Book The Effect of the Contact Conditions and Surface Treatments on the Fretting Fatigue Strength of Medium Carbon Steel

Download or read book The Effect of the Contact Conditions and Surface Treatments on the Fretting Fatigue Strength of Medium Carbon Steel written by K. Tsutsui and published by . This book was released on 2000 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fretting fatigue tests characterized with employing a contact bridge pad clamped to a fatigue specimen were conducted to find the effect of shapes of contact pads. The shapes of the contact edge of the pad used in the test were sharp and round. The relative slip amplitude during fatigue testing was measured and the effect of the location of the displacement sensor was discussed with the result of the stress analysis around the contact area. The effect of molybdenum coating on the fretting fatigue strength was also investigated.

Book Multitechnique Studies on Fretting Fatigue Influence of Surface Treatment

Download or read book Multitechnique Studies on Fretting Fatigue Influence of Surface Treatment written by Harro Sander and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 69 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the experimental program a specially constructed apparatus was used to simulate conditions at the faying surfaces in a structural joint. Fretting fatigue tests were carried out on 34 Chromium Nickel Molybdenum 6/100Cr6 steels using stress ratios from the range of finite endurance. Two methods of surface treatments are used: polishing and shaping. Two directions of each surface treatment are considered: parallel and perpendicular to the sliding direction. The results are compared to baseline tests on the same material without fretting and are discussed in terms of the effect of surface roughness and normal force. Keywords: fatigue cracks, contact pressure, contact resistance, contact temperature, normal force, friction force, linear wear rate, shear stress, crack detection, magnetic induction.

Book Fretting Wear Fretting Fatigue and Damping of Structures

Download or read book Fretting Wear Fretting Fatigue and Damping of Structures written by Toshio Hattori and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-12-26 with total page 402 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides a comprehensive overview of the mechanical distinctions between fretting damage under axial or bending external forces and fretting damage under a torsional load. It emphasizes the importance of studying practical accident cases to efficiently acquire technical skills. The book is structured around the fundamental technologies of material science, tribology, and mechanics, which are vital for understanding and addressing technical issues. The author has incorporated all fretting countermeasure technologies, which were previously often sensory and empirical in nature, and repositioned them as technologies grounded in fundamental principles. The book proposes an economical approach to product operation that maintains reliability by integrating not only design technology but also maintenance practices. It delves into specific materials, such as titanium alloys and aluminum alloys, which have seen increased use for weight reduction in industries like aerospace. In this book, “Critical Distance Stress Theory” that can easily derive the fatigue limit and fatigue life of the stress singular field at the contact edge was presented. As a result, the fretting fatigue strength and life can be predicted from the same FEM stress analysis as the normal stress concentration part. And finally, introducing a novel fretting mechanical model, the book focuses on scenarios where pressure force (N) and repeated tangential force (F) are applied to two planar objects, with the tangential force being transmitted solely through friction at the contact surface. This model finds relevance in turbine blade connection structures, among other applications. The author references Asai's research example, which encompasses fretting mechanical analysis, fretting wear evaluation, fatigue assessment, and structural damping evaluation using this model.

Book Fretting Fatigue of a Medium Carbon Steel

Download or read book Fretting Fatigue of a Medium Carbon Steel written by D. J. Duquette and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Contacting metal surfaces subjected to pressure and relative motion suffer from a phenomenon known as fretting corrosion. When one of the two surfaces is also subjected to cyclic stress this phenomenon can lead to premature fatigue crack initiation and is known as fretting fatigue. Important variables in this process are the magnitude of relative displacement, contact pressure, frequency, relative hardness of contacting surfaces, intrinsic fatigue resistance and possibly environment and temperature.
