This book was released on 2009-06-20 with total page 358 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Franziska König examines the anatomy of uncertainty-governance choice relationships from different theoretical angles, including transaction costs economics, resource-based theory, and real options theory. Book The Impact of Price Uncertainty

Download or read book The Impact of Price Uncertainty written by Donald V. Coes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-04-21 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1979. This book addresses three questions regarding uncertainty in economic life: how do we define uncertainty and use the concept meaningfully to provide conclusions; how can the level of uncertainty associated with a particular variable of economic interest be measured; and does experience provide any support for the view that uncertainty really matters. It develops a theory of the effect of price uncertainty on production and trade, takes a graphical approach to look at effects of a mean preserving spread to create rules for ordering distributions, and finishes with an econometric analysis of the effects of Brazil’s adoption of a crawling peg in reducing real exchange rate uncertainty. This is an important early study into the significance of uncertainty.

Book Understanding Development

Download or read book Understanding Development written by Swapnendu Banerjee and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-09-08 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book addresses topical development issues in India, ranging from land acquisition, poverty alleviation programs, labor market issues, the public-private partnership (PPP) model and fiscal federalism. It offers an Indian perspective on the dynamics of economic development and the impact the country’s legal and public policies have on it. Economic development is a dynamic concept – old problems are solved, while at the same time new issues come to the fore. The emergence of these issues is unique to the development experience of an economy. The book includes sixteen recent contributions and is divided into four sections: law and contract; trade and foreign aid; issues in public economics; and the social sector and poverty alleviation. The chapters reflect on a number of development issues which were of concern for India in the recent past and will be important in her future development initiatives such as land acquisition, agricultural productivity, employment, protection of intellectual property rights, corruption, public-private partnership, regional development, poverty alleviations programs like the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) and the training of self-help group members, health and education of women, to name a few. The book is a valuable reference resource for policy practitioners and researchers working on the economics of development with special focus on developing economies.

Book The New Investment Theory of Real Options and its Implication for Telecommunications Economics

Download or read book The New Investment Theory of Real Options and its Implication for Telecommunications Economics written by James J. Alleman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2007-08-19 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Randall B, Lowe Piper & Marbury, L.L.R The issue of costing and pricing in the telecommunications industry has been hotly debated for the last twenty years. Indeed, we are still wrestling today over the cost of the local exchange for access by interexchange and competitive local ex change carriers, as well as for universal service funding. The U.S. telecommunications world was a simple one before the emergence of competition, comprising only AT&T and independent local exchange carriers. Costs were allocated between intrastate and interstate jurisdictions and then again, between intrastate local and toll. The Bell System then divided those costs among itself (using a process referred to as the division of revenues) and independents (using a process called settlements). Tolls subsidized local calls to keep the politi cians happy, and the firm, as a whole, covered its costs and made a fair return. State regulators, however, lacked the wherewithal to audit this process. Their con cerns centered generally on whether local rates, irrespective of costs, were at a po litically acceptable level. Although federal regulators were better able to determine the reasonableness of the process and the resulting costs, they adopted an approach of "continuous surveillance" where, like the state regulator, the appearance of rea sonableness was what mattered. With the advent of competition, this historical costing predicate had to change. The Bell System, as well as the independents, were suddenly held accountable.
