Book The Effect of Inlet Temperature and Pressure on the Efficiency of a Single stage Impulse Turbine Having a 13 2 inch Pitch line Diameter Wheel

Download or read book The Effect of Inlet Temperature and Pressure on the Efficiency of a Single stage Impulse Turbine Having a 13 2 inch Pitch line Diameter Wheel written by Ernest R. Chanes and published by . This book was released on 1945 with total page 34 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Efficiency tests have been conducted on a single-stage impulse turbine having a 13.2-inch pitch-line diameter wheel and a cast nozzle diaphragm over a range of turbine speeds from 3000 to 17,000 rpm pressure ratios from 1.5 to 5.0, inlet total temperatures from 1200 to 2000 degrees R, and inlet total pressures from 18 to 59 inches of mercury absolute. The effect of inlet temperature and pressure on turbine efficiency for constant pressure ratio and blade-to-jet speed ratio is correlated against a factor derived from the equation for Reynolds number. The degree of correlation indicates that the change in turbine efficiency with inlet temperature and pressure for constant pressure ratio and blade-to-jet speed ratio is principally a Reynolds number test.

Book The Influence of Blade Lean on Turbine Losses

Download or read book The Influence of Blade Lean on Turbine Losses written by S. Harrison (Of Frazier-Nash Consultancy) and published by . This book was released on 1990 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Three linear cascades of highly loaded, low-aspect-ratio turbine blades have been tested in order to investigate the mechanisms by which blade lean (dihedral) influences loss generation. The blades in all three cascades have the same section but they are stacked perpendicular to the end wall in the first cascade, on a straight line inclined at 20 deg from perpendicular in the second, and on a circular arc inclined at 30 deg from perpendicular at each end in the third cascade. Lean has a marked effect upon blade loading, on the distribution of loss generation, and on the state of boundary layers on the blade suction surfaces and the endwalls, but its effect upon overall loss coefficient was found to be minimal. It was found, however, that compound lean reduced the downstream mixing losses, and reasons for this are proposed. Compound lean also has the beneficial effect of substantially reducing spanwise variations of mean exit flow angle. In a turbine this would be likely to reduce losses in the downstream blade row as well as making matching easier and improving off-design performance.

Book Axial Turbine Aerodynamics for Aero engines

Download or read book Axial Turbine Aerodynamics for Aero engines written by Zhengping Zou and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-01-11 with total page 572 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a monograph on aerodynamics of aero-engine gas turbines focusing on the new progresses on flow mechanism and design methods in the recent 20 years. Starting with basic principles in aerodynamics and thermodynamics, this book systematically expounds the recent research on mechanisms of flows in axial gas turbines, including high pressure and low pressure turbines, inter-turbine ducts and turbine rear frame ducts, and introduces the classical and innovative numerical evaluation methods in different dimensions. This book also summarizes the latest research achievements in the field of gas turbine aerodynamic design and flow control, and the multidisciplinary conjugate problems involved with gas turbines. This book should be helpful for scientific and technical staffs, college teachers, graduate students, and senior college students, who are involved in research and design of gas turbines.

Book Influence of Purge Flow on Performance of an End Wall Profiled Turbine

Download or read book Influence of Purge Flow on Performance of an End Wall Profiled Turbine written by Peter Schüpbach and published by Sudwestdeutscher Verlag Fur Hochschulschriften AG. This book was released on 2010-03 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The goal of this study is the investigation of the promising secondary flow control technique of non-axisymmetric end wall profiling in a more engine representative environment. In this work end wall profiling is applied to the first stage of a high work, 1.5 stage, unshrouded turbine. Without purge flow non-axisymmetric end wall profiling has demonstrated a considerable increase of total-to-total efficiency. The two designs increased the total-to-total efficiency by 1% and 0.3% respectively relative to a baseline efficiency of already 91%. The first end wall design having the highest efficiency without purge flow shows the highest efficiency drop of 1.2% per injected massflow percent if purge flow is applied. The second end wall design and the baseline case show comparable sensitivities with -0.7%/% and -0.6%/% to purge flow. The reason for the increased sensitivity of the first design is an increased circumferential pressure gradient at the first vane rim compared to the baseline case and the second end wall design. Resulting in the strongest injection jets and therefore in more induced vorticity.
