every student should know before he advances from the elementary to the practical branches of medicine. The work has been written particularly for students working for the degree of Doctor of Medicine, who need to acquire the principles of pathology rather than to busy themselves with the evolution of the subject or to enter into the con sideration of its controversial points. Well-known facts are, therefore, pre sented as such, while others are frequently dismissed after brief mention with the frank statement that the matter is not yet understood. Over-voluminousness was the greatest evil that had to be overcome in the writing, and what could be consistently omitted was a far greater problem than what should be introduced. The natural impression of the author was that nothing should be omitted but the size of the manuscript became, and after careful condensation remained, so large, that something had to be done lest its usefulness be destroyed. A kind of compromise was eventually effected by the use of two sizes of type, the more important matter being printed in the standard type and the less important in smaller type. The standard works have been freely consulted and drawn upon, though the names of the authors and the references to their writings have been for the most part omitted, as the work was not designed to be in any sense encyclopedic. The illustrations have been selected for the purpose of assist ing the reader to comprehend the text. Many of them are original, but the author has to thank the writers and the publishers of a number of well known books for their courtesy in permitting him to use illustrations from their works. The borrowed illustrations have been duly credited to the authors from whose writings they have been selected. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Pathology, Vol. 1: General Pathology If in writing the original work the hopelessness of the attempt to master the subject in all its aspects impressed the writer, still more has his inability to keep abreast of the advances in all branches of medicine and cognate sciences during the last two years weighed upon him in revising this edition. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Principles of Clinical Pathology: A Text-Book for Students and Physicians The original edition contains copious references to the German literature. Many of these have been omitted, more especially those referring to the older literature and to the well-known German text-books. In their place, I have added quite a number of English references, which may be of some assistance to those who do not read German and who desire to look up more elaborate discussions of many of the subjects. Unfortunately our own literature is often rather fragmentary. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Book excerpt: Excerpt from A d104-Book of Pathology for Students of Medicine IT will at first glance be thought that two large publications upon the same subject by the same author within a relatively brief space of time must be alike. We venture to think that the reader will not find in this work any lengthy excerpt from The Principles of Pathology, but on the contrary will find considerable evidence of modification. Its birth, however, in a certain sense may be laid at the door of the previous work, to be presently explained.
