Book The Vulnerable Empowered Woman

Download or read book The Vulnerable Empowered Woman written by Tasha N. Dubriwny and published by Rutgers University Press. This book was released on 2012-11-14 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The feminist women’s health movement of the 1960s and 1970s is credited with creating significant changes in the healthcare industry and bringing women’s health issues to public attention. Decades later, women’s health issues are more visible than ever before, but that visibility is made possible by a process of depoliticization The Vulnerable Empowered Woman assesses the state of women’s healthcare today by analyzing popular media representations—television, print newspapers, websites, advertisements, blogs, and memoirs—in order to understand the ways in which breast cancer, postpartum depression, and cervical cancer are discussed in American public life. From narratives about prophylactic mastectomies to young girls receiving a vaccine for sexually transmitted disease, the representations of women’s health today form a single restrictive identity: the vulnerable empowered woman. This identity defuses feminist notions of collective empowerment and social change by drawing from both postfeminist and neoliberal ideologies. The woman is vulnerable because of her very femininity and is empowered not to change the world, but to choose from among a limited set of medical treatments. The media’s depiction of the vulnerable empowered woman’s relationship with biomedicine promotes traditional gender roles and affirms women’s unquestioning reliance on medical science for empowerment. The book concludes with a call to repoliticize women’s health through narratives that can help us imagine women—and their relationship to medicine—differently.

Life can get so hectic and out of control at times that we feel like we don't have any control at all. What we believe about ourselves becomes our reality; and in so many ways, what we believe about ourselves forms our future. I'm not speaking in airy-fairy, New Age terms here. I am talking about the real deal. 🙍🏻 Our paradigms drive us, one way or the other. You have to willfully choose how you want to be steered. If you are the captain of your boat called life, then your hands need to firmly remain on the wheel that moves the rudder. You can't be the captain of your boat called life if you allow other people to form your paradigms, your beliefs about Self. Don't allow others to shape your beliefs about yourself. Read The Empowered Life. 👍🏻 Success coach Cassandra Blizzard offers an intensive look at how we inadvertently give away our personal power and how we can regroup and bring ourselves back into balance. Break through wrong-thinking, overcome obstacles, restore hope, and create personal success. Using this book, together with The Empowered Life: The Workbook, you can transform yourself and your life, reconnect with your Soul, and develop inner peace. 🤸🏻‍♂️ Wouldn’t you like to feel better about your life? Empowerment is just a choice away. Sometimes we make major changes in life just by taking one, small step, or making one, simple decision. But those decisions are not always easy to make. We tend to cater to other people’s whim, or we are afraid of hurting someone’s feelings. Afraid to take a risk, to step out of that dead-end job and aim for something higher. Afraid to make a decision to get out of a bad relationship. Afraid, fearful, anxious. Too often, these are the emotions that rule our lives and make our decisions for us. But it doesn’t have to be that way. You can empower yourself to be more in control of your life, to be more centered, to make more positive decisions for self, and to understand how the soul works in your life to bring you to a better place, always. Whether in business, relationship, or just within yourself, you can learn how to take control and be a much more balanced, much happier person. The Heavenly Father wants women to experience a full restoration in who He created them to be - in the home, society, and ministry! He wants them to know their valued identity and be empowered by His love. The Empowered Woman reveals how God carefully wove beautiful elements of His likeness into both male and female. The Hebrew language of Genesis reveals the woman's intimate design for community and connection, as communicators, face-to-face counterparts with men, as visionary leaders with intuition, and even as a warrior bride for divine purpose, and more! Learn how the Fall renamed and redefined a woman's identity and how it has played out in life, relationships, and cultures, but how Jesus, the Last Adam, restores her to full authentic design! These 212 pages will delight your heart as you realize the truth, freedom and purpose that women are called to experience in Christ as empowered daughters of God for such a time as this!

Perhaps you used to like being thought of as reliable, but you long for a life of your own again—one with fewer emergency circumstances and people who need lots of “help.” It isn’t just you. Many women have been socialized to quietly pick up the slack and not complain—this is a setup for isolation, second guessing, and waiting for rewards that never come. We spend our energies managing demands and treat our own emotions and needs as irrelevant. Sasha provides a hard look at the cultural beliefs that set strong, driven, ambitious women up for a life spent constantly saving others from themselves, filling in gaps, and going it alone like a hybrid of Wonder Woman and Working Girl. The Strong Woman Trap is the book is for women who spend their spare moments looking wistfully through magazines telling themselves their dreams are just one more personal sacrifice away. Wishes won’t get you there. Neither will doubling down on old strategies. What will get you there is learning the secrets to escaping The Strong Woman Trap.

Book A qualitative assessment of a gender sensitive agricultural training program in Benin Findings on program experience and women s empowerment across key agricultural value chains

Download or read book A qualitative assessment of a gender sensitive agricultural training program in Benin Findings on program experience and women s empowerment across key agricultural value chains written by Eissler, Sarah and published by Intl Food Policy Res Inst. This book was released on 2021-03-02 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study presents qualitative findings from an assessment conducted by the International Food Policy Research Institute and Cultural Practice, LLC of the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD) Agricultural Technical Vocational Education and Training program for women (ATVET4Women) in Benin, supported by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). ATVET4Women in Benin targets women working in value chains for four target commodities (soy, rice, chicken, and compost) to support capacity building in their respective nodes (production, processing, and marketing). The contributions of this study are multifold. First, it assesses program experiences and impacts. Second, it examines the gender dimensions of production, processing, and marketing activities in four specific value chains. Third, this research is a component of a broader study to adapt and validate the project-level Women’s Empowerment in Agriculture Index for market inclusion (pro-WEAI+MI) on key agricultural value chains in Benin and Malawi for ATVET4Women. This study employed multiple qualitative methods to assess beneficiaries’ program experiences and impacts. Fifteen key informant interviews were conducted with various actors along the value chain and agro-processing center managers involved in ATVET4Women. Thirty-eight semi-structured interviews were conducted with women beneficiaries of ATVET4Women, husbands of beneficiaries, women that were involved in the value chain but did not participate in ATVET4Women, and ATVET4Women trainers. Structured observations were conducted of five ATVET4Women training centers. In general, women beneficiaries and their husbands shared positive reviews of ATVET4Women in that the program increased women’s confidence in their abilities and taught women best practices for producing and selling higher quality products, generating higher incomes for women. Women noted several challenges and barriers to participate in ATVET4Women, including limited availability to travel to or partake in the trainings due to competing demands and priorities on their time, requiring their husbands’ permission to attend, and limited means to support travel to and from trainings. Related to findings around empowerment, results suggest that an empowered woman is closely tied to her ability to generate income, regardless of her decision-making autonomy, whereas an empowered man is one who generates higher incomes and is autonomous in his decision-making. A woman is expected to be submissive to her husband and defer to his decision-making, which holds implications for her ability to participate in activities outside of the household, including but not limited to ATVET4Women and similar programs. This study concludes with specific recommendations for ATVET4Women and similar programs to consider in future iterations of further programming to increase women’s empowerment in Benin.
