Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study of the behavior of Inconel at 1500 deg F under realistic dynamic stress states was performed to critically evaluate present criteria used to solve low-cycle fatigue problems and to demonstrate their applicability for the more complex situations. The relative agreement between the static complex stress- creep-rupture results and the low-cycle fatigue data is demonstrated. From the relationships developed for static complex stress-creep-rupture data, it is demonstrated that the magnitudes of the effects of stress state and frequency on low-cycle fatigue can be determined. Book High Temperature Fatigue

Download or read book High Temperature Fatigue written by R.P. Skelton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 330 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About 35 years ago, thermal fatigue was identified as an important phenomenon which limited the lifetime of high temperature plant. In the intervening years many investigations have been carried out, primarily to give guidance on likely endurance (especially in the presence of time dependent deformation) but latterly, with the introduction of sophisticated testing machines, to provide knowledge of the underlying mechanisms of failure. A previous edited book (Fatigue at High Temperature, Elsevier Applied Science Publishers, 1983) summarised the state-of-the-art of high temperature fatigue testing and examined the factors influencing life, such as stress state, environment and microstructural effects. It also considered, in some detail, cyclic crack growth as a more rigorous approach to life limitation. The aim of the present volume (which in style and format follows exactly the same lines as its predecessor) is once again to pursue the desire to translate detailed laboratory knowledge into engineering design and assessment. There is, for example, a need to consider the limitations of the laboratory specimen and its relationship with engineering features. Many design procedures still rely on a simple endurance approach based on failure of a smooth specimen, and this is taken to indicate crack initiation in the component. In this volume, therefore, crack propagation is covered only incidentally, emphasis being placed instead on basic cyclic stress strain properties, non-isothermal behaviour, metallography, failure criteria and the need for agreed testing procedures.

Book A Stress Strain Time Model SST for High Temperature Low Cycle Fatigue

Download or read book A Stress Strain Time Model SST for High Temperature Low Cycle Fatigue written by Henry Louis Bernstein and published by . This book was released on 1979 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Stress-Strain-Time Model (SST) has been developed to predict high-temperature, low-cycle fatigue life. The model states that the life can be predicted by three variables--stress, strain, and time. These three variables are combined in a power-law equation to predict the life. The stress parameter accounts for mean stress effects. The strain parameter accounts for time-independent fatigue damage, and the time parameter accounts for the time dependence of fatigue life. High-temperature, low-cycle fatigue data for several alloy systems are correlated to within a factor of 2.1, and data are predicted to within a factor of 2.6 using the SST Model. (Author).

Book Fatigue Damage Crack Growth and Life Prediction

Download or read book Fatigue Damage Crack Growth and Life Prediction written by F. Ellyin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 484 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue failure is a multi-stage process. It begins with the initiation of cracks, and with continued cyclic loading the cracks propagate, finally leading to the rupture of a component or specimen. The demarcation between the above stages is not well-defined. Depending upon the scale of interest, the variation may span three orders of magnitude. For example, to a material scientist an initiated crack may be of the order of a micron, whereas for an engineer it can be of the order of a millimetre. It is not surprising therefore to see that investigation of the fatigue process has followed different paths depending upon the scale of phenomenon under investigation. Interest in the study of fatigue failure increased with the advent of industrial ization. Because of the urgent need to design against fatigue failure, early investiga tors focused on prototype testing and proposed failure criteria similar to design formulae. Thus, a methodology developed whereby the fatigue theories were proposed based on experimental observations, albeit at times with limited scope. This type of phenomenological approach progressed rapidly during the past four decades as closed-loop testing machines became available.
