Book The Effects of Powder Metallurgical Processing and Intermediate Thermal Mechanical Treatment on the Fatigue Properties of High Strength Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book The Effects of Powder Metallurgical Processing and Intermediate Thermal Mechanical Treatment on the Fatigue Properties of High Strength Aluminum Alloys written by Victor Kuo and published by . This book was released on 1983 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of advanced metallurgical processing techniques, e.g., intermediate thermomechanical treatment (ITMT) and powder metallurgy (P/M), has produced a recrystallized X7091 P/M alloy having fine grain and particle structures and weak texture with the best overall mechanical properties compared to those of ingot metallurgical and conventional P/M alloys. The dependence of mechanical properties on grain size and particle distribution has been demonstrated among these alloys. The study of the effect of the last microstructural feature, crystallographic texture, is necessary for further property improvement through texture control.

Book Effects of Process Variables on the Mechanical and Physical Properties of an Al Cu Mg Powder Metallurgy Alloy

Download or read book Effects of Process Variables on the Mechanical and Physical Properties of an Al Cu Mg Powder Metallurgy Alloy written by Bryce David Christensen and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The applications of aluminum powder metallurgy (PM) alloys require precise control of final mechanical properties. The final properties of an alloy are dictated by the processing steps performed during production. The goal of this research was to analyze the effects process variables have on the properties of Al-2.3Cu-1.5Mg-0.5Sn. Specifically, the impact of heat treatment and sizing on the tensile and fatigue properties was investigated. Three variations in heat treatment were explored, each in the sized and not-sized condition: naturally aged (T1/T2) , artificially aged (T6/T8), and solutionized-naturally aged (T4/T3). Uniaxial tensile testing was done to determine yield strength and ductility. 3-point bend fatigue using the staircase method was used to determine fatigue strength. For all heat treatments, sizing increased yield strength, but decreased ductility and fatigue strength. The T8 heat treatment resulted in the highest yield strength (325 MPa), but also the lowest fatigue strength (109 MPa). The T4 heat treatment resulted in the highest ductility (14%). Sizing decreased fatigue strength by up to 31% in the artificially aged samples. Delay time between sintering and sizing was investigated and no significant impact was seen in mechanical properties by increasing delay time. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) was used to determine if sizing impacted precipitate development. It was determined that the precipitation sequence of the S-type (Al2CuMg) was influenced by sizing. Through the DSC data it was inferred that there was a preferential tendency for S1-type precipitates to form in sized samples, supressing full aging to S2-type. This would have altered the mechanical performance of the alloy.

Book excerpt: NSA is a comprehensive collection of international nuclear science and technology literature for the period 1948 through 1976, pre-dating the prestigious INIS database, which began in 1970. NSA existed as a printed product (Volumes 1-33) initially, created by DOE's predecessor, the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission (AEC). NSA includes citations to scientific and technical reports from the AEC, the U.S. Energy Research and Development Administration and its contractors, plus other agencies and international organizations, universities, and industrial and research organizations. References to books, conference proceedings, papers, patents, dissertations, engineering drawings, and journal articles from worldwide sources are also included. Abstracts and full text are provided if available.

Book Properties of Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Properties of Aluminum Alloys written by John Gilbert Kaufman and published by ASM International. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 569 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A compilation of data collected and maintained for many years as the property of a large aluminum company, which decided in 1997 to make it available to other engineers and materials specialists. In tabular form, presents data on the tensile and creep properties of eight species of wrought alloys and five species of cast alloys in the various shapes used in applications. Then looks at the fatigue data for several alloys under a range of conditions and loads. The data represent the typical or average findings, and though some were developed years ago, the collection is the largest and most detailed available. There is no index.
