Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Algebra Algebraic terms and definitions are not introduced until the student is required to put them into actual use. Correct processes are clearly set forth by carefully prepared solutions, the study of which leads the pupil to discover that method and theory follow directly from practice, and that methods are merely clear, definite, linguistic descriptions of correct processes. Book Elements of Advanced Mathematics Third Edition

Download or read book Elements of Advanced Mathematics Third Edition written by Steven G. Krantz and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2012-03-19 with total page 368 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many years, this classroom-tested, best-selling text has guided mathematics students to more advanced studies in topology, abstract algebra, and real analysis. Elements of Advanced Mathematics, Third Edition retains the content and character of previous editions while making the material more up-to-date and significant. This third edition adds four new chapters on point-set topology, theoretical computer science, the P/NP problem, and zero-knowledge proofs and RSA encryption. The topology chapter builds on the existing real analysis material. The computer science chapters connect basic set theory and logic with current hot topics in the technology sector. Presenting ideas at the cutting edge of modern cryptography and security analysis, the cryptography chapter shows students how mathematics is used in the real world and gives them the impetus for further exploration. This edition also includes more exercises sets in each chapter, expanded treatment of proofs, and new proof techniques. Continuing to bridge computationally oriented mathematics with more theoretically based mathematics, this text provides a path for students to understand the rigor, axiomatics, set theory, and proofs of mathematics. It gives them the background, tools, and skills needed in more advanced courses.

  • Pages : 208 pages

Download or read book Elements of Algebra written by John Stillwell and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 1994-08-19 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a concise, self-contained introduction to abstract algebra that stresses its unifying role in geometry and number theory. Classical results in these fields, such as the straightedge-and-compass constructions and their relation to Fermat primes, are used to motivate and illustrate algebraic techniques. Classical algebra itself is used to motivate the problem of solvability by radicals and its solution via Galois theory. This historical approach has at least two advantages: On the one hand it shows that abstract concepts have concrete roots, and on the other it demonstrates the power of new concepts to solve old problems. Algebra has a pedigree stretching back at least as far as Euclid, but today its connections with other parts of mathematics are often neglected or forgotten. By developing algebra out of classical number theory and geometry and reviving these connections, the author has made this book useful to beginners and experts alike. The lively style and clear exposition make it a pleasure to read and to learn from.

Book Elements of Set Theory

Download or read book Elements of Set Theory written by Herbert B. Enderton and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1977-05-23 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is an introductory undergraduate textbook in set theory. In mathematics these days, essentially everything is a set. Some knowledge of set theory is necessary part of the background everyone needs for further study of mathematics. It is also possible to study set theory for its own interest--it is a subject with intruiging results anout simple objects. This book starts with material that nobody can do without. There is no end to what can be learned of set theory, but here is a beginning.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Elements of Arithmetic: In Theory and Practice We have not introduced into this book the negative quantity. An early introduction of negative number gives the unskilled teacher an opportunity to make the first lessons in algebra a mere blind manipulation of symbols. Nearly all the examples in this book are new. A few of the exercises were suggested by questions given at public examinations.
