This book was released on 2022-09-04 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yoga is a complete science of life that originated in India many thousands of years ago. It is the oldest system of personal development in the world encompassing the entire body, mind and spirit. Traditionally Yoga is the union between a person's own consciousness and the universal consciousness. Yoga is defined as a science of mental control which helps not only one to control one's mental state, but also to improve one's personality and behaviour, if practiced regularly from childhood (Udupa, 1985). Taking into account the importance of Yoga in all walks of life, it has been extensively worked on. Yoga has been seen to have an effect on stress reduction at the managerial levels of employment (Heilbronn, 1992), and has been reportedly of wide spread use in the general clinical (Lepicovska, Dostaiek & Kovarova, 1988), as well as the psychiatric set up (Shannahoff, David & Beckett, 1996; Pasek, 1982). These studies have not only been extensively reported from the eastern part of the world but also from Europe and the United States, thereby providing evidence of the fact that Yoga has become more of a way of life, a harbinger of wellness and a path towards well-being in general. The physical benefits of Yoga were found to have been immense. Pranayama was shown to have an effect on muscular endurance, vital capacity and cardiovascular endurance (Sakthignanavel, 1998). Yoga training was reported to have brought about positive psychoneuro, physiological and biochemical alterations (Ganguly, Bera & Gharote, 2002),

Book Benefits of Yoga on Academic Achievement

Download or read book Benefits of Yoga on Academic Achievement written by P. Nazni and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Yoga is a practical philosophy that involves every aspect of a person's being: physical, psychological and spiritual. Yoga-based interventions have been found to have diverse effects including diminished stress and improved concentration. Past research revealed connections between yoga and stress reduction, as well as between yoga and academic achievement, when yoga was done outside the classroom. This study evaluated the effects of doing yoga for eight standard students on nutritional and academic achievement. The results indicate that yoga in the classroom was a positive addition to the classroom schedule. The results indicate that, students showed an increase in nutritional parameters, performed better on Numerical ability, Verbal ability, World relationship test, Reading ability and Writing ability test, and perceived a benefit of doing yoga. These results suggest that yoga is a positive addition to the secondary school students and can be an effective way to help students cope with stress and focus on schoolwork.

Book Psychosocial Benefits of Yoga Training for Newcomers

Download or read book Psychosocial Benefits of Yoga Training for Newcomers written by Kerri Alicia and published by Jordanpeterson. This book was released on 2023-02-25 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress among high school students appears to be a growing problem in the United States. The American Psychological Association's 2013 report Stress in America showed that 27% of teenagers reported high stress levels (8-10 on a 10-point scale) during the school year. Of these, 42% reported they did not feel they were doing enough to manage their stress (APA, 2014). In his text Adolescence, Robert Feldman cites Kiecolt-Glaser and Cohen, Tyrrell & Smith on the manifestations of unmanaged stress including headaches, backaches, indigestion, chronic fatigue, and illness (Feldman, 2008). In addition, Feldman discusses the positive effects of effectively coping with stress such as learning strategies to deal with more difficult stressors later in life. Feldman also notes that teens who cope effectively often have feelings of resilience, a perceived ability to deal with challenges, and increased feelings of self-worth (2008). Clearly it is necessary for teenagers to learn to manage stress for their mental health, but there is evidence that it is important for their academic achievement as well.

Book Psychosocial Benefits of Yoga Training for Freshmen High School Students

Download or read book Psychosocial Benefits of Yoga Training for Freshmen High School Students written by Kerri Alicia Scott and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stress in adolescents is a growing concern in the United States. The American Psychological Association has reported that teenagers are more stressed today than ever before (American Psychological Association, 2014 [APA]). Many studies have shown that relaxation techniques including yoga can be helpful in reducing stress and associated issues. This study investigates the efficacy of school teachers minimally trained in yoga techniques to instruct students in these techniques for 15-20 minutes per day 2-3 times per week during the school day. The hypothesis of this study was that this would be sufficient to see benefits in the students participating in yoga as compared to a control group that participated in silent reading for a similar duration of time. Students were asked to complete surveys pertaining to several psychosocial measures as well as bullying behavior and victimization. The yoga group showed significant reductions in bullying victimization over the course of the study while the control group saw no significant changes. Additionally, measures of confusion and depression increased in the control group (possibly enhanced by the death of a fellow student during the study) but there was no such change in the yoga group, indicating a protective effect from the yoga. These results indicate that students learning yoga techniques from classroom teachers with only a few hours of yoga-specific training can experience improvements in social interactions, while also being protected to a degree from the mental impacts of tragic events.

