Book Electrodeposition of Chromium from Chromic Acid Solutions

Download or read book Electrodeposition of Chromium from Chromic Acid Solutions written by George Dubpernell and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrodeposition of Chromium from Chromic Acid Solutions focuses on the behavior of catalysts used in the electrodeposition of chromium from chromic acid solutions, particularly noting the characteristics, compositions, reactions, and applications of chromium. The book first offers information on the discovery of chromium by Nicolas-Louis Vauquelin, taking into consideration the experiments that he conducted to identify this metal. The manuscript then surveys the economic value of chromium deposition. Particularly given importance are the non-galling and wear resistant characteristics of chromium, enabling it to become a primary component in modern machines. The text describes the common forms of deposited chromium and catalyst balance. The differing electrochemical behaviors of cold chromium and bright chromium are discussed. The manuscript also presents information on empirical tests for catalyst concentration and bath balance and fluoride and complex fluoride catalyzed baths. The book is a vital source of data for readers wanting to explore electrodeposition of chromium from chromic acid solutions.

Book Nonaqueous Solution Chemistry

Download or read book Nonaqueous Solution Chemistry written by Orest Popovych and published by . This book was released on 1981-05-12 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the Publisher: "Kenan Malik shows that race is not a biological reality-but also why it is so useful in scientific and medical research. He claims that it is not through scientific research into human differences but through our obsession with identity and diversity that dangerous ideas about race are once more catching fire. Blaming the preservation of racial ideas on the liberal antiracist movement with its emphasis on human difference over human commonalities, Malik shows how antiracists have, in recent years, become increasingly hostile to both scientific ideas and freedom of thought." Blending politics, history, science, and philosophy, Malik explores the science of skull measurement and the politics of the Holocaust; diabetes rates among Hispanics and the fate of the Elgin Marbles; the genetics of altruism and the struggle for Aboriginal rights; the successes of Human Genome Project and the failures of multiculturalism. Confronting issues such as the link between race and intelligence, the promotion of race-specific drugs, the fashion for genealogy, and why scientific research into controversial areas should not be constrained, Malik proves that the debate about race is back-and shows us how to deal with it.

Book Intermetallic Chemistry

Download or read book Intermetallic Chemistry written by Riccardo Ferro and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-26 with total page 813 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Intermetallic science is closely related to physics, chemistry, metallurgy, materials science & technology, and engineering. This book emphasizes the chemical aspects of this science, and therefore the mutual reactivity of metals and the characteristics of intermetallic compounds. Topics included are: • Phase diagrams of alloy systems. Many intermetallic systems form several compounds, generally not obeying common simple stoichiometric rules, which are often homogeneous in a certain range of compositions. The stability and extension of these phases are conveniently presented through phase diagrams. • Selected aspects of intermetallics structural chemistry, with emphasis on the solid state. The general structural characteristics of intermetallic phases are considered, with attention to nomenclature and to alternative and complementary methods of presenting crystal-chemical data. A brief account is given of derivative and degenerate structures, modular aspects of crystal structures, and of a few special groups of alloys such as quasicrystals and amorphous alloys. A number of selected structural prototypes with typical features, their possible grouping in structural “families and their distribution among different types of alloys are provided. • Intermetallic reactivity trends in the Periodic Table. Attention is given to a few selected elemental parameters such as electron configuration and valence electron number and to their changes along the Table, which act as reference factors of the intermetallic behaviour. As an example, the relationships are considered between crystal structure and the number of valence electrons per atom (or per formula) in various classes of compounds or solid solution phases. • Alloying behaviour systematics of intermetallic systems with a description of the intermetallic reactivity of each element, or group of elements, in the order of their position in the Periodic Table. For each pair of metallic elements, their capability to form intermediate phases is summarised by maps and schemes. • A description of small scale preparation methods of intermetallics. A number of interesting and significant peculiarities are, e.g., those related to their high melting points, insolubility in common solvents, etc. · Systematic treatment of alloying behaviour · Wide overview of intermetallic chemistry · Illustrated, with many examples

  • ISBN : 0306476053
  • Pages : 812 pages

Download or read book Modern Electrochemistry 2A written by John O'M. Bockris and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-05-08 with total page 812 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book had its nucleus in some lectures given by one of us (J. O’M. B. ) in a course on electrochemistry to students of energy conversion at the University of Pennsyl- nia. It was there that he met a number of people trained in chemistry, physics, biology, metallurgy, and materials science, all of whom wanted to know something about electrochemistry. The concept of writing a book about electrochemistry which could be understood by people with very varied backgrounds was thereby engendered. The lectures were recorded and written up by Dr. Klaus Muller as a 293-page manuscript. At a later stage, A. K. N. R. joined the effort; it was decided to make a fresh start and to write a much more comprehensive text. Of methods for direct energy conversion, the electrochemical one is the most advanced and seems the most likely to become of considerable practical importance. Thus, conversion to electrochemically powered transportation systems appears to be an important step by means of which the difficulties of air pollution and the effects of an increasing concentration in the atmosphere of carbon dioxide may be met. Cor- sion is recognized as having an electrochemical basis. The synthesis of nylon now contains an important electrochemical stage. Some central biological mechanisms have been shown to take place by means of electrochemical reactions. A number of American organizations have recently recommended greatly increased activity in training and research in electrochemistry at universities in the United States.

Book Electrodeposition of Alloys

Download or read book Electrodeposition of Alloys written by Abner Brenner and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 677 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electrodeposition of Alloys: Principles and Practice, Volume II: Practical and Specific Information provides sufficient information for preparing and operating alloy plating baths. This book is organized into five sections encompassing 21 chapters that also consider the facts and theory of alloy plating. The five sections discuss the five types of alloy plating system with respect to the plating variables. Each section deals with the fundamental bases of alloy deposition, which have been summed up in six principles. This book further examines the role of diffusion in alloy deposition and the role of the density versus potential relations in alloy deposition, as well as certain misconceptions regarding their value in alloy deposition have been pointed out. This book will prove useful to electrochemists, researchers, and electrochemistry teachers and students.
