Book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Download or read book Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences written by Wade H. Shafer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 28 (thesis year 1 983) a total of 10,661 theses titles from 26 Canadian and 197 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 28 reports theses submitted in-1983, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Book Effect of Larger Sized Coarse Aggregates on Mechanical Properties of Portland Cement Concrete Pavements and Structures

Download or read book Effect of Larger Sized Coarse Aggregates on Mechanical Properties of Portland Cement Concrete Pavements and Structures written by and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 172 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ODOT is continually searching for ways to improve the cost efficiency of Portland cement concrete without sacrificing concrete strength and stiffness. Because Portland cement is easily the most costly material used in normal concrete, limiting the amount of cement used is the quickest way to achieve cost effectiveness. In addition, limiting the cement content will also help to prevent dimensional instabilities in concrete such as shrinkage and creep. The use of larger sized coarse aggregates may be useful in limiting cement content, yet larger sized coarse aggregates may also decrease concrete strength by weakening the aggregate-cement paste bond. In many transportation structures, such as pavements, concrete strength is not critical, as dimensional stability, porosity, and durability play a more important role. It is possible, therefore, that larger sized coarse aggregates can reduce the cement content and improve these properties. Laboratory research is needed to determine if larger sized coarse aggregates can improve cement efficiency without reducing concrete strength.

Book Effects of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag in Portland Cement Concrete

Download or read book Effects of Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag in Portland Cement Concrete written by Irene K. LaBarca and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research examined the properties of concrete containing grade 120 slag cement at replacement levels of 0%, 30%, and 50%. The primary concrete properties studied were compressive strength, split-tensile strength, and deicer scaling resistance. Material variations included four sources of ordinary portland cement and two types of coarse aggregate. Strength properties were studied at room temperature and 40°F mix and curing conditions. Deicer scaling resistance was studied for concrete cured under six curing conditions. Carbonation of concrete cured under these six conditions was also investigated.

Book excerpt: 4 individual studies concerned with the gradation of aggregates used in highway construction were conducted on: (1) effect of variations in gradation of coarse aggregate on characteristics of Portland cement concrete. (2) variation in gradation of aggregates in bituminous hot-mix plants, (3) effect of increment size on sampling accuracy, and (4) mathematical study of the pattern of variations in gradation of aggregates.

Book Preliminary Research Findings on the Effect of Coarse Aggregate on the Performance of Portland Cement Concrete Paving

Download or read book Preliminary Research Findings on the Effect of Coarse Aggregate on the Performance of Portland Cement Concrete Paving written by B. Frank McCullough and published by . This book was released on 1993 with total page 118 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report focuses on aggregates used in the construction of continuously reinforced concrete pavements (CRCP). Specific chapters address (1) past research regarding aggregates used in CRCP, (2) field and laboratory investigations of CRCP, and (3) CRCP behavior and distress. The report reviews such topics as spalling and punchout distresses in continuously reinforced and jointed pavements, aggregate shape characterization using fractals, and the determination of sawcut depth using fractal analysis. Some of these activities relate directly to improving pavement performance, regardless of aggregate type used for construction.