Book Yoga s Influence on Nursing Students Randomized Study

Download or read book Yoga s Influence on Nursing Students Randomized Study written by Mathad Monali . D. and published by . This book was released on 2023-12-11 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In a groundbreaking randomized study conducted among nursing students, the profound impact of yoga on their overall well-being, stress levels, and academic performance was meticulously examined. The research, designed to assess the potential benefits of integrating yoga into the demanding curriculum of nursing education, sought to provide empirical evidence on the effectiveness of yoga as a holistic approach to supporting the mental and physical health of future healthcare professionals. The study, conducted over a period of six months, involved a diverse group of nursing students randomly assigned to either a yoga intervention group or a control group that did not participate in any structured yoga activities. The yoga intervention comprised regular sessions incorporating a blend of physical postures, breath control exercises, and mindfulness techniques. The control group, on the other hand, continued with their standard academic routine without any additional interventions. Throughout the study, participants' stress levels were assessed using standardized measures, and academic performance was tracked through grades and self-reported data. The results unveiled a compelling narrative of the positive influence of yoga on nursing students. Those engaged in the yoga intervention reported a significant reduction in stress levels compared to their counterparts in the control group. The practice of yoga not only served as a physical outlet but also emerged as a potent tool for cultivating mindfulness and resilience in the face of the rigorous demands of nursing education. Furthermore, the impact of yoga on academic performance was a notable revelation. Students who participated in regular yoga sessions exhibited improved concentration, heightened cognitive abilities, and a greater capacity to manage the multifaceted challenges inherent in their academic pursuits. The integration of yoga into the curriculum thus emerged as a potential strategy to enhance the overall educational experience for nursing students. Beyond the quantitative data, qualitative findings from the study provided rich insights into the subjective experiences of nursing students practicing yoga. Participants reported a heightened sense of self-awareness, improved emotional regulation, and a greater ability to cope with the emotional demands of their future profession. The cultivation of a mind-body connection through yoga was identified as a valuable asset in fostering not only personal well-being but also a deeper understanding of the interconnectedness between mental and physical health-an essential perspective for healthcare professionals.

Book Effect of Yoga on Stress R Brain Signal Analysis

Download or read book Effect of Yoga on Stress R Brain Signal Analysis written by Sundar Raj M. and published by Faculty of Engineering and Technoolog Department. This book was released on 2021-11-26 with total page 108 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Title Effect of Yoga on Stress R Brain Signal Analysis Researcher Sundar Raj, M Guide(s) Adalarasu, K Keywords Engineering Engineering and Technology Engineering Electrical and Electronic University Bharath University Completed Date 2017 Abstract Stress can significantly enhance the performance of the human individuals. Though moderate levels of stress can be useful in maintaining attention, too much stress impairs working performance; this appalling figure determines the seriousness of this problem pertaining to stress level of the students. Young Indians living in wealthier and more educated regions are more likely to suffer from such kind of problems. Cognitive reactions of stress result in the inability to concentrate and however relaxation therapies significantly reduce the stress level in students. Moreover, research has shown PMBSR (Physical Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) to be effective in reducing pain intensity, chronic pain, and stress. Yoga can lead to neurological changes, foster physiologic health benefits through improved immune function and reduced arousal. The research revealed that the school children s, NCC Cadets and the surgeons improved the physical and cognitive strength after practicing the Yoga for the proper time duration. The stress was identified based on the Pystack (Go- NoGo) test and brain signal before and after yoga activity, pre yoga- post yoga and the brain signal was acquired using the 24 channel EEG (Electroencephalogram) device and the distraction noises from the signal was reduced and classified using Independent Compound Analysis (ICA) tool. Yoga energizes the pre-frontal lobes of the human brain and in time, the limbic system becomes harder to arouse. This results in behavioral changes including better physical, ego, integrity, psychological problems, less depression and anxiety and better social skills. Other positive outcomes linked to Yoga practices include effective functioning, academic performance, concentration, perceptual sensitivity, reaction time, memory, self control, empathy, and self-esteem newline Pagination URI httphdl.handle.net10603321508 Appears in DepartmentsDepartment of Electronics and Communication Engineering.

