Book Strength and Toughness of Materials

Download or read book Strength and Toughness of Materials written by Toshiro Kobayashi and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 277 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the shift from the Metal Age progresses, materials engineers and materials scientists seek new analytical and design methods to create stronger and more reliable materials. Based on extensive research and developmental work done at the author’s multi-disciplinary material laboratory, this graduate-level and professional reference addresses the relationship between fracture mechanisms (macroscale) and the microscopic, with the goal of explaining macroscopic fracture behavior based on a microscopic fracture mechanism. A careful fusion of mechanics and materials science, this text and monograph systematically considers an array of materials, from metals through ceramics and polymers, and demonstrates lab-tested strategies to develop desirable high-temperature materials for technological applications.

Book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials VI

Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials VI written by M. Jono and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 3510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant progress in the science and technology of the mechanical behaviour of materials has been made in recent years. The greatest strides forward have occurred in the field of advanced materials with high performance, such as ceramics, composite materials, and intermetallic compounds. The Sixth International Conference on Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (ICM-6), taking place in Kyoto, Japan, 29 July - 2 August 1991 addressed these issues. In commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Japan Society of Materials Science, organised by the Foundation for Advancement of International Science and supported by the Science Council of Japan, the information provided in these proceedings reflects the international nature of the meeting. It provides a valuable account of recent developments and problems in the field of mechanical behaviour of materials.

Book Fracture Behavior of Welded Ductile Iron

Download or read book Fracture Behavior of Welded Ductile Iron written by Hakan Çetinel and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2010-04 with total page 156 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this study, fracture behavior of welded ductile iron was investigated experimentally and theoretically. Ferritic ductile irons were joined by cold arc welding method by using the nickel base electrode. In experimental part of the study, firstly, mechanical and metallographical properties of the welded specimens were identified. Then, J- Integral toughness values were determined by fracture toughness tests for different crack locations including base metal, heat affected zones and weld metal. In numerical part of the study, finite element analyses were conducted by fixing 3- D models precracked on different locations. After stress - strain analyses, stress triaxiality and plastic deformation characteristics around crack tip were determined for each crack locations and different crack sizes. It was found that stress triaxiality and plastic strain values increase with growing crack length. Different regions with different strength levels, affect the extension of plastic deformation in the models. Hindrance on the extension of plastic deformation at HAZ and diffusion line causes extra increase in stress triaxiality at crack tip.
