Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Emperor Akbar, Vol. 2: A Contribution Towards the History of India in the 16th Century The Count of Noer devoted himself till death to his Emperor Akbar. It was not granted to him to subject the second volume to a complete elaboration. As I was entrusted by the Countess of N oer with the duty of carrying out the author's design, his papers were made over to me, and also valuable pencil-notes which had been made by him in the books of the Noer library. With this guidance I believe that I have carried out the intentions of the author as far as possible. Much space has been given to extracts from the sources, or original records. The use of them is one of the great charms of the book. They are new, and as yet have been little worked, and the translations are certainly defective. But it is to be hoped that one result of this attempt will be to stir up inquirers to undertake a new handling of the origins of our information about this great his. The Downfall of Dak'hin Independence. Burhan Nizam Shah's new policy was little more than revenge for defeat at the hands of Ibrahim 'Adil Shah by alliance with Isma'il, a brother of Ibrahim who having rebelled had, in May 1591, seized the fortress of Belgam. The prelude to Ismail's revolt, as recorded by Firishtah is highly characteristic.of the powers of the Dak'hin whose dissensions made their subjection possible to Dihli. The latter was brought up with "his brother till he arrived at the age of puberty "when Dilawar Khan sent him to be kept prisoner in "the fortress of Belgam, according to the usual policy "of governments. Book The Emperor Akbar Vol 1

Download or read book The Emperor Akbar Vol 1 written by Frederick Augustus and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Emperor Akbar, Vol. 1: A Contribution Towards the History of India in the 16th Century; Translate, and in Part Revised It was after visiting Fathpur Sikri, Agrah and Sikandrah, and in presentiment of one of those lacunae in Anglo Indian life when a house is filled by memories only of its children that I resolved to add to Akbarana such unscholarly contribution as a woman might who is unversed in Arabic and Persian. While considering the materials at my command, I became aware of the existence of Graf von Noer's Kaiser Akbar and learned the story of the author's pathetic life and death. Kaiser Akbar occupied in some measure the niche I had desired to appropriate. Its translation into English appeared therefore my first safe step. In my ignorance of the process of the making of books, I had imagined translation an easy task. It has, in this instance, proved far otherwise. By reason of the untoward circumstances of Kaiser Akbar's publication - its author's failing health, his death in mid-work and its passage for completion into other hands less in touch with its matter - it has been necessary to collate the translation with the sources used by Graf von Noer. This, - though full of the personal compensation of widened acquaintance with interesting books and their authors, - has rendered my work lengthy and laborious. By this means, I have effected such amendment as might have been made in a second edition of the German text, had its author lived to perfect his work. In the majority of instances of amendment, the fact is indicated by a foot-note referring to the authority relied upon.
