Book Differences in Job Satisfaction Between Special Educators when Controlling for Sense of Community

Download or read book Differences in Job Satisfaction Between Special Educators when Controlling for Sense of Community written by Jennifer Casi Cooke and published by . This book was released on 2023 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Attrition among educators is a continuing concern in the area of special education. Job satisfaction has been associated with teacher burnout and teacher attrition. Many times, multiple educators work in a close environment creating a need for community in special education. The purpose of this study is to identify differences in job satisfaction among special educator roles, including collaborative general education teachers and inclusive special education teachers, as well as self-contained special education teachers and paraprofessionals, when controlling for sense of community. A quantitative, causal comparative design was used to determine differences among job satisfaction between special educators. The study involved 93 participants with 34 collaborative general education teachers, 30 inclusive special education teachers, 14 self-contained special education teachers, and 15 paraprofessionals. Participants were selected from public school districts in Virginia containing elementary, middle, and high schools. Variables were collected using two survey instruments, including Paul Spector’s Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS), to determine educator satisfaction, and Wilfried Admiraal and Ditte Lockhorst’s Sense of Community in School Scale (SCSS) to identify educator’s perception of community. Data was gathered using SurveyMonkey. In addition, data was analyzed using an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) to determine if there were significant differences in job satisfaction between educator roles while controlling for the covariate, perceived sense of community.

Book Perceptions of Special Education Paraprofessionals in the Inclusive and Self contained Settings

Download or read book Perceptions of Special Education Paraprofessionals in the Inclusive and Self contained Settings written by Zachary Dane Wigstrom and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ABSTRACT: There have been an increasing number of paraprofessionals hired to work in the public school system in the inclusion and self-contained settings. Paraprofessional perception of job roles varies greatly within the different educational facilities within the United States. The purpose of this study was to conduct a quantitative analysis on paraprofessionals in the inclusion and self-contained environment. Survey research was chosen for the method of research for this study as the researcher attempted to gain a deeper understanding of the perception of job role of paraprofessionals in the inclusion and self-contained settings. This quantitative study examined, described and interpreted the results of a survey given to paraprofessionals in the inclusion and self-contained settings measuring perception of job role. A total of 98 paraprofessionals from the inclusion and self-contained settings completed a 15 question Likert survey assessing their perception of job role within their setting. Five factors were identified and used as the framework of the study; these were identified as Instructional Role, Liaison Role, Personal Support Role, One-to-One Support Role, and School Support Role. The independent variable in this study was identified as setting; the dependent variable was identified as the paraprofessionals' perception of job role. The results from the survey indicated there is a difference in perception of job role in the area of school support. By identifying areas where a gap exists in perception between selfcontained and inclusion paraprofessionals, strategies related to this gap are provided in hopes of creating a more than productive learning environment for students.

Book A Study of Role Conflict Role Ambiguity Locus of Control Job Satisfaction and Participation in Decision Making Among Front line Vocational Service Workers for Mentally Retarded Adults

Download or read book A Study of Role Conflict Role Ambiguity Locus of Control Job Satisfaction and Participation in Decision Making Among Front line Vocational Service Workers for Mentally Retarded Adults written by Celia L. Findlay and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study was an investigation of individual and organizational factors, as perceived by front-line vocational service workers from Adult Rehabilitation Centres (ARC Industries) for mentally retarded adults. The specific variables which were measured included role conflict/role ambiguity (role factors), internal/external locus of control (individual differences), job satisfaction with work and supervision (job attitudes) and participation in deci~ion making (organizational factor). The exploration of these constructs was conducted by means of self-report questionnaires which were completed by sixty-nine out of a total of ninety front-line employees. The surveys were distributed in booklet form to nine distinct rehabilitation facilities from St. Catharines, West Lincoln, Greater Niagara, Port Colborne, WeIland, Fort Erie, Hamilton, Guelph and Brantford. The survey data was evaluated by the statisti.cal Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) which used the Pearson Product Moment Correlation procedure and a compar~son of means test. A comparison of correlation coefficients test was also conducted. This statistical procedure was calculated mathematically. The results obtained from the statistical evaluation confirmed the prediction that self-reported measures of participation in decision making and satisfaction (work and supervision) would be negatively correlated with role conflict and role ambiguity. As well, the speculation that perceived satisfaction (work and supervision) would be positively correlated with participation in decision making was empirically supported. Internal and external locus of control did not contribute to a significant difference in r~sponses to role perceptions (conflict and ambiguity) , satisfaction (work and supervision) or the correlational relationship between participation in decision making and satisfaction (work and supervision). Overall, the findings from this study substantiated the importance of examining employee perceptions in the workplace and the interrelationships among individual and organizational variables. This research was considered a contribution to the general area of occupational stress and to the study of individuals in work organizations.

Book The Relationship Between Paraprofessional Job Satisfaction and Student Academic and Co curricular Success for Secondary School Students in Special Education

Download or read book The Relationship Between Paraprofessional Job Satisfaction and Student Academic and Co curricular Success for Secondary School Students in Special Education written by Thomas Edward Keane and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The study also asked whether there are differences among schools in the levels of paraprofessional job satisfaction in four areas of job satisfaction cited from the literature. These included role clarity, task consistency, effective communication, and adequate supervision. Student academic success was measured by student MCAS ELA and MCAS Math scores. Co-curricular success was measured by a student Co-curricular Involvement Inventory. The latter is important because special education students who are sufficiency supported have a greater opportunity to become integrated members of the school community and the larger society when they transition from school.

Book Role Conflict Role Ambiguity and ASCA Functions as Predictors of School Counselor Job Satisfaction

Download or read book Role Conflict Role Ambiguity and ASCA Functions as Predictors of School Counselor Job Satisfaction written by Annemarie Cervoni and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 114 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Few studies have been conducted focusing on job satisfaction in school counselors. The purpose of this study was to explore the impact role conflict and role ambiguity had on job satisfaction among school counselors at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, as well as all levels combined. The impact the percentage of time spent on the American School Counselor Association recommended functions of school counselors (counseling, guidance, consultation, and coordination) (ASCA, 1990) and the percentage of time spent on other duties not falling under the ASCA areas had on job satisfaction was also explored. The Role Conflict and Role Ambiguity Scale and the Job Descriptive Index were administered to 590 school counselors. Role conflict and role ambiguity, as well as the percentage of time spent on counseling, large group guidance, consultation, coordination, and other duties, were all significant predictors of job satisfaction.
