Book The Influence of Repetition Rate on Apparent Movement

Download or read book The Influence of Repetition Rate on Apparent Movement written by Floyd H. Cook and published by . This book was released on 1966 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If two similar visual forms displaced by some distance are presented in sequence for brief durations, the illusion of movement can occur. This phenomenon is important to motion pictures and television in particular, where it is used to convey the impression of motion to the viewer. The report describes an experimental attempt to determine the influence of repetition rate of the stimuli on the observation of the phenomenon. For the experiment, all factors were held constant except the spatial and temporal intervals between the two stimuli. The results clearly indicate that the repetition rate of the stimuli has a substantial effect on the perception of apparent movement. (Author).
