Book The Effect of an In season Strength Training Program on Throwing Velocity of High School Baseball Players

Download or read book The Effect of an In season Strength Training Program on Throwing Velocity of High School Baseball Players written by Nathan Allen Cermak and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 90 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of an in-season strength-training program on throwing velocity. Twenty-one baseball players, mean # SD age, height, and weight of 16.7 # 1.2 yr., 71.1 # 3.1 in., and 168.1 # 29.9 lb, respectively, were assigned to a control or experimental group. Pre-test and post-test throwing velocities were measured with a radar gun. The experimental group participated in a strength-training program three time a week for six weeks. Data was analyzed with an ANOVA. There was no significant interaction between the experitmental group (n=10) (pre-test) 68.3 mph, post-test 69.6 mph) and the control group (n=8) (pre-test 69.3 mph, post-test 69.6 mph) over time. There was no main effect (n=18) for time; pre-test vs. post-test velocities 68.7 mph and 69.6 mph, respectively, or for group; control vs. experimental. It can be concluded that a six-week strength-training program has no effect on throwing velocity.

Book Triphasic Training

Download or read book Triphasic Training written by Cal Dietz and published by Bye Dietz Sports Enterprise. This book was released on 2012-06 with total page 376 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What is Triphasic Training? It is the pinnacle of sports performance training. Created by world renown coach, Cal Dietz, Triphasic Training breaks down dynamic, athletic movements into their three components (eccentric, isometric, and concentric), and maximizes performance gains by applying stress to the athlete in a way that allows for the continuous development of strength, speed, and power. Who uses Triphasic Training: Everyone! From elite level athletes to absolute beginners, the triphasic method of training allows for maximal performance gains in minimal time. For that reason professional athletes from all backgrounds seek out Coach Dietz each off-season to train with his triphasic system. Coach Dietz has worked with hundreds of athletes from the NFL, NHL, and MLB, as well as several dozen Olympic athletes in track and field, swimming, and hockey. What the book is about: Triphasic Training was originally a digital book with over 3,000 hyperlinks and 6 hours of video lectures, showing the reader exactly how to perform every exercise and apply the training methods. To ensure that you do not miss out on this valuable component, inside your book you will find a web link to a downloadable PDF that contains all of the hyperlinks and videos from the original digital book. The PDF is laid out to allow you to easily follow along as you read the book. Simply scroll in the PDF to the page that you are reading in the book and it will have every hyperlink and video that is on that page. The book contains over 350 pages, divided clearly into 2 parts: the “why” and the “what”. The first three sections go through the physiological basis for the Triphasic method, undulated block periodization, and general biological applications of stress. The authors will explain how to incorporate the Triphasic methods into existing programs, with complete descriptions on adapting it to virtually any scenario. Sections 4 through 7 are devoted entirely to programming, with over 3,000 exercises and 52 weeks of programs for numerous different sports. Included in the programming section are: Over 3,000 exercises, each hyperlinked to a video tutorial that shows you exactly how to perform the exercise. 5 separate 24-week training programs built for either 6 day, 5 day, 4 day, 3 day, or 2 day models. Over 6 hours of video lectures by Coach Dietz further explaining the Triphasic Training method. These lectures go even deeper into the physiology and application of what he does with his elite athletes. Over two dozen tables showing exactly when and how to modify exercises to ensure continuous improvement in your athletes. Peaking programs for football lineman or skill players, baseball, swimming, volleyball, and hockey players (among others). A complete 52 week training program for football.

Book The Effect of Lower Body Strength Training on Throwing Velocity in Baseball

Download or read book The Effect of Lower Body Strength Training on Throwing Velocity in Baseball written by Michael Brian Benke and published by . This book was released on 2010 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Introduction: Limited research has been found examining the effects of lower body training on throwing velocity. Most studies have focused on training the upper part of the body, neglecting the impact the lower body has on the throwing motion. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of lower body training on throwing velocity when combined with short and long toss throwing programs. Methods: Twenty Four members of a collegiate baseball team were placed into 4 groups according to their pre-test throwing velocity and participated in a 5-week throwing and training program. Two of the groups performed short toss (ST and STWT), with one short toss group also involved in weight training exercises. The other two groups threw long toss (LT and LTWT) and one of those groups participated in the weight training program. Results: Twenty-two participants completed the five-week training protocol and were considered in data analysis. There was no significant interaction between time (pre vs. post) and group, F(2, 18)=0.611, p>.05. There were no significant main effects for time (pre to post), F(1, 18)=0.496, p>.05 or group (LT, ST, LTWT, STWT), F(2, 18)=.061, p>.05. This five week strength training and throwing program had no effect on throwing velocity"--Abstract.

Book The Effect of Pitching with Underweight and Overweight Balls on Pitch Velocity in Collegiate Baseball Pitchers

Download or read book The Effect of Pitching with Underweight and Overweight Balls on Pitch Velocity in Collegiate Baseball Pitchers written by Hillary Ake and published by . This book was released on 2016 with total page 86 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: BACKGROUND: In an effort to improve overhand throw velocity in baseball pitchers, weighted implement training, which utilizes balls that are heavier or lighter than a competition ball, have been employed. Weighted ball programs have previously been used in baseball pitchers ranging from high school to professional with varying ball weights with mixed results (Straub, 1966; Brose and Hanson, 1967; DeRenne, 1985; DeRenne, 1990; van den Tillaar and Ettema, 2011). PURPOSE: To determine the effect of a commercially available weighted ball program on the throwing velocity of collegiate baseball pitchers over the course of an off-season. METHODS: This retrospective study examined pitch velocity for 56 varsity collegiate baseball pitchers at the University of Mississippi between 2012-2015. The weighted implement (WI) group (n=35) used weighted implement training in addition to normal throwing activities throughout the off-season while the normal throwing (NT) group (n=21) participated in normal throwing activities only. The WI group used baseballs that were 20% overweight (6 ounces), 20% underweight (4 ounces), and regulation weight (5 ounces) while the NT group used only the regulation weight baseball. A repeated measures ANOVA was conducted. Statistical significance was set at p?0.05. RESULTS: Pitch velocity did not significantly increase from the beginning of the off-season to the end of the off-season (p=0.071) for either group and there was no significant difference between the two groups (p=0.271). CONCLUSION: In varsity collegiate pitchers currently involved in general and sport specific training, the current weighted implement throwing program is no more effective than a normal throwing protocol.
