Book A Manual of Nature Conservation Law

Download or read book A Manual of Nature Conservation Law written by Michael J. Fry and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1995 with total page 538 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Manual contains, in a convenient reference volume, the sources of nature and countryside conservation law. This area of law covers a wide range including the protection of species, nature reserves, sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs), national parks and areas of outstanding natural beauty. Legal provisions relating to nature conservation extend to agriculture, forestry and the water industry and to areas such as environmental duties and organisations. The materials in the book include primary legislation, statutory instruments and policy guidance. Legislation such as the National Parks and Access to the Countryside Act 1949 and the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 have been heavily amended. The text incorporates these amendments together with annotations providing cross-references to definitions, related primary legislation and statutory instruments, commencement dates and selected cases. It also includes the regulations made in respect of the EC Habitats Directive, the Planning Policy Guidance on nature conservation relating to England and the Scottish Office Circular on the implementation of the EC Birds and Habitats Directives. The arrangement of the Manual enables legal provisions to be located quickly without the need to search through several sources and will prove to be a practical guide to all those concerned with nature conservation.

  • Author : Moon-Kie Jung
  • Publisher : Duke University Press
  • Release : 2021-03-01

Download or read book Antiblackness written by Moon-Kie Jung and published by Duke University Press. This book was released on 2021-03-01 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Antiblackness investigates the ways in which the dehumanization of Black people has been foundational to the establishment of modernity. Drawing on Black feminism, Afropessimism, and critical race theory, the book's contributors trace forms of antiblackness across time and space, from nineteenth-century slavery to the categorization of Latinx in the 2020 census, from South Africa and Palestine to the Chickasaw homelands, from the White House to convict lease camps, prisons, and schools. Among other topics, they examine the centrality of antiblackness in the introduction of Carolina rice to colonial India, the presence of Black people and Native Americans in the public discourse of precolonial Korea, and the practices of denial that obscure antiblackness in contemporary France. Throughout, the contributors demonstrate that any analysis of white supremacy---indeed, of the world---that does not contend with antiblackness is incomplete. Contributors. Mohan Ambikaipaker, Jodi A. Byrd, Iyko Day, Anthony Paul Farley, Crystal Marie Fleming, Sarah Haley, Tanya Katerí Hernández, Sarah Ihmoud, Joy James, Moon-Kie Jung, Jae Kyun Kim, Charles W. Mills, Dylan Rodríguez, Zach Sell, João H. Costa Vargas, Frank B. Wilderson III, Connie Wun

Book The Welfare of Domestic Fowl and Other Captive Birds

Download or read book The Welfare of Domestic Fowl and Other Captive Birds written by Ian J. H. Duncan and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-29 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Animal welfare is attracting increasing interest worldwide, especially in developed countries where the knowledge and resources are available to (at least potentially) provide better management systems for farm animals, as well as companion, zoo and laboratory animals. The key requirements for adequate food, water, a suitable environment, appropriate companionship and good health are important for animals kept for all of these purposes. There has been increased attention given to farm animal welfare in many co- tries in recent years. This derives largely from the fact that the relentless pursuit of nancial reward and ef ciency, to satisfy market demands, has led to the devel- ment of intensive animal production systems that challenge the conscience of many consumers in those countries. In developing countries, human survival is still a daily uncertainty, so that p- vision for animal welfare has to be balanced against human needs. Animal welfare is usually a priority only if it supports the output of the animal, be it food, work, clothing, sport or companionship. In principle the welfare needs of both humans and animals can be provided for, in both developing and developed countries, if resources are properly husbanded. In reality, however, the inequitable division of the world’s riches creates physical and psychological poverty for humans and a- mals alike in many parts of the world.
