Download or read book Non surgical endodontic retreatment written by Dr. Samra Shafique and published by DENTOMED PUBLICATION HOUSE. This book was released on 2021-12-04 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is intended for the general practitioner with a special interest in endodontics, students undergoing specialist training and specialists alike. Endodontic retreatment poses many practical challenges. Advances in scientific knowledge and the integration of operating microscopes into endodontic practice have seen the possibilities for predictable endodontic treatment and retreatment expand dramatically. Advanced Endodontics: Clinical Retreatment describes many of the techniques and methods available for practitioners who wish to undertake the planning and treatment of complex endodontic retreatment. The text is referenced to provide a comprehensive but discreet source of scientific evidence, principles and further reading. Knowledge and theory are important in managing complex endodontic retreatment cases, but cannot be a substitute for essential practical and clinical experience. These skills need to be learned and practiced. Novices should always start with the simplest cases and never proceed beyond their confidence or skill level. Numerous practical courses are available for instruction on retreatment techniques and attendance on them can only be encouraged.

Download or read book Endodontic Prognosis written by Nadia Chugal and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-12-24 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book serves as a clinical guide to help the practitioner improve endodontic treatment outcomes. It focuses on the various factors affecting the prognosis of endodontic treatments and on their impact on short-term and long-term results. The text incorporates up-to-date knowledge, techniques and treatment protocols. Each chapter has been carefully chosen to address either foundational knowledge or a select aspect of endodontic treatment. The authors analyze the knowledge accumulated from a large number of outcome studies and provide the reader with a critical appraisal indicating the strengths and weaknesses of those studies. This information is then used to make recommendations on how to predict the outcome of the intended treatment. The authors emphasize that the endodontic prognosis is a multifactorial phenomenon, underscoring how various factors, singularly and in combination, influence the treatment outcome. Readers are provided with tools to successfully assess the prognosis of the proposed treatment at the outset and to execute the planned treatment focused on optimal outcome.

Book Modern Endodontic Retreatment A Systematic Review Meta analyses and Comparisons to Alternative Treatment Options

