Book Orthodontic Diagnosis

Download or read book Orthodontic Diagnosis written by Thomas Rakosi and published by Thieme. This book was released on 1993 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An illustrated guide for the complex process of orthodontic diagnostics and indication. The total process of treatment planning including the scientific bases is pictorially described. Beside the conventional methods of examination and model analysis, emphasis is placed on the cranio-facial growth processes, the aetiology of malocclusions and on the importance of functional analysis. The following three aspects are described in detail in this book: Growth of the Facial Skeleton - types of treatment which promote or guide growth. In order to control these natural processes artificially, a precise understanding of them is required. Aetiology of the Malocclusion - the various types of causative therapy and the elimination of the causes. Functional Analysis - many malocclusions are a result of dysfunctions. As a variety of methods are available for treating dysfunctions, functional analysis is taken very seriously.

Book Effects of Rapid Maxillary Expansion on Upper Airway

Download or read book Effects of Rapid Maxillary Expansion on Upper Airway written by Yoon Hwan Chang and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to use cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to assess changes in the volume and cross sectional areas of the upper airway in children with maxillary constriction treated by rapid maxillary expansion (RME). The study group consisted of 5 males and 9 females with mean age of 12.93 years with posterior cross bite and constricted maxilla who were treated with hyrax expander as part of their comprehensive orthodontic treatment. Pre and post RME CBCT scans were analyzed with 3D Dolphin 11.0 software to measure the retropalatal (RP) and retroglossal (RG) airway changes including volume and cross sectional areas. The transverse width changes were evaluated from the maxillary inter 1st molar and inter 1st pre molar mid lingual alveolar plate points. Pre and post RME scans were compared with paired t test and Pearson correlation test was done on data reaching significance. Only the cross sectional airway measured at posterior nasal spine (PNS) to Basion (Ba) level showed a statistically significant increase (P=0.0004). The minimal cross sectional area (MCA) was always found within the RP airway. The inter-molar and inter-premolar mid lingual alveolar plate distances increased equally by 4.76 mm and were statistically significant (P

Book Assessment of the Magnitude and Asymmetry of Micro Implant Assisted Rapid Maxillary Expansion

Download or read book Assessment of the Magnitude and Asymmetry of Micro Implant Assisted Rapid Maxillary Expansion written by Islam Elkenawy and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 50 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Micro-implant assisted rapid palatal expander such as the Maxillary Skeletal Expander (MSE) have been utilized to achieve skeletal expansion as an alternative to surgically assisted expansion with some success. Previous studies show significant effects on the mid-face, including a degree of asymmetry. The aim of this study is to quantify the magnitude, parallelism, and asymmetry of expansion in non-growing patients and to explore possible factors that can predict the pattern of asymmetry of expansion. We examined orthodontic non-growing patients (n=31) with an average age of 20.4 years old, with Cone Beam Computed Tomography (CBCT) images taken before and right after expansion using MSE. Those images were superimposed, and expansion was analyzed utilizing the Mid-Sagittal Plane (MSP) as a reference plane. Average magnitude of total expansion was 5 mm at the Anterior Nasal Spine (ANS), and 4.77 mm at the Posterior Nasal Spine (PNS) which showed statistical significance using a paired t-test with p

Download or read book Pediatric Dentistry E Book written by Paul S. Casamassimo and published by Elsevier Health Sciences. This book was released on 2013-11-28 with total page 648 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now in full color, this text uses a unique age-specific organization to discuss all aspects of pediatric dentistry from infancy through adolescence. Each age-specific section covers the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social changes that children experience, as well as the epidemiology of dental disease at that age. Other chapters explore the examination, treatment planning, radiographic concerns, prevention, trauma, restorative dentistry, pulp therapy, orthodontics, and behavior management of each age range. Unique organization begins with an introduction to the basic information and topics pertinent to children of all ages, then divides up the rest of the text by age group to cover the specific changes the child experiences physically, cognitively, emotionally, and socially. In most cases, particular dental issues are discussed only once, at the point in a child’s development at which they are most appropriate. Section on children from conception to age three covers conditions such as cleft palate, disturbances in calcification, unusual numbers of teeth, oral habits, caries, and the development of malocclusions that start during these years. Chapter on aesthetic restorative dentistry for the adolescent looks at material selection, tooth color and form, diastemas, discolored teeth, bleaching and more. Chapter on sport dentistry and mouth protection covers how to evaluate child/adolescent athletes, the different types of mouth protection available, and professional activities in sports dentistry. Chapter on the diagnosis of oral lesions and developmental anomalies uses tables and extensive illustrations to depict developmental anomalies, white soft tissue lesions and enlargements, dark soft tissue lesions, ulcerative lesions, radiolucent lesions of bone, mixed radiolucent and radiopaque lesions of bone. NEW! Full-color design creates an immediate visual impact and better illustrates concepts and dental conditions.
