Book A Review of Fatigue Crack Growth of Pressure Vessel and Piping Steels in High temperature Pressurized Reactor grade Water

Download or read book A Review of Fatigue Crack Growth of Pressure Vessel and Piping Steels in High temperature Pressurized Reactor grade Water written by W. H. Cullen and published by . This book was released on 1980 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fatigue crack growth data sets, for pressure vessel and piping steels, in reactor-grade water environment have appeared in various reports and publications since about 1972. All of the results which have been published from 1972 through 1979 have been plotted and are presented in this report. Beginning with a discussion of the need for these data, and an explanation of the laboratory facilities which are required for this research, this report goes on to describe the overall trends which have evolved through consideration of the data sets and the conditions under which they were generated. A model for hydrogen assisted fatigue crack growth is described and applied to the pressurized water reactor type of environment. A complete listing of references is included in the report. Book Effect of Light Water Reactor Environments on Fatigue Crack Growth Rate in Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels

Download or read book Effect of Light Water Reactor Environments on Fatigue Crack Growth Rate in Reactor Pressure Vessel Steels written by WH. Cullen and published by . This book was released on 1982 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents an overview of the effect of light-water reactor environments on the fatigue crack growth rate in reactor pressure vessel steels. The effect of different variables known to influence the environmental assistance--stress intensity range, load ratio, frequency, temperature, water chemistry, and irradiation--is described. The fractographic phenomena and mechanisms of fatigue crack propagation associated with environmental influence is emphasized. An analytical approach for predicting the crack growth rates based on the hydrogen embrittlement model is described. Finally, a discussion of the effect of different transients occurring in the nuclear reactors on the crack growth rate predictions is presented.

Book Use of a Constant K Test Method in the Investigation of Fatigue Crack Growth in 288 C Water Environments

Download or read book Use of a Constant K Test Method in the Investigation of Fatigue Crack Growth in 288 C Water Environments written by DS. DeMiglio and published by . This book was released on 1984 with total page 27 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To characterize environmental fatigue crack growth properties of reactor pressure vessel steels, experiments were conducted by a computer-controlled constant alternating stress intensity factor (?K) test technique over a wide range of R-ratios and loading frequencies in 288°C water environments. Compact fracture specimens of two nuclear pressure vessel steels were tested over a range of ?K-values from 16 to 55 MPa ?m. Loading frequencies ranged from 0.0017 to 10 Hz, and R-ratios from 0.16 to 0.72.

Book Environmental Acceleration of Fatigue Crack Growth in Reactor Pressure Vessel Materials and Environments

Download or read book Environmental Acceleration of Fatigue Crack Growth in Reactor Pressure Vessel Materials and Environments written by RH. Emanuelson and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 19 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the results of experiments to determine which variables have the most effect on environmentally assisted cracking (EAC) of reactor pressure vessel steels. Four heats of SA508 and three heats of SA533 were studied in 288°C pressurized water reactor, light water reactor, and boiling water reactor environments. The sulfur content of these materials ranged from 0.004 to 0.025%. The most important variable was found to be the sulfur content and sulfur morphology of the material. A material with a bulk sulfur content greater than 0.010% may be susceptible to EAC. The loading frequency was found to be an important variable. Minor effects of EAC were attributed to the load ratio, ?K level, and oxygen content of the environment. An experimental method to introduce sulfur directly to the crack tip is described. A time-based method of data interpretation is discussed.

Book Metal Fatigue in Engineering

Download or read book Metal Fatigue in Engineering written by Ralph I. Stephens and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2000-11-03 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Classic, comprehensive, and up-to-date Metal Fatigue in Engineering Second Edition For twenty years, Metal Fatigue in Engineering has served as an important textbook and reference for students and practicing engineers concerned with the design, development, and failure analysis of components, structures, and vehicles subjected to repeated loading. Now this generously revised and expanded edition retains the best features of the original while bringing it up to date with the latest developments in the field. As with the First Edition, this book focuses on applied engineering design, with a view to producing products that are safe, reliable, and economical. It offers in-depth coverage of today's most common analytical methods of fatigue design and fatigue life predictions/estimations for metals. Contents are arranged logically, moving from simple to more complex fatigue loading and conditions. Throughout the book, there is a full range of helpful learning aids, including worked examples and hundreds of problems, references, and figures as well as chapter summaries and "design do's and don'ts" sections to help speed and reinforce understanding of the material. The Second Edition contains a vast amount of new information, including: * Enhanced coverage of micro/macro fatigue mechanisms, notch strain analysis, fatigue crack growth at notches, residual stresses, digital prototyping, and fatigue design of weldments * Nonproportional loading and critical plane approaches for multiaxial fatigue * A new chapter on statistical aspects of fatigue
