Book Coated and Uncoated Nickel titanium Archwires

Download or read book Coated and Uncoated Nickel titanium Archwires written by Loveland, Kelcey Loveland and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 53 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of exposure to bracket-related load deflection on the mechanical properties and surface characteristics of esthetic coated and uncoated nickel titanium archwires. Two types of coated archwires were tested: one with a rhodium ion coating and another with a polymer coating. Corresponding uncoated wires of the same size were also tested. These four different wires were divided into treatment groups based on exposure to bracket-related load deflection and storage in PBS at 37±1°C. A three-point bend test in DI water at 37±1°C was performed on specimens at three time points: 4 weeks, 8 weeks, and 12 weeks. Unloading forces at 1, 2, and 3 mm of deflection were recorded. After 12 weeks exposure, three representative specimens from each treatment group along with untested wires were viewed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to provide a qualitative surface topography analysis. Results of the present study showed that no significant differences (p > 0.05) in unloading force were present in wires exposed to bracket-related load deflection. However, significant differences were observed between coated and uncoated wire types (p

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Orthodontic Applications of Biomaterials: A Clinical Guide reviews the applications of biomaterials and their effects on enamel preparation, bonding, bracket and archwire ligation, mechanotherapy, debonding, and long-term enamel structural, color, and surface effects. The book provides a step-by-step analysis of the phenomena occurring, their clinical importance, and their underlying cause without the use of complex mathematical or physical-chemical analyses, with the goal of providing 'digestible' evidence for the clinician. - Serves as a reference source of the spectrum of biomaterials used in orthodontics - Presents the most current evidence of state-of-the-art methods of materials research - Provides substantiation for the effects occurring during the materials' uses

Book The Effect of Simulated Oral Conditions on Surface Roughness and Friction Properties of Surface treated and Non surface Treated Nickel Titanium Archwires

Download or read book The Effect of Simulated Oral Conditions on Surface Roughness and Friction Properties of Surface treated and Non surface Treated Nickel Titanium Archwires written by Mary Becker and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page 71 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of simulated oral conditions (storage in phosphate-buffered saline (PBS) with bracket-related load deflection at 37±1°C for 12 weeks) on surface-treated and non-surface treated NiTi archwires. Three types of NiTi wires were tested: non-coated NiTi wire, nitrogen-treated NiTi wire, and rhodium-coated NiTi wire. Wire segments from each NiTi wire type underwent surface roughness measurements and friction testing in the as-received condition (control group) and following exposure to a simulated oral environment for 12 weeks (experimental treatment group). A profilometer was used to measure average roughness in three areas of each wire segment. After profilometry, a universal mechanical tester was used for friction testing. Each wire segment was pulled through a bracket in a passive configuration for 5 mm and the minimum, maximum, and mean of the top 10% of the load was calculated. Three representative specimens from each NiTi wire type in each condition were viewed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to provide qualitative surface topography analysis. Results of the study showed that all wires stored in simulated oral conditions (PBS at 37±1°C with bracket-related load deflection) were significantly rougher (p 0.05) than their counterparts in the as-received condition. Rhodium-coated wires were found to be significantly rougher (p

Book The Mechanical Effects of Flaming Nickel Titanium Orthodontic Archwires

Download or read book The Mechanical Effects of Flaming Nickel Titanium Orthodontic Archwires written by David Matthew MacLeod and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Objective: To assess the mechanical effects of nickel-titanium orthodontic archwire flaming and their distribution along the wire. Methodology: Two sizes of pre-formed austenitic nickel-titanium archwires were tested (n=10). The terminal 5mm of each wire was heated for five seconds using a butane lighter. Micro-hardness testing was used to determine the heat-affected zone for all wires. Cantilever bending was performed to assess the mechanical properties of heated wires. Results: The heat-affected zone was found to extend less than 2 mm past the flame boundary for all wires. For each wire gauge, the flamed zone was characterized by a lower and flatter super-elastic plateau and an increased tendency for plastic deformation when compared to controls. Conclusions: The limited ability of austenitic nickel-titanium orthodontic archwires to conduct heat past the boundary of the flamed region suggests no need to alter current clinical practice.

Book The Effect of Topical Fluoride Agents on Coated Nickel titanium Archwires

Download or read book The Effect of Topical Fluoride Agents on Coated Nickel titanium Archwires written by Kristen Marie Wellemeyer Sander and published by . This book was released on 2015 with total page 39 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examined the effect of exposure to topical fluoride agents on the mechanical properties and surface characteristics of esthetic coated nickel-titanium archwires. Two types of coated wires were tested: one with a polymer coating and one with a rhodium ion coating. Wires were divided into treatment groups based on type of fluoride exposure: no treatment (DI water), neutral sodium fluoride gel, neutral sodium fluoride rinse, or acidulated phosphate fluoride (APF) gel. A three-point bend test in DI water at 37"1°C was performed on specimens before and after test solution exposure. Unloading forces at 1, 1.5, and 2mm of deflection were reported, along with unloading elastic modulus and yield strength. Three representative specimens from each treatment group along with untested wires underwent qualitative scanning electron microscopy (SEM) surface topography analysis following test solution exposure. Results of the present study indicated no significant difference between treatment groups for any mechanical properties measured (p> 0.05) after fluoride exposure. However, significant differences were observed between wire types for all measures within all treatment groups (p