Book Advances in the Understanding of the Affective and Cognitive Effects of Physical Activity Exercise and Sports

Download or read book Advances in the Understanding of the Affective and Cognitive Effects of Physical Activity Exercise and Sports written by Chong Chen and published by Frontiers Media SA. This book was released on 2024-03-22 with total page 218 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An increasing body of research suggests that physical activity, exercise, and sports enhance a wide range of cognitive and affective wellbeing, including attention, executive functions, memory and learning, creativity, stress resilience, and mental health. Engaging in regular physical activity has also been associated with a reduced risk of many neurological and psychiatric disorders, notably dementia, major depressive disorders, and anxiety disorders. However, firstly, it is still unclear what kind of physical activity, exercise, and sports conducted on how long a timescale brings maximal benefits to a specific outcome for a specific population. Secondly, how findings reported so far can be incorporated into daily practice by the general public and in educational, neurological, and psychiatric contexts remain unaddressed. Thirdly, the underlying psychological, physiological, and neurobiological mechanisms through which physical activity, exercise, and sports promote cognitive and affective wellbeing remain to be clarified. Several potential mechanisms have been proposed, including the activation of the prefrontal cortices and the dopamine and serotonin neurotransmission, the release of neurotrophins, the enhancement of neural plasticity and neurogenesis, and the decrease of neuroinflammation and oxidative stress.

Download or read book Applied Mindfulness written by Victor G. Carrión, M.D. and published by American Psychiatric Pub. This book was released on 2019-02-11 with total page 396 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applied Mindfulness: Approaches in Mental Health for Children and Adolescents starts from the premise that mental health clinicians must have their own mindfulness practice before teaching the tenets and techniques of mindfulness to others, including young people. To that end, the book offers readers clear instructions on how to first practice mindfulness in their own lives and then extend their personal practice outward to others. Once this knowledge is internalized, the clinician can focus on mindfulness in terms of its application to specific clinical diagnoses, such as anxiety and depression, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and substance abuse. Because many mental health professionals work in multiple settings, such as in schools, in clinics, and online, the contributors, representing a wide range of creative and authoritative voices, explain how to skillfully tailor mindfulness interventions for effective application across diverse contexts. Drs. Carrion and Rettger, as Director of the Stanford Early Life Stress and Pediatric Anxiety Program (SELSPAP) and Director of SELSPAP's Mindfulness Program, respectively, have been engaged in ongoing community-based work delivering mindfulness and yoga programming to underserved youth and their helpers. This expertise is evident in their eloquent yet down-to-earth editing. The volume offers clinicians everything they need to begin their mindfulness journey, including the following: - Introductory knowledge on how to get started with a meditation practice. Specific mindfulness scripts are provided throughout the book to foster development of the reader's own practice. In addition, there are audio practices and clear written descriptions of practices to offer support for those learning to meditate, internalize mindfulness practices, and then adapt these skills for clinical practice. - A developmental and ecological approach to implementing mindfulness. The book offers insight into integrating mindfulness across many settings, platforms, and applications, and includes chapters on mindfulness online, at home, and in school, as well as chapters on incorporating nature into mindfulness practice and the relationship between mindfulness and creativity. - Material on specific clinical populations, including immigrant youth and incarcerated youth. A special chapter is devoted to trauma-informed yoga, which has been shown to be an effective therapeutic intervention for youth who have been incarcerated.- Comprehensive information on the current state of youth mindfulness research, which prepares readers to discuss these topics knowledgeably with colleagues and patients. Like ripples in water, the benefits of mindfulness spread outward, from clinicians to patients, families, schools, and communities. Applied Mindfulness: Approaches in Mental Health for Children and Adolescents is the first step toward stress reduction, peace, and compassion for a new generation.