Download or read book Modern Endodontic Retreatment A Systematic Review Meta analyses and Comparisons to Alternative Treatment Options written by seyed moein seyed sadrkhani and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Statement of problem. Clinicians are regularly confronted with difficult choices. Should a tooth that has not healed through non-surgical root canal treatment be treated through traditional non-surgical retreatment, modern retreatment, or modern apical microsurgery? Acquiring complete, unbiased current information to help clinicians and their patients make these choices requires a systematic review of the literature on treatment outcomes, meta analyses and statistical comparisons. Purpose. The purpose of this paper was to answer the following questions: What are the success rates of modern endodontic retreatment in teeth that had previously received NSRCT, where periradicular pathosis had not healed? Does modern endodontic retreatment result in increased healing rates over time? Does modern endodontic retreatment result in improved outcomes to those previously established for traditional retreatment? Does modern endodontic retreatment result in improved outcomes to those previously established for modern apical surgery? Materials and methods. Searches were performed in Pubmed, Cochrane Library, and EMBASE databases on modern endodontic retreatment. Previously established datasets describing traditional endodontic retreatment and modern apical microsurgery were identified. Datasets were analyzed using funnel plots to examine bias, Forest plots to calculate weighted mean success rates and their associated confidence limits, and regression analysis to identify the simple linear equations relating percentage success rate to years of follow-up time. Results. The quality of the papers reporting on modern endodontic retreatment was high and bias was low. The success rate for modern endodontic retreatment was largely unchanged through a period from 1 to 5 years of follow-up, a steady state was approximated. The success rate of modern endodontic retreatment was approximately 86% through 1 to 5 years after treatment. The success rate of modern endodontic retreatment was significantly higher than of traditional retreatment, 81%. The success rate of modern endodontic retreatment was equivalent to that of modern apical microsurgery, 85%. Conclusions. Modern non-surgical endodontic retreatment should generally be the first-line treatment option after failure of initial non-surgical root canal treatment. Prospective, long-term modern retreatment studies of comprehensively described patient populations using a broad range of outcome measures are needed.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation, "Single-visit Versus Multiple-visit Non-surgical Endodontic Therapy" by Wai-yee, Amy, Wong, 黃慧兒, was obtained from The University of Hong Kong (Pokfulam, Hong Kong) and is being sold pursuant to Creative Commons: Attribution 3.0 Hong Kong License. Abstract: This doctorial thesis begins with a systematic review on clinical studies on single-visit and multiple-visit non-surgical endodontic treatment. The review found that neither single-visit treatment nor multiple-visit treatment could guarantee the absence of postoperative pain. Since the study design of many studies displays significant limitation, and the materials and equipment used in endodontic treatment have dramatically changed in recent years, prospective randomised clinical trials are needed to further verify the postoperative pain and success rate of single-visit versus multiple-visit endodontic treatment. This study also performed a systematic review on clinical studies on core-carrier obturation. A meta-analysis concluded that the success rate of endodontic treatment using core-carrier obturation is high (79%), and the incidence of postoperative pain is low (11%). Most teeth (87%) had adequate adaptation using core-carrier obturation material but one third of them had overfilling. A questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate the preference for single-visit and multiple-visit endodontic treatment among the 16 registered endodontists and 800 randomly selected general dentists in Hong Kong. Eight endodontists and 429 general dentists returned their questionnaires and the results found most endodontists (88%) and general dentists (93%) preferred offering multiple-visit treatments. The two commonest reasons for choosing multiple-visit treatment for both endodontists and general dentists were the positive effects of inter-appointment medications and that the tooth to be treated had doubtful prognosis. Three randomised clinical trials were performed in this study at two clinics, one in The University of Hong Kong (HKU) in Hong Kong and the other in Peking University (PKU) in Beijing. The first clinical trial compared the time in performing non-surgical endodontic therapy with or without the use of a magnifying loupe. Ninety-six teeth were treated with a magnifying loupe and 86 teeth were treated without a magnifying loupe. The results found the use of a magnifying loupe could significantly reduce the endodontic treatment time. The results also showed that treatment time was associated with preoperative pain, number of root canal, number of treatment visit, experience of operator and site of treatment (HKU or PKU); but not associated with age, gender, tooth vitality, or the presence of apical radiolucency or sinus tract. The second clinical trial compared the incidence of post-obturation pain at one and seven days after single-visit and multiple-visit non-surgical endodontic treatment. A total of 538 teeth from patients attending were evaluated. The result found single-visit or multiple-visit endodontic treatment had no difference in their incidence of postoperative pain, which was not uncommon after one day (29%) but was infrequent (5%) after seven days. The third clinical trial was performed at HKU clinic to compare the success rate, prevalence of postoperative pain and chairside time of single-visit and multiple-visit endodontic treatment. A total of 220 teeth were followed up for at least 18 months. The average follow-up period was 29 months. The results found that the success rate and prevalence of postoperative pain of single-visit or multiple-visit treatment had no significant difference. The chairside time for single-visit treatment was shorter than multiple-visit treatment.

Book Network Meta Analysis for Decision Making

Download or read book Network Meta Analysis for Decision Making written by Sofia Dias and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2018-03-19 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A practical guide to network meta-analysis with examples and code In the evaluation of healthcare, rigorous methods of quantitative assessment are necessary to establish which interventions are effective and cost-effective. Often a single study will not provide the answers and it is desirable to synthesise evidence from multiple sources, usually randomised controlled trials. This book takes an approach to evidence synthesis that is specifically intended for decision making when there are two or more treatment alternatives being evaluated, and assumes that the purpose of every synthesis is to answer the question "for this pre-identified population of patients, which treatment is 'best'?" A comprehensive, coherent framework for network meta-analysis (mixed treatment comparisons) is adopted and estimated using Bayesian Markov Chain Monte Carlo methods implemented in the freely available software WinBUGS. Each chapter contains worked examples, exercises, solutions and code that may be adapted by readers to apply to their own analyses. This book can be used as an introduction to evidence synthesis and network meta-analysis, its key properties and policy implications. Examples and advanced methods are also presented for the more experienced reader. Methods used throughout this book can be applied consistently: model critique and checking for evidence consistency are emphasised. Methods are based on technical support documents produced for NICE Decision Support Unit, which support the NICE Methods of Technology Appraisal. Code presented is also the basis for the code used by the ISPOR Task Force on Indirect Comparisons. Includes extensive carefully worked examples, with thorough explanations of how to set out data for use in WinBUGS and how to interpret the output. Network Meta-Analysis for Decision Making will be of interest to decision makers, medical statisticians, health economists, and anyone involved in Health Technology Assessment including the pharmaceutical industry.
