Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Models of Herbicide Mangroves and War in Vietnam

Download or read book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Models of Herbicide Mangroves and War in Vietnam written by Howard T. Odum and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report develops data models and simulation of herbicide, mangroves, and the relative role of these in the overall energy system of Viet Nam at war. Simulations of two simplified models of Viet Nam as a whole suggest a pulse of overall war disruption followed by a stimulated recovery, the energy loss during a 20 year period being about 1%. Perspective from comparing energy flows showed an impact of herbicide as 2% of the energy budget of Viet Nam in years of spraying, a greater effect than the rest of the war's disruption.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers The Effects of Herbicides on the Mangrove of South Vietnam

Download or read book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers The Effects of Herbicides on the Mangrove of South Vietnam written by Philip Ross and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 35 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mangrove forests occur in the tidal zone of most low alluvial coasts and along the saltwater estuaries of streams and rivers in the tropics. In South Vietnam (SVN) they form an extensive vegetative cover on sediments in salt and brackish water. They hold a place of some importance in the country's economy because of the number of products obtained from them. They also provide a breeding place for birds, wild animals, and fish, and produce organic materials that are utilized as food by offshore marine life. The fact that many of these mangrove stands have been managed is important in understanding the effects of defoliation. Such stands tend to be dominated by plants of one species and of a similar age, and consequently a herbicide application tends to affect the individual trees in a uniform manner.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Epidemiological Ecological Effects Studies on Intact and Deforested Mangrove Ecosystems

Download or read book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Epidemiological Ecological Effects Studies on Intact and Deforested Mangrove Ecosystems written by Robert S. Desowitz and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of the study was to determine whether the ecological effects of herbicides have resulted in altered epidemiological patterns, particularly with respect to vector-borne infectious diseases. The premise that such epidemiological alterations may occur is based on the hypothesis that the changed ecological settings could provide suitable new breeding habitats for arthropod vectors and rodent reservoirs of these infections.

De Sylva and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 128 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report is a summary of biological and hydrological collections made in the tropical mangrove ecosystem of South Vietnam. An evaluation is made of the interrelationships of the food web within the ecosystem in the defoliated and nondefoliated areas.

This book was released on 1974 with total page 13 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An air-photo inventory of the Rung-Sat was undertaken to determine what broad categories of land cover comprised this area before and after spraying, in order to provide some indication of the gross changes resulting from herbicide application.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Persistence and Disappearance of Herbicides in Tropical Soils

Download or read book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Persistence and Disappearance of Herbicides in Tropical Soils written by Geoffrey E. Blackman and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 61 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A very obvious and legitimate question poses itself when an extraneous material has been introduced into the environment: How long will this material persist, or how fast will it disappear. For the military herbicide operations in South Vietnam this question is particularly obvious and urgent. Herbicides have been used in those operations at levels roughly five to ten times higher than in normal agricultural practices. The report includes herbicide determinations in soils and water supplies at different locations.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers The Location of Herbicide Missions and Hickey s Informants in South Vietnam An Appraisal

Carrier and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 17 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The report presents the available data on herbicide missions carried out in the vicinity of the villages of Highlanders used by Hickey as informants for a paper on the perceived effects of herbicides in the highlands of South Vietnam (SVN). Some comments on mission objectives and support contained in herbicide proposals submitted by RVN province chiefs and in memoranda submitted by various U.S. officials are also presented.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Perceived Effects of Herbicides Used in the Highlands of South Vietnam

This book was released on 1974 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objectives of the research were threefold. First, an effort was made to determine whether highland villagers in affected areas had actually observed aircraft spraying herbicide. Second, an effort was made to probe into the Highlanders' perception of what happened following the spraying. Third, the inquiry was directed at the villagers' evaluation of the effect of the spraying--whether they saw any relationship between the herbicide and some or all of the perceived changes.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Tters Nam Part B Working Papers Mollusks as Indicators of the Effects of Herbicides on Mangroves in South Vietnam

Download or read book The Effects of Herbicides in South Tters Nam Part B Working Papers Mollusks as Indicators of the Effects of Herbicides on Mangroves in South Vietnam written by George M. Davis and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of the report is to assess the effects of the defoliants on the Rung-Sat four years after cessation of spraying and to determine the long-term consequences of the defoliation program in that area. The molluscan fauna of the Rung-Sat-Vung-Tau area is discussed in terms of number of species, diversity of fauna, and faunal ecology. The diversity of Southeast Asian mangrove mollusks relative to numerous types of ecological niches makes this group of organisms particularly valuable for studying the effects of any type of alteration of the natural mangrove.

Book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Studies of the Inland Forests of South Vietnam and the Effects of Herbicides Upon Those Forests

Download or read book The Effects of Herbicides in South Vietnam Part B Working Papers Studies of the Inland Forests of South Vietnam and the Effects of Herbicides Upon Those Forests written by James S. Bethel and published by . This book was released on 1974 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.
