This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The dynamic role of plant hormones in regulation of plant growth and development revealed by its control of rates of metabolic processes and various related enzymetic reactions at molecular and submolecular levels is now weil established. During the course of last 35 years endless development in agricultural biotechnology has provided immense literature to understand hormone-regulated aspects of plant growth and development ; but plant physiologists all over the world are still devoting themselves and will continue for an indifinite period to disclose the mystries of this regulation. Volume I of this series has already been published and has been accepted weil. This encouraged me to edit aseries of volumes (I do not know the number) on this subject. In the following pages various aspects of hormone-controlled physiological processes Iike, Hormonal Control of pro tein synthesis in plants, Auxin-induced elongation, Hormonal regulation of abnormal growth in plants, Hormonal regulation of development in mosses, Some phenolics as plant growth and morphogenesis regulators, Plant growth regulating properties of sterol inhibiting fungicides, Hormonal regulation of sex expression in plants, Water relation and plant growth regulators, Hormonal regulation of root development under water stress, Gravity perception and responses meehanism in graviresponding cereal grass shoots, Hormonal regulation of leaf Growth senescence in relation to stomatal movement, and Chloroindole auxins of pea and related species, have been included.

Book Plant Growth Regulators and Their Effect on Yield of Wheat Triticum Aestivum L in Southern Australia

Download or read book Plant Growth Regulators and Their Effect on Yield of Wheat Triticum Aestivum L in Southern Australia written by Jaron Tomys Bennett and published by . This book was released on 2011 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Plant growth regulators (PGRs) shorten the straw of cereals and have been used commercially to control lodging in regions of high rainfall for many years. PGRs have been shown not only to reduce height, but affect yield formation processes such as dry matter accumulation, distribution and the principle yield components in the absence of lodging. The use of the anti-gibberellin PGRs such as Trinexapac Ethyl (Moddus) and Chlormequat Chloride (Cycocel) have only recently been considered as a means of increasing yield in dryland wheat production systems. However, results have been inconsistent and seem to vary with the type of PGR, rate, growth stage of application, environment and cultivar. The experiments reported here were designed to investigate the potential of PGRs to increase yields in dryland wheat production systems of the southern Australian wheat belt. Moddus and Cycocel (collectively to be referred to as PGRs) were applied in the field, at two locations, Wagga Wagga in the NSW Riverina using the variety EGA Gregory and Swan Hill in the Victorian Northern Mallee using the variety Yitpi. Crops were sprayed with varying rates and combinations of Moddus and/or Cycocel applied at three different crop growth stages, GS 13/15, GS 25/29 and GS 31/31. Measurements of crop height, canopy greenness, lodging, stem non-structured carbohydrates (NSC), dry matter production and yield and its principle components were taken to evaluate the effects of the PGRs."--Abstract.

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 431 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant hormone research is the favorite topic of physiologists. Past three decades have witnessed that this subject has received much attention. The inquisitive nature of human mind has pumped much in literature on this subject and this volume is the product of such minds. In the following pages various hormonal-controlled physiological processes like, flowering, seed dormancy and germination, enzyme secretion, senes cence, ion transport, fruit ripening, root growth and development, thig momorphogenesis and tendril thigmonasty have been included. The volume also contains a review paper on 'Growth Regulating Activity of Penicillin in Higher Plants' and has been presented for the first time. The vast contents of each review paper have been written by erudite scholars who have admirably carried out their evangelic task to make the text up TO date. This volume, I am sure, would stimulate the appetite of researchers of peripheral disciplines of botany and agricultural sciences and they will continue to enjoy the fun and adventures of plant hormone research. Book excerpt: Agriculture faces many challenges to fulfil the growing demand for sustainable food production and ensure high-quality nutrition for a rapidly growing population. To guarantee adequate food production, it is necessary to increase the yield per area of arable land. A method for achieving this goal has been the application of growth regulators to modulate plant growth. Plant growth regulators (PGRs) are substances in specific formulations which, when applied to plants or seeds, have the capacity to promote, inhibit, or modify physiological traits, development and/or stress responses. They maintain proper balance between source and sink for enhancing crop yield. PGRs are used to maximize productivity and quality, improve consistency in production, and overcome genetic and abiotic limitations to plant productivity. Suitable PGRs include hormones such as cytokinins and auxins, and hormone-like compounds such as mepiquat chloride and paclobutrazol. The use of PGRs in mainstream agriculture has steadily increased within the last 20 years as their benefits have become better understood by growers. Unfortunately, the growth of the PGR market may be constrained by a lack of innovation at a time when an increase in demand for new products will require steady innovation and discovery of novel, cost-competitive, specific, and effective PGRs. A plant bio-stimulant is any substance or microorganism applied to plants with the aim to enhance nutrition efficiency, abiotic stress tolerance and/or crop quality traits, regardless of its nutrients content. Apart from traditional PGRs, which are mostly plant hormones, there are a number of substances/molecules such as nitric oxide, methyl jasmonate, brassinosteroids, seaweed extracts, strigolactones, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria etc. which act as PGRs. These novel PGRs or bio-stimulants have been reported to play important roles in stress responses and adaptation. They can protect plants against various stresses, including water deficit, chilling and high temperatures, salinity and flooding. This book includes chapters ranging from sensing and signalling in plants to translational research. In addition, the cross-talk operative in plants in response to varied signals of biotic and abiotic nature is also presented. Ultimately the objective of this book is to present the current scenario and the future plan of action for the management of stresses through traditional as well as novel PGRs. We believe that this book will initiate and introduce readers to state-of-the-art developments and trends in this field of study.

Book Hormone Action in Plant Development A Critical Appraisal

Download or read book Hormone Action in Plant Development A Critical Appraisal written by G. V. Hoad and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hormone Action in Plant Development - A Critical Appraisal documents the proceedings of the Tenth Long Ashton Symposium, September 1986. The symposium was convened to assess the evidence for and against the view that plant hormones are endogenous regulators of plant development. The meeting also aimed to focus on and assess promising strategies for future research. The symposium opened with the Douglas Wills Lecture, given by Professor Carl Leopold. In many respects, progress in research on animal hormones seems greater than in the plant sciences and there may well be merit in following progress in animal hormone research as suggested by Professor Leopold. The symposium was comprised of four sessions. The introductory session considered the coordinating role of hormones in plant growth and development, and focused on hormone action at the molecular level, including their binding to receptors and their control of gene expression. The next two sessions embraced contributions on the experimental manipulation of development by genetic (notably by biochemical mutants), chemical (for example, with gibberellin/biosynthesis inhibitors), and environmental (including drought stress) means. All these approaches consolidated the central importance of hormones in plant growth. In the final session, three speakers suggested some promising avenues for future research into the physiology, biochemistry, and molecular biology of plant hormones.
