Book Alternative Immunoassays

Download or read book Alternative Immunoassays written by W. P. Collins and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1985 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent advances in biotechnology are changing the study and practice of diagnostic medicine, and have lead to a revival of interest in alternative immunoassays. This situation is mainly due to the advent of monoclonal antibodies, and the use of alternative labels to monitor the reactions. Many laboratory tests are now more efficient than in the past, and others can be carried out in extra-laboratory locations (e.g. the outpatient clinic, ward or home) thus making the subject of greater value to clinicians and practitioners.

Book Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay ELISA

Download or read book Enzyme linked Immunosorbent Assay ELISA written by Samira Hosseini and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-12-30 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book offers comprehensive information on all aspects of ELISA, starting with the fundamentals of the immune system. It also reviews the history of analytical assays prior to the advent of ELISA (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay) and addresses the materials of choice for the fabrication of the platforms, possible biomolecular interactions, different protocols, and evaluation parameters. The book guides readers through the respective steps of the analytical assay, while also familiarizing them with the possible sources of error in the assay. It offers detailed insights into the immobilization techniques used for protein attachment, as well as methods for evaluating the assay and calculating the key parameters, such as sensitivity, specificity, accuracy and limit of detection. In addition, the book explores the advantages and shortcomings of the conventional ELISA, as well as various approaches to improving its performance. In this regard, merging and integrating other technologies with widely known ELISAs have opened new avenues for the advancement of this immunoassay. Accordingly, the book provides cutting-edge information on integrated platforms such as ELISpot, plasmonic ELISAs, sphere-/bead-based ELISAs, paper-/fiber-based ELISAs and ELISA in micro-devices.

Book Mycotoxin Protocols

    Book Details:
  • Author : Mary W. Trucksess
  • Publisher : Springer Science & Business Media
  • Release : 2008-02-05
  • ISBN : 1592590640
  • Pages : 245 pages

Download or read book Mycotoxin Protocols written by Mary W. Trucksess and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-02-05 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mycotoxins produced by molds are common contaminants of many important crops, including wheat, corn, rice, and peanuts. Some mycotoxins are found in fruits and vegetables. These contaminants have a broad range of toxic effects, including carcinogenicity, neurotoxicity, and reproductive and developmental toxicity. The occurrence of mycotoxins in foods is an unavoidable worldwide problem. About 80 countries have imposed regulatory limits to minimize human and animal exposure to mycotoxins. Regulatory limits, including international standards, have tremendous economic impact and must be developed using science-based risk assessments. The purpose of Mycotoxin Protocols is to provide the scientific and technological basis for analytical methods for use in obtaining the exposure data needed for risk assessments. Mycotoxin Protocols is divided into four sections, which are interc- nected. The first section: Chapters 1–5 describe the general techniques for mycotoxin analysis with emphasis on the importance of method validation based on statistical parameters; sampling procedures for collecting a sample as representative as possible of a bulk lot; the isolation of mycotoxins for use as analytical standards or for toxicological studies; the evaluation of purity and preparation of standards; and the detection and identification of impu- ties in isolated mycotoxins. Sections 2–4: Chapters 6–19 describe the most current chromatographic and immunochemical methods for studies on the major mycotoxins.

Book Biosensors for Direct Monitoring of Environmental Pollutants in Field

Download or read book Biosensors for Direct Monitoring of Environmental Pollutants in Field written by D.P. Nikolelis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 386 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Biosensors offer clear and distinct advantages over standard analytical methods for the direct monitoring of environmental pollutants in the field, such as real-time detection with minimum sample preparation and handling. The present book highlights recent advantages that will be of great value to a range of scientists, researchers and students dealing with analytical and environmental chemistry and biosensor technology. It presents recent trends in analytical methodology for the determination of indoor and outdoor pollutants, advances in DNA, biological and recognition-based sensors, examples of biosensors for use in field and water analysis, biosensors based on non-aqueous systems, and recent advances in the miniaturisation and micromachining of biosensors.

Book Laboratory Techniques in Thrombosis a Manual

Download or read book Laboratory Techniques in Thrombosis a Manual written by J. Jespersen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-12-01 with total page 307 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first edition of this manual appeared in 1992 and was entitled ECAT Assay Procedures. It was the result of a unique cooperation between experts brought together by the European Concerted Action on Thrombosis and Disabilities (ECAT). The Concerted Action was at that time under the auspices of the Commission of the European Union. The second edition, like the first edition, deals with diagnostic tests within the field of thrombosis. However, the second edition has a broader scope because it is no longer limited by the frontiers of ECAT. Experts allover the world, in and outside ECAT, have contributed to this edition. The editors are very grateful for their contributions. The need for a new edition is obvious. Since 1992 new assays have been introduced for research, diagnosis, and therapy of thrombosis; for other assays improvements have been suggested, while a few others became redundant. The editors waived the radioimmunoassays of ~-thrombog1obulin and platelet factor 4 due to the fact that the kits required for these assays are rarely, or no longer, available. Also the PAI-1 activity assay was waived as it is liable to many inconsistencies and to large variations. A list of names and addresses of manufacturers marketing the kits and reagents has been compiled, together with a list of the recommended nomenclature of quantities in thrombosis and haemostasis, in order to facilitate the use of the updated version. These lists have been carefully compiled by Johannes J. Sidelmann, PhD, Department of Clinical Biochemistry in Esbjerg, Denmark.
