Book excerpt: "The purpose of this study was to compare two modes of strength training and their effects on explosive leg power measured by the vertical jump. Two groups were used in the study. Group 1 trained using a combination of squats and power cleans. Group 2 trained using a combination of squats and plyometric depth jumps. The weight training protocol was a six-week cycle that varied the repetitions and load percentage of one-repetition maximum. The plyometric protocol was a five-week cycle of 10 repetitions with an increasing number of sets. A pretest was administered to all subjects before the training program and a posttest was given following the conclusion of the sixth week.
