Book The Effects of Body Camber on Body Pressure Distributions and Wing Forces for Mach Numbers from 2 0 to 7 6

Download or read book The Effects of Body Camber on Body Pressure Distributions and Wing Forces for Mach Numbers from 2 0 to 7 6 written by Beverly Beane and published by . This book was released on 1962 with total page 66 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been conducted in the MIT Aerophysics Laboratory wind tunnel to determine the effects of body camber on the pressure distribution over a cone-cylinder type body and on the forces on wings attached to the body. Three models were tested, one being a straight cone-cylinder and the other two, similar in cross-ection, having cambered axes. Tabulated data from these tests were presented in an earlier report. The present report attempts to analyze some of the data from a theoretical viewpoint. The effect of body camber is considered as a disturbance to the flow field about a straight body. Slender body theory in a slightly modified form is used to predict the effect of this disturbance on the pressure re-distribution for the body and on the forces on the attached wing surfaces. In applying this method, the pressures and wing forces for the straight body are assumed known exactly (from experiment in the present comparisons). The prediction is reasonably successful in most of the examples analyzed.

This book was released on 1961 with total page 83 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents tabulated static pressure distribution data for one straight and two cambered shapes of a cone-cylinder body. Data on the effects of cruciform canards at various angles of attack and "Y" mounted wings on the distribution is also included. In addition, force and moment data in three components for one of the three wings is presented.

Book Transonic Aerodynamic Loading Characteristics of a Wing body tail Combination Having 52 5 Sweptback Wing of Aspect Ratio 3 with Conical Wing Camber and Body Indentation for a Design Mach Number square Root Of 2

Download or read book Transonic Aerodynamic Loading Characteristics of a Wing body tail Combination Having 52 5 Sweptback Wing of Aspect Ratio 3 with Conical Wing Camber and Body Indentation for a Design Mach Number square Root Of 2 written by Marlowe D. Cassetti and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 104 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An investigation has been made of the effects of conical wing camber and body indentation according to the supersonic area rule on the aerodynamic wing loading characteristics of a wing-body-tail configuration at transonic speeds. The wing aspect ratio was 3, taper ratio was 0.1, and quarter-chord-line sweepback was 52.5° with 3-percent-thick airfoil sections. The tests were conducted in the Langley 16-foot transonic tunnel at Mach numbers from 0.80 to 1.05 and at angles of attack from 0° to 14°, with Reynolds numbers based on mean aerodynamic chord varying from 7 x 106 to 8 x 106. Conical camber delayed wing-tip stall and reduced the severity of the accompanying longitudinal instability but did not appreciably affect the spanwise load distribution at angles of attack below tip stall. Body indentation reduced to transonic chordwise center-of-pressure travel from about 8 percent to 5 percent of the mean aerodynamic chord.

Book Investigation at Mach Numbers from 0 80 to 1 43 of Pressure and Load Distributions Over a Thin 45 Sweptback Highly Tapered Wing in Combination with Basic and Indented Bodies

Download or read book Investigation at Mach Numbers from 0 80 to 1 43 of Pressure and Load Distributions Over a Thin 45 Sweptback Highly Tapered Wing in Combination with Basic and Indented Bodies written by Thomas L. Fischetti and published by . This book was released on 1957 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pressure distributions have been obtained in the Langley 8-foot transonic tunnels over a Mach number range from 0.80 to 1.125 and at a Mach number of 1.43 for a 45 degree sweptback cambered wing having a thickened root, an aspect ratio of 4.0, and a taper ratio of 0.15. Data were obtained for the wing in the presence of a basic Sears-Haack body and a body indented symmetrically for a Mach number of 1.2.

This book was released on 1961 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Tests were conducted at Mach numbers 5, 6, and 8 to obtain force and pressure distribution data for two elliptic ogives. The results presented show the effect of Mach number and Reynolds number variation on aerodynamic forces for angles of attack from -6 to +6 deg and on pressure distributions for angles of attack from -4 to +4 deg. Shadowgraphs obtained at various angles of attack show shock wave and boundary layer phenomena.
