Book Predicting the Effects of Freezing and Thawing on Pavement Support

Download or read book Predicting the Effects of Freezing and Thawing on Pavement Support written by Craig H. Benson and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The objective of this study was to develop a method to predict the timing of weight limits on secondary highways in Wisconsin. Two types of weight limits are of interest: overloads when the pavement is frozen and weight restrictions during thawing and post-thawing recovery period. To meet this objective, three sections of secondary highways with flexible pavements were instrumented and monitored to determine how freezing, thawing, and post-thaw recovery affect pavement stiffness. Data collected from these sites were used to develop a computer model (UWFrost) that can be used to predict seasonal changes in the support capacity of pavements.

Book Freeze Thaw Durability of Concrete

Download or read book Freeze Thaw Durability of Concrete written by J. Marchand and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-03-01 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Concrete durability in climates where freezing and thawing occurs is a continuing problem. It is particularly acute for highway and bridge structures, where de-icing salts are used to combat the effects of frost, snow and ice. These salts can cause damage to concrete and accelerate corrosion of reinforcements. This book presents the latest international research on this area, with contributions from North America and Europe which were presented at an international RILEM workshop.

Book Comparison of the Performance of All bituminous Concrete and Reduced Subgrade Strength Highway Pavement Test Sections Under Freezing Conditions

Download or read book Comparison of the Performance of All bituminous Concrete and Reduced Subgrade Strength Highway Pavement Test Sections Under Freezing Conditions written by Robert A. Eaton and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 44 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Four highway pavement test sections were built at CRREL in July 1971. Two sections were designed using the Asphalt Institute full-depth criteria in which the pavement is placed directly upon the subgrade with no granular base course, and the other two were based on similar traffic volumes using the Corps of Engineers reduced subgrade strength criteria which incorporate a granular base course. The sections were constructed to compare and evaluate the performance of the two different concepts under freeze-thaw conditions. The first three years' observations are reported.

Book Guide to Cement treated Base CTB

Download or read book Guide to Cement treated Base CTB written by Gregory E. Halsted and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 20 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cement-treated base (CTB) is a general term that applies to an mixture of native soils and/or manufactured aggregates with measured amounts of portland cement and water that is compacted and cured to form a strong, durable, frost resistant paving material. Other descriptions such as soil-cement base, cement-treated aggregate base, cement-stabilized base are sometimes used. This document provides a basic guide on the use of cement-treated base (CTB) for pavement applications. This document provides on overview on the design and construction of CTB for both mixed-in-place and central plant mixed operations. A suggested construction specification is also included.
