Book Effects of Student Nutrition on Academic Performance

Download or read book Effects of Student Nutrition on Academic Performance written by Anna Malki and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research looks as the influence student nutrition has on academic performance. More specifically, how food insecurity, and school food consumption impacts grade point average. The data for the research was collected from an in person survey and an online student database. The data was then synthesized together, creating one holistic database. From that database I was able to them run an ordinary least square regression analysis. The findings revealed that for each increment a student got closer to being food insecure on the survey, their grade point average went down by.12 points. Additionally, students that are consuming two meals a day at school, breakfast and lunch, have grade point average that is .139 points lower than students who don't, and students who feel it is important to choose healthy food have a grade point average that is .629 points higher than students that don't. The conclusions of this research defines that educators need a better system to access more nutritious food on campus. Through new policy and program implementation, educators can eliminate the lack of nutrition as a hindrance in academics.

Book Factors affecting nutrition of students and effects of nutrition in educational attainment

Download or read book Factors affecting nutrition of students and effects of nutrition in educational attainment written by Elizia Liauw and published by GRIN Verlag. This book was released on 2015-09-24 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Akademische Arbeit aus dem Jahr 2015 im Fachbereich Gesundheit - Ernährungswissenschaft, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper aims to determine the factors contributing to future generation’s educational attainment. It assesses the effectiveness of doing a school-feeding program in increasing school enrollment in the area of Cilincing. This paper attempts to answer the question of: What are the factors affecting nutrition of student in Sekolah Bambu, Cilincing and how is nutrition affecting educational attainment. In the investigation of this question, both qualitative and quantitative data were collected from primary resources. The quantitative data is gained from measuring BMI of 100 random kids, both boys and girls, between the ages of 7 years old to 12 years old. Qualitative data is also obtained through in depth interviews with 10 random families. Both qualitative and quantitative data is gathered from the area around Sekolah Bambu, Cilincing. This paper arrives at the conclusion that the biggest factor that holds children in Cilincing back from getting sufficient nutrition is essentially because of lack of women empowerment, which could eventually affects educational attainment. Lack of nutrition to an extent does play a role in educational attainment. However, it does not play a big role in determining the number of children that go to school (quantity). It plays a much bigger role in the quality of how students are performing in school, as consuming sufficient nutrients leads to better concentration and cognition. In order to resolve the lack of education for future generations in Cilincing, we must then go to the root of the problem, which is essentially women empowerment.

Book Nutrition and Academic Achievement

Download or read book Nutrition and Academic Achievement written by Henry Ssali and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The University of Toronto (U of T) is referred to as a "city within a city". This maxim is meant to imply that the University of Toronto epitomises all the characteristics of the City of Toronto which is commonly portrayed as 'the most diverse urban centres of the world'. But how diverse is the University of Toronto and how effective are the university's diversity and inclusion policies? This thesis draws from a Culturally Sensitive Nutritional Framework (CSNF) to examine the extent to which African international students are excluded from the food-choices offered by the University of Toronto food-service providers and how such unintended actions affect those students' academic success and overall life experience at the university. Using oral-interviews, in-depth review of the literature, secondary sources, websites, as well as reviewing U of T's nutrition protocols and the university's Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) policies, I examined three related questions. (1) What are the current U of T EDI policies and nutrition practices, operating systems, rules and regulations? (2) How sensitive are these strategies, schemes and codes to the nutritional needs of African international students? (3) What are the programming shortcomings in these policies, operating principles, practices, rules and regulations and how can they be addressed? More specifically, the aim of this research was twofold. First, to evaluate the extent to which these protocols enhance the academic performance of African international students at the St. George Campus; and second, to provide suggestions on how these protocols could be further enriched to better serve the interests of African international students. The goal was to analyze effects of these protocols at the University of Toronto St. George campus and evaluate their potential relevance to the well-being of African international students. I argued that high-academic achievement is possible if the University of Toronto provides culturally sensitive nutritional choices to all international students and specifically African international students. The findings indicated diverse perceptions of nutritional needs and consequences for African international students. There were also evidence of implicit gaps among existing nutrition protocols and inclusion policies. Four recommendations are suggested to bridge existing gaps to ensure all international students are offered justifiable opportunities to enjoy thriving lives during their academic careers at the University of Toronto.
