It consists of 26 contributions by internationally recognized leading scientists. The main book chapters are grouped into two parts: · Part I – The Orobanchaceae and Their Parasitic Mechanisms · Part II – The Weedy Orobanchaceae and Their Control The first part provides cutting-edge information on all key aspects of plant parasitism, such as the structure, development and function of the haustorium; nutrient transfer and the physiology of the parasite-host association; host reaction to parasitic plants; seed production and germination; the strigolactones and host-parasite signaling mechanisms; the parasite genome, phylogenetics, evolution and epigenetics; and ecology. Topics of the second part include: the problem posed by the weedy parasites; population diversity and dynamics; molecular diagnosis of seed banks; and detailed discussion of the various management strategies, including agronomic, chemical and biotechnological approaches, as well as host breeding for resistance, allelopathy and biological control. This book is intended for plant scientists, university lecturers and students, agronomists and weed specialists, breeders and farmers, extension personnel and experts in tropical and subtropical agriculture.

They represent the asterid order Lamiales except for Acanthaceae (including Avicenniaceae), which will be included in a later volume. Although most of the constituent families of the order have been recognized as being closely related long ago, the inclusion of the families Byblidaceae, Carlemanniaceae and Plocospermataceae is the result mainly of recent molecular systematic research. Keys for the identification of all genera are provided, and likely phylogenetic relationships are discussed extensively. To facilitate the recognition of relationships, families are cross-referenced where necessary. The wealth of information contained in this volume makes it an indispensable source for anybody in the fields of pure and applied plant sciences.

Book Human Rights Discourse on Dams Displacement and Resettlement

Download or read book Human Rights Discourse on Dams Displacement and Resettlement written by Namita Gupta and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2023-05-10 with total page 198 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since the 1990s, development-induced displacement has emerged as a major human rights concern. At the heart of this debate lie the issues of equity, governance, justice and power. There are many examples of dam-induced displacement and resettlement being mismanaged and thus leading to enormous social and environmental costs. The developing impasse necessitated fresh insights into the lives of affected people, and a review of assumptions, questions and options in social engineering, a challenge that was taken up in sociological and anthropological research. This book is an endeavour to fill this gap by providing a comprehensive outlook on the human rights issues involved in development induced displacement. This book is a sincere effort to provide a critical analysis of the environmental, social and economic impacts of development projects. It further calls for a serious deliberation on the human rights aspects of development induced displacement.
