Book The Influence of Structural Elasticity on the Stability of Airplanes and Multi stages Missiles

Download or read book The Influence of Structural Elasticity on the Stability of Airplanes and Multi stages Missiles written by Luther T. Prince and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This provides root locus method for examining the influence of structural coupling on the stability of uncontrolled airplanes. The graphical technique permits a rapid but accurate quantitative evaluation of the effects of changes in aeroelastic and aerodynamic characteristics on airplane stability. Specific examples will illustrate the utility of the method. Problems involved in integrating a flexible vehicle into an automatic flight control system are also discussed. The similarity of the problem as it exists in manned airplanes and multi-stage missiles is presented. Examples are shown which illustrate the conventional (linear control) design approach to this problem. A promsing new approach utilizing adaptive (non-linear control) techniques is also presented. This book was released on 2003-03-14 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Organized by the International Association for Structural Control(IASC), and sponsored by the European Association for the Controlof Structures (EACS), the recent world conference on structuralcontrol (3WCSC) brought together engineers, scientists, architects, builders and other practitioners interested in the general fieldsof active, hybrid and passive vibration control, health monitoringand damage detection, intelligent/smart materials and systems.Applications included buildings, bridges, space structures andcivil infrastructures under the action of dynamic environments(earthquake, wind, traffic...) and man-made loads. It provideda valuable forum for the discussion of the most pressing concernsin structural control and its related topics. The conference covered a wide range of topics including activeand semi-active control devices, passive control devices, controlalgorithms for linear and non-linear systems, modeling andidentification of structural systems, sensors, health monitoringand damage detection, benchmark test of building and bridges, innovative materials for structural control, applications toaerospace structures, applications to bridges, applications tocritical structures, external dynamic force characteristics andcontrollability issues, implications of severe ground motions, windforces, codes for structural control, and so forth. Suchcomprehensive treatment of the most innovative developments instructural control will make these volumes an informative referencefor all researchers and engineers interested in this area. Proceedings of the US - Europe Workshop On Sensors andSmart Structures Technology Como and Somma Lombardo, Italy In the last few years, significant progress has been made in thearea of sensing technology and structural healthmonitoring/condition assessment in the US and Europe. Innovativeconcepts involving new hardware, algorithms, and software have beenproposed. There have also been several full-scale trialimplementations of densely sensor-instrumented infrastructures andhealth monitoring systems, as well as case studies on bridges inEurope and in the US. Much can be learnt through US/European collaboration in the areaof experimental verification on small, medium, large and full-scaleprojects. Moreover, a common framework for expanded future jointresearch can be developed on the increased understanding achievedthrough mutual learning. This workshop consisted of seminar sessions on several themeswhich included innovative sensing hardware, advances in wirelesstechnology, and damage detection/characterization and conditionassessment methodologies. In addition, there were several workshopsessions devoted to summarizing the status of the sensors and smartstructures technologies in these topics, identifying the compellingresearch issues, and formulating an action plan withrecommendations for development and implementation through possiblecollaborative research projects and sharing of scientific data.

Book Active Aeroelastic Aircraft and Its Impact on Structure and Flight Control Systems Design

Download or read book Active Aeroelastic Aircraft and Its Impact on Structure and Flight Control Systems Design written by Johannes Schweiger and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 8 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Active aeroelastic concepts have been proposed for several years now. Their common incentive are improvements of aircraft performance and stability by the intentional use of aeroelastic effects. This means that the basic flexibility characteristics of a new aircraft project must be included in the early conceptual design process, and the structural and flight control system design must be coupled very closely. The knowledge about the magnitude of aeroelastic impacts on aerodynamic forces and aircraft stability is still very limited within the community of people involved in aeronautical engineering - even among the specialists in aeroelasticity. For a successful application of active aeroelastic concepts, their proper identification is therefore the first step. It will be shown for some selected examples, which static aeroelastic effects are usually very important for conventional designs, and how they can be made even more effective in a positive sense for future designs. The accuracy and proper use of aeroelastic prediction methods and analysis models is addressed briefly in the context of interactions with other disciplines, and ideas are developed for the multi-disciplinary design process of active aeroelastic aircraft concepts. Whereas static aeroelastic effects usually only become important with increasing airspeed, a concept will be demonstrated for aeroelastic improvements, which also works at low speeds.

Book Topics on Flexible Airplane Dynamics The application of flexible airframe transfer function approximations and the sensitivity of airframe transfer functions to elastic mode shapes

Download or read book Topics on Flexible Airplane Dynamics The application of flexible airframe transfer function approximations and the sensitivity of airframe transfer functions to elastic mode shapes written by and published by . This book was released on 1963 with total page 62 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: pt.3: The dynamic coupling of rigid and elastic degrees of freedom of an airplane are described by two methods. In the first, coupling is described by the changes in airframe characteristic equation roots caused by the introduction of coupling terms to the equations of motion. The second method employs modal response coefficients to compare the relative amplitudes of rigid and elastic degrees of freedom at each coupled mode frequency. Simple literal expressions are obtained for each of these descriptors and physical interpretations given. Time vector diagrams are also used to show the major parameters affecting coupling. Book Creep Deformation Patterns of Joints Under Bearing and Tensile Loads

Download or read book Creep Deformation Patterns of Joints Under Bearing and Tensile Loads written by E. G. Bodine and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 668 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the present investigation was to study the interaction of bearing and tensile loads on the creep behavior of joints. To achieve this objective, a simplified model was employed which contained many of the features found in riveted connections. Through the use of this simulated joint, an analysis of complex regions in actual joints could be effected. In the study, results for a number of tensile-to-bearing load ratios were obtained, and the results were analyzed.
