Book Effect of Microstructure on the Fatigue Properties of Ti 6Al 4V Bar

Download or read book Effect of Microstructure on the Fatigue Properties of Ti 6Al 4V Bar written by LJ. Bartlo and published by . This book was released on 1969 with total page 11 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Microstructure can have a significant effect on the mechanical properties of titanium alloys. The extent of this effect on the fatigue properties of the Ti-6Al-4V alloy in small diameter bar (0.625 in., 15.875 mm) was studied. Microstructural variations were produced by heat treating from 1550 to 1950 F at 100 F intervals. Three different cooling rates (furnace cooling, air cooling, and water quenching) were employed for each temperature. The room-temperature tensile, smooth, and notch-fatigue properties were evaluated for each thermal condition.

Book Load Interaction Effects on Fatigue Crack Growth in Ti 6Al 4V Alloy

Download or read book Load Interaction Effects on Fatigue Crack Growth in Ti 6Al 4V Alloy written by Robert Peh-ying Wei and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 36 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The importance of delay, retardation in the rate of fatigue crack growth, produced by load interactions in variable amplitude loading, on the accurate prediction of fatigue lives of engineering structures is discussed. The effects of a broad range of loading variables on delay in fatigue crack growth at room temperature are examined for a mill annealed Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The results are used to estimate crack growth behavior under programmed loads.

Book Influences of Chemical and Thermal Environments on Delay in a Ti 6Al 4V Alloy

Download or read book Influences of Chemical and Thermal Environments on Delay in a Ti 6Al 4V Alloy written by TT. Shih and published by . This book was released on 1976 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The influences of chemical and thermal environments on delay in fatigue crack growth under elemental load spectra were examined for a mill-annealed Ti-6Al-4V alloy. The results indicate that delay is significantly affected by the hold time at high load in 3.5 percent NaCl solution at room temperature, and by both temperature and thermal history. In 3.5 percent NaCl solution, delay may be increased by 40 times through increasing the hold time from zero to 900 s, the specific amount depends on the overload ratio (Khmax/Klmax) and the maximum value of the low-amplitude fatigue load (or Klmax. Delay is generally higher at the higher test temperature (560°F or 293°C), although the trend in behavior associated with changes in loading variables is similar to that observed at room temperature. Delay is significantly increased when the high load is applied at a high temperature, with subsequent fatigue at room temperature. It is reduced by intermediate heating at a high temperature following a high-load excursion at room temperature, and is lowest when fatigue loads are applied at high temperature following a high-load excursion at room temperature. The significance of these results in terms of modeling and life prediction procedures is discussed.

Book Static and Cyclic Creep Properties of Ti 6Al 4V for Several Heat Treatments

Download or read book Static and Cyclic Creep Properties of Ti 6Al 4V for Several Heat Treatments written by Charles M. Gilmore and published by . This book was released on 1975 with total page 25 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The room temperature static and 'cyclic' creep properties were determined for Ti-6Al-4V in three anneal conditions (alpha beta) anneal, beta anneal and recrystallized anneal). The static and 'cyclic' creep strains were inversely related to microstructure. The beta annealed alloy has the smallest static creep strain and the largest 'cyclic creep' strain; the recrystallized anneal alloy has the largest static creep and the smallest 'cyclic creep.' This behaviour indicates that static creep and 'cyclic creep' are a result of different mechanisms. It is proposed that the static creep is a result of dislocation motion within the grains, and the dislocation motion is impeded by phase and grain boundaries to limit static creep strains. The 'cyclic creep' deformation appears to be localized at the grain and phase boundaires. It is proposed that in 'cyclic creep' the dislocations migrate to the strong boundaries and then move back and forth under the cyclic loading producing vacancies at jog sites during each cycle. The vacancies condense into microcracks that are observed after etching.

Book Materials Data for Cyclic Loading

Download or read book Materials Data for Cyclic Loading written by C. Boller and published by Elsevier Publishing Company. This book was released on 1987 with total page 180 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Materials data for cyclic loading are becoming increasingly important as a tool for materials characterization and engineering design. They can serve as the basis for a comparative judgement of a material's mechanical behaviour. Furthermore, knowledge of the stress-strain behaviour during cyclic loading is required more and more frequently in finite element calculations of cyclically loaded structural parts. Finally, such data are a fundamental input for the fatigue life estimation procedure known as the Local Strain Approach or Notch Strain Approach. Materials data for cyclic loading have been published in the scientific literature for many years, but have been collected in quite different ways. This is the first time that such data have been gathered together, evaluated according to uniform approach and methods, and compiled on standardised data sheets. The handbook comprises five volumes containing a collection of some 600 datasets with over 4000 experimental results in total.
