Book Accuracy Assessment of Supervised and Unsupervised Classification Using Landsat Imagery of Little Rock Arkansas

Download or read book Accuracy Assessment of Supervised and Unsupervised Classification Using Landsat Imagery of Little Rock Arkansas written by Rex Peacock and published by . This book was released on 2014 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remotely sensed data is an important component of land use/land cover (LULC) studies. This research utilized the vegetation-impervious surface-soil (V-I-S) model. Using Enhanced Thematic Mapper Plus (ETM+) imagery, this research compared the accuracy of supervised and unsupervised classification by analyzing three study areas in and near Little Rock, Arkansas. The first study area was a homogeneous region comprised primarily of water features. The second study area was a region of an intermediate mix of land cover classes. The third study area was a region of heterogeneous land cover composition between the four land cover classes of the V-I-S model. Upon the completion of supervised and unsupervised classification, 200 points for each area were randomly generated using a stratified random sampling approach. The land cover data associated with these points were then compared to ground truth data derived from higher-resolution imagery from the National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP). Based on error matrices, the homogeneous and intermediate study areas featured higher accuracy values for unsupervised classification over supervised classification. For the heterogeneous study area, supervised classification was more accurate than unsupervised classification by one percent.

Book Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation

Download or read book Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation written by Thomas Lillesand and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2015-02-18 with total page 779 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote Sensing and Image Interpretation, 7th Edition is designed to be primarily used in two ways: as a textbook in the introductory courses in remote sensing and image interpretation, and as a reference for the burgeoning number of practitioners who use geospatial information and analysis in their work. Because of the wide range of academic and professional settings in which this book might be used, we have made the discussion “discipline neutral.” In short, anyone involved in geospatial data acquisition and analysis should find this book to be a valuable text and reference.

Book Remote Sensing Digital Image Analysis

Download or read book Remote Sensing Digital Image Analysis written by John A. Richards and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 297 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With the widespread availability of satellite and aircraft remote sensing image data in digital form, and the ready access most remote sensing practitioners have to computing systems for image interpretation, there is a need to draw together the range of digital image processing procedures and methodologies commonly used in this field into a single treatment. It is the intention of this book to provide such a function, at a level meaningful to the non-specialist digital image analyst, but in sufficient detail that algorithm limitations, alternative procedures and current trends can be appreciated. Often the applications specialist in remote sensing wishing to make use of digital processing procedures has had to depend upon either the mathematically detailed treatments of image processing found in the electrical engineering and computer science literature, or the sometimes necessarily superficial treatments given in general texts on remote sensing. This book seeks to redress that situation. Both image enhancement and classification techniques are covered making the material relevant in those applications in which photointerpretation is used for information extraction and in those wherein information is obtained by classification.

Book Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS

Download or read book Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS written by Giles M. Foody and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-07-11 with total page 326 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Remote sensing and geographical information science (GIS) have advanced considerably in recent years. However, the potential of remote sensing and GIS within the environmental sciences is limited by uncertainty, especially in connection with the data sets and methods used. In many studies, the issue of uncertainty has been incompletely addressed. The situation has arisen in part from a lack of appreciation of uncertainty and the problems it can cause as well as of the techniques that may be used to accommodate it. This book provides general overviews on uncertainty in remote sensing and GIS that illustrate the range of uncertainties that may occur, in addition to describing the means of measuring uncertainty and the impacts of uncertainty on analyses and interpretations made. Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS provides readers with comprehensive coverage of this largely undocumented subject: * Relevant to a broad variety of disciplines including geography, environmental science, electrical engineering and statistics * Covers range of material from base overviews to specific applications * Focuses on issues connected with uncertainty at various points along typical data analysis chains used in remote sensing and GIS Written by an international team of researchers drawn from a variety of disciplines, Uncertainty in Remote Sensing and GIS provides focussed discussions on topics of considerable importance to a broad research and user community. The book is invaluable reading for researchers, advanced students and practitioners who want to understand the nature of uncertainty in remote sensing and GIS, its limitations and methods of accommodating it.

Book Register implementation for land cover legends

Download or read book Register implementation for land cover legends written by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations and published by Food & Agriculture Org.. This book was released on 2021-07-30 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Land cover assessment and monitoring of its dynamics are essential requirements for the sustainable management of natural resources, environmental protection, food security, humanitarian programmes as well as core data for monitoring and modelling. Land Cover (LC) data are therefore fundamental in fulfilling the mandates of many United Nations (UN), international and national institutions and programmes. Despite the recognition of such importance, current users of LC data still lack access to sufficient reliable or comparable baseline LC data. These data are essential to tackle the increasing concerns in regard to food security, environmental degradation, and climate change. Critically, maintaining and restoring land resources plays a vital task in tackling climate change, securing biodiversity, and maintaining crucial ecosystem services, while ensuring resilient livelihoods and food security.
