Book Aptitude Learning and Instruction

Download or read book Aptitude Learning and Instruction written by Richard E. Snow and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2021-05-30 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For the previous 6 years before publication, Office of Naval Research (ONR) had been conducting a thematically oriented contract research program aimed, in large part, at developing the kind of broad theoretical framework necessary for a workable process interpretation of aptitude, learning, and performance. Originally published in 1980, the papers in this collection are generally addressed to three broad areas that were central to those interests of the ONR Personnel and Training Research Programs. One area is concerned with individual differences information processing, as revealed in simple laboratory or psychometric tests. The second area focuses on the structural aspects of learning and performance, using tools and concepts from semantic memory theory to describe what is learned and how it is learned. And the third area is aimed at the management of instruction: It addresses itself to the kinds of research and instructional designs required for effective implementation of adaptive instruction.

Book A Mediation Model for Paired associate Learning

Download or read book A Mediation Model for Paired associate Learning written by SLATER E. NEWMAN and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 1 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A model to explain how paired-associates get learned has been presented. It was proposed that paired-associate learning may involve as many as five interdependent processes corresponding to stimulus-term discrimination, response-term discrimination, response learning (for stimulus terms as well as for response terms), and an association stage. The model appears to be useful in interpreting data from studies dealing with the effects of context elements, of stimulus-term and response-term familiarization, of stimulus-term and responseterm pronunciability, of terms with double function, and of the greater S-R than R-S strength following paired-associate learning. Some further implications of the model for paired-associate learning, serial learning, and transfer experiments were discussed and the need for additional study of mediating responses was emphasized. Book Psychological Foundations of Education

Download or read book Psychological Foundations of Education written by B. Claude Mathis and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 2013-09-17 with total page 797 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychological Foundations of Education presents some of the principles of psychology that are relevant to learning and teaching. It presents an alternative answer to the problem of the bifurcation of general and educational psychology in the curriculum of teacher preparation. While the solution is provisional and has obvious imperfections, it is offered in the hope that it may stimulate discussion of the problem and other solutions and/or explicit justifications for past practice. Key concepts discussed include teachers’ attitudes and behavior, different types of learning, technology in education, forgetting and extinction, child development, and intelligence measurements. Also covered are the assessment of educational achievement, the social psychology of the classroom, and education in urban schools. This text should have a variety of uses in classes where students are preparing for teaching. It was written specifically for those situations in which the prospective teacher is introduced to psychology through a one- or two-semester integrated sequence.

Book Imagery and Verbal Processes

Download or read book Imagery and Verbal Processes written by A. Paivio and published by Psychology Press. This book was released on 2013-11-26 with total page 609 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1978. In this book the author has attempted to present a systematic theoretical and factual account of the role of higher mental processes in human learning and memory, and certain aspects of the psychology of perception and language. The major orienting theme of the book is its dual emphasis on nonverbal imagery and verbal processes (inner speech) as memory codes and mediators of behavior. Based on recent experimental evidence, the conceptual approach in a sense represents an integration of pre-behavioristic and behavioristic views concerning the nature of thought. The book is intended both as a textbook and as a theoretical monograph.
