Download or read book Empower written by Tareq Azim and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2024-08-06 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "If you knock on Wakil's door, he's going to kill you." That's what Tareq Azim's guide told him, as they stood at the foot of the local Taliban warlord's home. Most people would let fear get the better of them. However, Tareq had already conquered fear. He walked up to the door by himself, and gave three loud knocks. Azim's family descended from Afghan royalty, but were forced to flee in 1979, after the Soviet Union invasion. They eventually settled as refugees in San Francisco. In the span of weeks, Azim's family went from living a life of privilege to Section 8 housing in the East Bay. Tareq assimilated into American life through sports, excelling in wrestling, boxing, and football. After graduating and playing football at Fresno State, Tareq's unease with how his family was forced from their ancestral land still bothered him. He decided to travel home and reclaim his ancestral land. Upon arriving in Afghanistan, Tareq quickly discovered there was no land to "reclaim." His childhood home had been blown to high hell over the course of 20 years of fighting. What Tareq did discover were dozens of children wandering aimlessly, waiting for inevitable recruitment into the Taliban or to be trafficked into a world of darkness. Tareq had found salvation in sports; these kids could, too. Specifically, Tareq thought the young women he met could benefit from boxing. Getting permission to train them meant a conversation with the local warlord. And that meant walking up to his home, and knocking on that door. Azim would get that approval. He would go on to train the first and only Afghani female boxer in Olympic history. He was 24 years old. Tareq returned to San Francisco and opened up a number of gyms to help others. Coming up with a name was easy: Empower. EMPOWER: Conquering the Disease of Fear is part memoir, part game plan. Reader's will draw strength from Azim's personal journey (a reflection of so many immigrants), and from the actionable ways in which he mentally and emotionally overcame fear, and not just quelling it-rather, harnessing its power to his advantage. Balancing Azim's narrative are a vibrant cast of characters and of case studies, each highlighting one of Azim's seven principles. They include Governor Gavin Newsome, former NFL star running back Marshawn Lynch, Representative Tulsi Gabbard, MMA star Jake Shields, and the owner of the San Francisco 49ers, Jed York, among others. Whether it's beating addiction, getting out of toxic relationships, or the pursuit of mental, spiritual, and physical strength, Azim can help readers identify their fears, and how to conquer them"--

Download or read book Empowerment Is a Choice written by Verl Anderson and published by Nova Science Publishers. This book was released on 2020-08-11 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The desire for the power to control the conditions in one's life is a basic need possessed by virtually everyone. Power is sometimes associated with the desire for personal safety. It is also referred to as closely associated with free will, the ability to choose, and the degree to which a person can influence others. In individualistic societies, personal power is a primary value of the culture and is considered more important than the priorities of the group. This book is about "power with" rather than "power over" others - but also addresses power within oneself. We have written with the intent to help leaders to more effectively empower others within their organizations - but we have focused as well on the critical importance of self-empowerment and the ability of individuals to take control of their own lives to become the best persons that they can be. It is painfully evident that today's leaders have failed badly at empowering their employees - resulting in relationships that are frequently strained and generating employee commitment that is often "marginal" at best. Worldwide, empowerment and employee engagement are both low and employees have lost trust for leaders in organizations of all types. The inability of organizations to engender employee commitment and extra-mile performance detracts from the ability of companies to compete in today's global environment - but "old style" command and control management policies nonetheless prevail in many companies - to the detriment of the companies, their customers and employees, and to society at large. Self-empowerment is equally a problem. Employees who wish to grow and progress on the job are common - but 70% of all employees today report that they are actively looking for a new job and many have a low regard for their companies and their companies' leaders. Opportunities for growth are often diminished as managers and supervisors fail to involve their employees in decisions critical to their companies' success. Yet the status quo prevails. We focus not only on employee self-empowerment but on the personal self-development that many individuals yearn for as they strive to "find their voice" and become the best possible version of themselves. We cite scholars from a broad variety of disciplines in offering their wisdom and add recommendations that can help individuals to acquire the traits and qualities so important to self-improvement. We encourage the readers to invest their time and effort to not only reading this book but to reflecting on its insights. Our intention is to help every reader to discover within themselves abilities and opportunities beyond their expectations as they strive to achieve the success that empowerment and self-empowerment make possible"--

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to our plan, it is time to publish our second scripture, The Mysteries of Dharma Bodies. However, after our readers had finished reading the first scripture, Rectifying Fallacies of Modern Buddhism, most inquiries were concerning how to practice the Qingyang meditation method. The author feels obliged to publish a guidance book on the practice of the Qingyang meditation in order to help people go about their practice. *The meditation practice, as followed by the disciples of Buddha-to-Be Religion, has a legacy of lineage order; from ancient times up to this day, it has been passed down from generation to generation. This meditation practice originates from the correct Dharma. Therefore, our ancestors, who had undergone the practice of high-level meditation practice, cultivated and developed the high Dharma Bodies and eventually entered Nirvana. **The meditation our disciples practice is the “Meditation of Life and Wisdom.” But, in the earlier phase, we stress the practice of the “Meditation of Life” to help develop health and longevity, and in the later phase, we emphasize the practice of the “Meditation of Wisdom” to develop wisdom and potential.
Download or read book Chronic Love Trusting God While Suffering with A Chronic Illness written by Brooke Bartz and published by Ambassador International. This book was released on 2019-09-01 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suffering is inescapable in this world. Jesus told us we would face perilous trials and that even our bodies would feel the effects of the Fall. For true and lasting comfort we must dig deeper into God's Word and the context in which those much-used passages were written. In Chronic Love, Brooke Bartz reveals a deeply raw and descriptive account of life with a chronic and debilitating illness, and she shares with readers how comfort and strength can be found through the Truth in God's Word. Specifically designed for women who daily battle chronic illness, Chronic Love's goal is to provide solid Scriptural encouragement for the fight.
Download or read book Acceptance of Mental Illness written by Lauren Mizock and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-08 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recently there has been a growing awareness of the process of recovery from serious mental illness and the importance of coming to terms with the challenges resulting from the illness. Acceptance of one's mental illness is a critical milestone of the recovery journey, fostering empowerment, hope, and self-determination. In addition, there has been a developing interest in the role of culture in influencing the experience of mental illness, treatment, and recovery. Yet, the topic of how people with diverse cultural backgrounds come to recognize and cope with their mental illness is often overlooked in the literature. Acceptance of Mental Illness adheres to a recovery-oriented philosophy that understands recovery as not simply symptom elimination, but as the process of living a meaningful and satisfying life with mental illness. The book synthesizes research on this topic and offers extensive case histories gathered by the authors to provide readers with an understanding of the multidimensional process of acceptance of mental illness across genders, ethnicities, and sexual orientations. The aim is for clinical readers to be better equipped to support people with mental illness across culturally diverse groups to experience empowerment, mental wellness, and growth. Chapters focus on providing a historical overview of the treatment of people with mental illness, examining the acceptance process, and exploring the experience of acceptance among women, men, racial-ethnic minorities, and LGBT individuals with serious mental illnesses. The book is a useful tool for mental health educators and providers, with each chapter containing case studies, clinical strategies lists, discussion questions, experiential activities, diagrams, and worksheets that can be completed with clients, students, and peers.
